to not want DH to 'clean' with Zoflora

PrincessBuggerPants · 20/05/2020 15:43

My husband does his fair share of cleaning, but does it a bit crap. I have largely put up with this as I am aware he is trying, it is just about livable with and I am aware other men are MUCH, MUCH worse than my husband. DH is also aware of this and reminds me.

However, the latest bugbear is that he insists on using Zoflora to 'clean the kitchen' i.e. wiping down surfaces after preparing a meal. Despite my repeated insistence it is a disinfectant, not a cleaning product and should be used after cleaning, if at all.

AIBU to think he should use a cleaning product instead?

The bras don’t, which was the point of that comment. Proper denim jeans can be boiled for a proper, good clean (for example if you hardly ever wash them).

BuffaloCauliflower · 20/05/2020 16:22

Why use disinfectant at all? Overuse is destroying the microbes we have a natural relationship with and it’s making us less healthy. Kids growing up in these over sterilised homes are more likely to develop allergies and non-communicable diseases. We don’t need to live in operating theatres and it does us no good. Just cleaning is fine!

What on Earth are you/people in general doing in your jeans to make them need boiling?

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 20/05/2020 16:26

Doesn't really matter if he uses Zoflora but it does smell a bit overpowering and I would be afraid the smell would taint stuff

FliesandPies · 20/05/2020 16:27

I have started to clean a lot with sodium bicarb and hope that's better for the environment.

However, my attempt to break my addiction to Zoflora Festive Fireside is being sorely tested by the virus!

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 16:30

@SoupDragon I don’t know who you mean with ‘you people’ but some people love to boil things. It does clean cotton very effectively...others never wash their jeans at all.

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 16:31

Oh heh omg my brain is slow today! You/people makes sense.

Jeans are controversial things, apparently! Although I have no strong feelings on the matter.

Yankathebear · 20/05/2020 16:32

Hide it.

Yankathebear · 20/05/2020 16:34

I found my daughter (in her late teens) cleaning the entire bathroom with window cleaner.

I left her to it and made her a cup of tea as a thank you. It was sparkling (bathroom not tea).

monkeyonthetable · 20/05/2020 16:35

I had no idea. But I can't see how disinfectant doesn't clean. I use a hot damp cloth and disinfectant spray to wipe surfaces. That's what I call cleaning, unless a surface is a bit greasy, then I'd use washing up liquid.

How is a good scrub with a cloth and disinfectant until it looks shiny not 'cleaning'? (I genuinely don't get it.)

Cleaning vs disinfecting

This thread is weird. If he is diluting zoflora in water, spraying it onto a surface and then wiping it down thoroughly with a cloth then he is both cleaning and disinfecting and anyone who says he isn't is just bonkers. It will lift normal daily household levels of grease quite happily unless you live in a chip shop.

HasaDigaEebowai · 20/05/2020 16:44

Not that he needs to disinfect of course and so the only question is will the diluted zoflora clean your surfaces. It will.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 20/05/2020 16:45

However, what struck me about your post op, is your husband is 'trying to clean but is a bit crap' . Well, yes, this is a well known ploy to get out of doing things...

I find it’s more often a way of women saying, “he doesn’t do it the same way as me and therefore his technique must be inferior.”

Mulhollandmagoo · 20/05/2020 16:45

I'm with you! I do use it and have done for a long while before coronavirus (I'm a hincher, sorry everyone 😂) but I always use a different cleaning product first and then disinfect once clean

zscaler · 20/05/2020 16:47

I clean the surfaces with diluted zoflora all the time. None of us have died of dysentery yet.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/05/2020 16:48

Why do things need disinfecting once they’re clean though? Unless you’re performing surgery on your surfaces?

Bellesboo2 · 20/05/2020 16:50

Hijacking the thread... However, I use zaflora bouquet on my Hoover filters. Soak them over night, and pop them back in. Smells amazing.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2020 16:51

I don’t know who you mean with ‘you people’

I never said "you people"

IndiaMay · 20/05/2020 16:52

Jesus, who wipes down surfaces endlessly with multiple cleaners. I have a spray bottle made up of diluted zoflora (I love the scents), just spritz the sides, wipe clean with warm dishsoapy water from the sink. Done. Who cares how he does it so long as you arent the one having to do it.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2020 16:52

some people love to boil things. It does clean cotton very effectively.

As does washing At 40deg.

Boil washing is bonkers.

Ninkanink · 20/05/2020 16:53

@SoupDragon see my very next comment Grin

Nottherealslimshady · 20/05/2020 16:55

I do the same as your husband.
My husband thinks I do things about crap. He also gets reminded that if he wants things done his way then he can do them!

Bargainhuntbore · 20/05/2020 16:56

Love, be thankful for a husband who helps. Mine us fucking useless.

LolaSmiles · 20/05/2020 16:58

Don't be grateful for living with a man who happens to do his fair share as an adult in the household.

DH does chores around the house because they need doing and he isn't a man child. He certainly isn't helping me because housework isn't my womanly domain.
