to not want DH to 'clean' with Zoflora

My husband does his fair share of cleaning, but does it a bit crap. I have largely put up with this as I am aware he is trying, it is just about livable with and I am aware other men are MUCH, MUCH worse than my husband. DH is also aware of this and reminds me.

However, the latest bugbear is that he insists on using Zoflora to 'clean the kitchen' i.e. wiping down surfaces after preparing a meal. Despite my repeated insistence it is a disinfectant, not a cleaning product and should be used after cleaning, if at all.

AIBU to think he should use a cleaning product instead?

People seem to be massively overthinking.

Cleaning = agitation + water + some kind of cleaning agent (which could just be heat ie hot water). It doesn't really matter whether it's a disinfectant or something marketed as cleaning spray. Sure, if you need to be very specific then it might matter but any combination of these things will get the job done! Don't moan if someone doesn't do it exactly the way you would!

Him insisting that he's special for being a man who cleans though HmmHmm

Diluted bleach. I’m a theatre sister and we deep clean with bleach.

pennylane83 · 21/05/2020 18:36

@Ineke Zoflora's website states that its products are safe to use around animals as long as you let the disinfected area dry before letting pets come into contact with it.

There has been a couple of news articles about it.

wildchild554 · 21/05/2020 18:46

my friends a cleaner in a hospital and as I'm struggling to get cleaning products online atm she has advised that zoflora works just as well.

threatmatrix · 21/05/2020 18:49

ReincarnatedDodo
Did you not read her post properly. It is a disinfectant not a cleaning agent. Like in a restaurant you clean then antibacterial it disinfect.

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 21/05/2020 20:19

Be grateful he cleans in the first place. My husband and sons never wipe kitchen surfaces or clean toilet and washbasin after use.

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/05/2020 20:21

I will never, ever be grateful that my husband cleans.

Solina · 21/05/2020 20:36

Meh don't see the problem with this. I use dettol or zoflora etc. most of the time as I tend to prep on cutting boards and cook in frying pans/sauce pans/oven dishes and so on rather than straight on top of the counters.

I use soap to clean them once a week and also before and after I knead and roll out dough. If I did accidentally drop raw meat on them I would then also use soap.

They are perfectly clean and shiny with this effort.

Neverender · 21/05/2020 20:40

Depends. Is he diluting?

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/05/2020 20:44

I only use zoflora undiluted to clean the toilet. I like the residual smell!

Nothankyou0 · 21/05/2020 20:55

I use zoflora (or dettol/other disinfectant etc) to wipe down all my counter tops and sink after cooking. Any crumbs/dirt etc comes off on the cloth with it. I would use a cleaner first IF there was thick grease/oil etc on the counter as zoflora isn’t amazing at removing grease but usually there’s only light dirt that will come off fine.

NWojtanowski · 21/05/2020 21:24

I wouldn't say YABU or YANBU. I would just think that you may be mistaken on what most cleaners do and what a disinfectant does. If a cleaner is used then yes you would need to then disinfect for it to be actually "clean". If you use a disinfectant, like the one your husband uses, you would be done...it actually completes both jobs. The kitchen will LOOK CLEAN and actually BE CLEAN because it is disinfected as well. Sorry to point out that if you have been using just a cleaner you would be the one doing it incorrectly for a kitchen because it would LOOK clean but not actually BE clean because of the lack of disinfectant. Good Luck to you and your family. Flowers

I'm enjoying this thread more than I should.
I love Zoflora, I clean everything with it, diluted in a spray bottle.
Wipe off grease with anti bac wipes from Lidl, then spray the Zoflora around.
Lavender in the bathroom, Twilight Garden or Linen Fresh downstairs.

Few drops of concentrate in the loos. Gorgeous.

I even wipe the windows with it. In the winter, I wipe the radiators with the seasonal special, like mulled wine, and the smell is lovely. Soak a cotton wool ball in some, then hoover it up, it will make your carpets smell fresh and lovely.

When Trump decided that we should inject disinfectant, I was well tempted to shoot up Twilight Garden, but resisted Grin

FelicisNox · 21/05/2020 21:59

He's probably doing it to annoy you so he can get out of cleaning but it's not the end of the world.

Wrenna · 21/05/2020 22:13

I’m super impressed you can buy disinfectants in the UK. I’m in the States (Utah) and haven’t been able to find any kind of disinfectant except bleach for months - and I’ve only been able to find bleach in the last two weeks. I stalk Amazon too without fail everything is unavailable!

Fluffybutter · 21/05/2020 22:14

Zoflora is terrible , yanbu

MissMarks · 21/05/2020 22:18

Wrenna probably afraid people will drink it or inject it 😳

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/05/2020 22:27

Or more worryingly, maybe people have bought it all in order to drink or inject it...

Fred578 · 21/05/2020 22:30

I only use zoflora in the sink with the cloths in - mainly because it makes the house smell nice (as long as you don’t get a weird one. I’m not a fan of the tropical ones)

Abbccc · 21/05/2020 23:15

There really is no need to keep "disinfecting" your home.

Celestine70 · 21/05/2020 23:54

Vile stuff I wouldn't want it on my food surfaces. Very toxic stuff.

Ineke · 22/05/2020 02:47

I had rose scent Zoflora once, lovely, but can't find it anymore.☹️

Apirateslifeforme · 22/05/2020 02:55

You should clean before disinfecting, but if hes doing it, leave him to it, and do it your way (properly) when you do it.
I always get the rage when DH uses a scourer on the side, the glass hob... I cant actually bare to see it so I understand. But I'd prefer the little niggle of him not doing it properly than the bigger niggle that I'm the only one in the house that ever lifts a finger

fidgi · 22/05/2020 09:28

Zoflora is not a degreaser. We have lots of rescue companion animals here, some elderly, & I spend lots of time cleaning! A mixture of Zoflora & Flash multi surface cleaning liquid does the trick. Mix, dilute in a 500ml spray container, squirt onto your surface, leave on for a few seconds, then wipe with microfibre cloth. I launder these at least daily. They lift off all grease, condensation, dust and general yuk very effectively when combined with the Zoflora Flash mixture. Surfaces wiped with clean slightly damp microfibre are left almost dry.
NB never combine bleach or products containing it diluted or not, as you will quite possibly cause an explosion nasty enough to harm sight and lungs.

fidgi · 22/05/2020 09:40

MOI encore, just noticed the comments re Zoflora & pets. My vast experience confirms that pets, in particular cats who like to wash their paws, can get bad excema if you use Zoflora on its own. I got it as well, not that I pick my paws. That's why I would advise spraying your surface, don't put product straight onto cloth, & wipe surface dry.
