There is a lot going on in the North. There are also a lot of issues - when you look at deprivation, parts of the North occupy large parts of the list. There is a reason about the Red Wall and 'left behind'. But there are also a lot of well off people in the North - especially those who have a good salary compared to house prices. I wonder how may people in that group are on MN and posting here
You could say exactly the same about the south, except perhaps the 'Red Wall' and yet you don't get endless northerners starting discussions about how bad the south is compared to the north, seemingly just to start an argument.
Many people in the south will be struggling, especially as housing is so much more expensive, so even people on decent salaries won't be able to buy property near where they work.
There's also deprivation in the south, there was a thread a couple of weeks ago, started by a poster who wanted to move to Jaywick, Essex, which is famously one of the most deprived areas of the country, because she thought that the housing was spectacularly cheap and she could live mortgage free.
To most people outside the South East, Jaywick still looks quite expensive, particularly given the poor standard of construction of the property she was looking at, an ex holiday home not intended for permanent occupancy on an unpaved road and the lack of amenities in the area.
But despite many comments and links to nicer houses in nicer areas that weren't significantly further away from London in terms of how long they took to get there (the poster didn't need to commute, just occaisionally return to London) the OP and many others just couldn't get away from their 'it's nearer London so it must be better' mindset so would rather live in Jaywick than somewhere along the Yorkshire or Lincolnshire coastline. Plus there's the problems of knife crime, shootings and other serious crime in some parts of London.
