And no change before the 28th. What the hell is Nichola Sturgeon thinking?!

The only time we have broken it is on day 1 when we dashed up to collect DS from Uni. He'd packed overnight, we went up early, wore gloves, took our own food and only left the car to help DS get his stuff into the car and were back at normal lunchtime.

I’m English, living in Scotland and definitely think she’s made the right call. Not usually a fan but I think she’s been really clear and consistent in her approach to this.

SoleBizzz · 18/05/2020 22:18

Scotland are doing it right

Amortentia · 18/05/2020 22:20

Separately from the work trip husband I have another friend who is a pilot and says a large obstacle to their airline flying again just now is not lack of demand but that the airports in *Scotland are not prepared yet to support any preventative measures - ppe, distancing etc

Which means those flying right now are doing so without any special measures in place.

But NS seems immune from any real challenges on her devolved responsibilities. And even less so during this crisis for some reason*

Maybe you're making a more general comment on the FM being held to account but who enters the country by air is the responsibility of the UK gov.

ssd · 18/05/2020 22:37

@WaxOnFeckOff, yes it's shit. My elderly neighbour who was horrible to us for years has her 40 something son over every other day..in and out the house. And my son has been nowhere near.
Pisses me right off, I have to stay inside when he's over as I want to kill them both.

Pleasenodont · 18/05/2020 22:38

It isn’t ridiculous, England’s approach is.

ssd · 18/05/2020 22:38

And yes, she's out clapping every fucking Thursday Angry

TARSCOUT · 18/05/2020 22:41

Scotland here and think shes a bloody idiot.

ssd · 18/05/2020 22:42

Just seen on the news Glasgow Central station is getting ready for lock down easing. Doing it properly, keeping us safe. Not like Johnson, giving the railways and underground no notice that he was easing measures and people crowding on trains.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 22:43

Yes ssd, whilst I don't want to fall out with folks, i have clearly observed and noted and it will colour the relationships I have with people afterwards. I actually agree that some of the activities pose very little extra risk in and of themselves, but it's not really the point. Everyone has a reason as to why they are special and you know that they are not. Yes, some people are finding this harder than others but again, I don't give a shit.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 22:48

We don't go out clapping. DH thinks it's ridiculous given that a lot of staff are quieter than they've ever been and as he works with people all the time, he knows that some are genuinely dedicated and go above and beyond, but the same as any other workplace, some are lazy shites and most are just doing an ok to decent job. Plus they are getting paid, have decent conditions of sick pay, holidays and pension which a lot of folk clapping don't have. I'm sure our neighbours must think we are ignorant though.

Bubblebee7 · 18/05/2020 22:53

Staff are quieter than ever due to the lockdown we will see the real peak once lockdown has lifted.

ssd · 18/05/2020 22:53

I don't clap anymore as I might just wring my neighbours neck.
Any NHS workers I know don't like the clapping, they think why clap us now, we've been working for years. And after I seen those stupid bitches trouping out the house with the thank the NHS sign I just thought fuck it.

Lovely1a2b3c · 18/05/2020 22:57

YABU. Scotland is behind England with its rise in cases.
England should still be on full lockdown.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 22:58

Staff are quieter than ever due to the lockdown

The are quiet because the majority of things have been cancelled, hospitals were emptied of patients, people were put off contacting the NHS when they should have, there are going to be a lot of people dying from things that they might have recovered from had they gone to their GP 2 months ago.

It'll be a great excuse as to why none of the targets are met, given that they weren't meeting them anyway.

Some services should have restarted by now.

Pixxie7 · 18/05/2020 23:04

I think she is doing a good job, if the morbidity and mortality is lower than elsewhere in the uk we will be applauding her stance.

Bubblebee7 · 18/05/2020 23:04

I agree about services should not have been cancelled. When you say targets it’s all so complex but it boils down to money having a patient out of A&E by a certain time it’s not always possibly but not only that you wouldn’t t want your elderly mother been treat based on “targets” would you.

2Rebecca · 18/05/2020 23:06

My Scottish county has had no proven coronavirus cases for 4 days. The point of lockdown was to stop the NHS being overwhelmed. We aren't going to eradicate the virus this year. If we get a recession there will no money to pay for the NHS and it will be austerity again. Time for a planned return to work. Not sure what the logic in banning golf is. It seems a perfect activity for social distancing, just don't open the clubhouse bar.

avroroad · 18/05/2020 23:08

Not sure what the logic in banning golf is.

Not so much the game itself but the manpower involved In maintaining the course and everything else that goes along with it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 23:10

if the morbidity and mortality is lower than elsewhere in the uk we will be applauding her stance.

I don't think it is though now is it? It was initially the case. but I am sure I heard that we now have proportionately more deaths than we should by proportion of the population.

Sadie789 · 18/05/2020 23:12

The recession is not an if or a when, it’s a now. And Scotland’s economy is now on the back foot for the sake of a couple of weeks’ political showboating.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 23:15

Bumblebee - well no, but the A&E target is based on when you get seen, not when you get out. However, targets about being seen by specialists etc are the ones that matter.

The NHS is devolved and it's a place that would suck up money thrown at it without blinking. It's not always about more money and it's also not about people who don't understand about health moving in and trying to run it like a business. But there is a lot of waste and mis-management - just like everywhere.

WhatwouldLangdo · 18/05/2020 23:38

Well at least Scots aren't on the news after having driven 1.5 hours to a beach and giving interviews that they are annoyed at the amount of people who've done the exact same thing! Hmm

And I cannot believe the general lack of resilience in fully grown adults. Yes lockdown is tough but have some perspective. We aren't living under the Khmer Rouge, or some other awful regime/conditions that are far worse than we're experiencing now.
I really dislike using comparisons like that but the self importance of some people is absolutely shocking.

Horehound · 18/05/2020 23:40

I'm in Scotland and I agree with what she's doing.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 23:47

Well, at least the person on the news was officially allowed to drive to the beach. I had a Fb "friend" in Scotland who went for a drive to a beach an hour and a half away for a day out at the weekend. Flk from scotland have been turned back at the border heading to the lakes for "shopping".

Despite what people would like to believe, the Scots (of which I am one) are no better or hold no higher moral stance than anyone else in the UK. And they may indeed be worse.
