And no change before the 28th. What the hell is Nichola Sturgeon thinking?!

I think it’s ridiculous that England isn’t still in full lockdown...

Not that either ever really were. We did "lockdown lite" in Uk and we're reaping the results!

MorganKitten · 18/05/2020 20:52

Keeping people safe, clearly.

Maria53 · 18/05/2020 21:00

I live in Scotland and most of us are glad to be in lockdown. Well - we aren't glad, but we view it as a necessary evil.

Remember we were 2 weeks behind the curve so it is the right decision.

For those PPs calling her 'Nippy' spin a new record why don't you. That was a nasty nickname made up by a man, just another stick to beat a powerful and capable woman with.

Sadie789 · 18/05/2020 21:03

@Maria53 I don’t know about most of us, Maria. I’d say it was more 50/50.

Mascotte · 18/05/2020 21:05

I'm not glad

Maria53 · 18/05/2020 21:21

Ok well based on my family, friends, colleagues and the general sense I get from various platforms, the majority of those people are glad lockdown is not yet lifted.

The facts and the science demonstrates this is the right decision imo. I'm sure it won't be for too much longer.

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 21:29

Be careful of thinking everyone agrees with you when you characterise anyone who doesn't agree as stupid or evil.

That's how Brexit happened.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 21:32

I'll bet most people don't appreciate not being trusted and treated like children to be honest.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 21:33

They might like not having to go to work though I suppose

Mistressiggi · 18/05/2020 21:35

I trust very few people to be sensible without the government telling them to, to be honest.

KindlyFOD · 18/05/2020 21:35

, Be careful of thinking everyone agrees with you when you characterise anyone who doesn't agree as stupid or evil.*

That's how Brexit happened

Also how the indyref didn't happen.

Dead2me · 18/05/2020 21:36

I’m in Scotland and everyone I’ve spoken to on social media is happy we are holding off. It’s only 10 days until we start easing, it’s not the end of the world. Our family and friends living in England are extremely unhappy with what’s happening in England right now. You can’t please everyone

LilQueenie · 18/05/2020 21:37

well its like this every other country that has opened up has had a second wave. the longer we wait the lower the cases meaning less spread when we do open up. We are trying to save lives.

Mascotte · 18/05/2020 21:37

@LilQueenie that's just not true

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 21:38

Yes, Aunt Lydia

Nihiloxica · 18/05/2020 21:40

well its like this every other country that has opened up has had a second wave

That is the opposite of the truth.

It's either a lie, or you are very ignorant of basic facts.

Most of Scotland hasn't even had a first wave FFS.

rwalker · 18/05/2020 21:44

She has the advantage of watching what happens to us first then making a decision
There WILL always be second and third wave another 10 day isn’t going to perform a miracle in Scotland and make cv disappear

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 21:50

It's actually of very little difference to me whether things are eased tomorrow or in a month. I will continue to do what we need to do. We are lucky in that I can work from home and DH is working too as a front line NHS worker. However, I am getting increasingly annoyed and angry at the folk who aren't sticking to the rules. It's not great for peoples mental health to feel that they are "locked down" when they know that others are breaking it to no consequence to themselves but extending the lock down for others.

I know all I should bother about is myself and my household but it's hard to ignore when all you can see out your window is other folk breaking it, people who are under greater risk than I am.

That's what is fucked up.

ssd · 18/05/2020 21:50

The r number is higher up here, that's why we're still on lock down.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 21:53

And ssd, why is the r number higher? cos it's been mishandled and because folk are doing what they want.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/05/2020 21:53

She has the advantage of watching what happens to us first then making a decision

Agree and she is sensibly taking that advantage, but boris also has the advantage of watching what happens in the rest of Europe, but isn't willing to wait to see what happens to other countries ahead of him and is easing too early.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 21:54

Not that we actually have any actual facts that the number is higher though because we've been piss poor about testing so all it is is a finger in the air job.

tabulahrasa · 18/05/2020 21:54

“They might like not having to go to work though I suppose”

I know very few people who’d be going back to work anytime soon, whether we were in step with England or not... they’re all either still working or in industries that are going to be going back last.

ssd · 18/05/2020 21:57

@WaxOnFeckOff, couldn't agree more. I've really stuck to it. Ds1 moved out just 3 weeks before lock down and it was his birthday the other day. We couldn't see him or have him over for dinner. Then that night I seen a bunch of women all together coming out a house covered in 40th posters. And of course, a rainbow and a thank the NHS poster. Fuckwits having pals over for a drink when I couldn't see my 21 Yr old cos were doing the right thing.
Fucking unreal but I guess that's the way it is.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/05/2020 22:05

yep ssd. Friends brother in his 40s is going back and forward to his new girlfriends place while I have an 18 year old spending hours on the phone to his as he understands that he's not allowed to go see her. He's not moaned or asked or sulked. Another friend also couldn't see her daughetr on her 21st, or can't visit with her recently widowed MiL. In the meantime others are doing what the want and then clapping on a Thursday as it that makes it all right. I'm just so angry with it now. Not at the lock down, I can honestly do this standing on my head if others were doing it too.
