I would very curious to see if anyone would have voted differently, or if they had the chance to change their vote now would you?

Thanks for pointing that out Clavinova. Tory policies in relation to migrants have certainly increased the problems in relation to homelessness particularly with regards to asylum seekers.

particularly with regards to asylum seekers

I am a little confused by your link as the first sentence refers to vulnerable people refused asylum in the UK although I agree that they should be a consideration. Most non-UK rough sleepers will be economic migrants - asylum seekers are housed in temporary accommodation?

KenDodd · 22/05/2020 10:19

I see, first line of Tory defence! Blame an immigrant! Grin

Clavinova · 22/05/2020 10:33

KenDodd
France 2018:

"More than 100,000 people applied for asylum in France last year, the highest number in four decades, but 64 per cent of the requests were denied."

"Albanians topped the list, accounting for 6,600 of the total of 100,412 applicants last year.Only 6 per cent were granted protection because the migrants are presumed to be economic in nature."

"In contrast, the acceptance rate was 95 per cent for Syrians, 85 per cent for Afghans and 59 per cent for Sudanese."

Question - what would your policy be regarding the Albanian asylum seekers mentioned above - social housing and benefits?

Soen · 22/05/2020 11:26

Some of the responses on here are batshit. Cognitive dissonance is rife on these boards.

user1471565182 · 23/05/2020 14:53

Are you seriously trying to claim immigration has raised populations by 130-1000% in ten years?

Maybe (and heres a mad idea) shitey right wing austerity carried out here and in ireland was responsible? (as we already know it was)

Soen · 23/05/2020 17:53

Conservative party jumping to Dominic Cummings defense over childcare when he had Covid 19.

One rule for tories and another rule for everyone else. Yes, that's a party we should be proud of 🙄

randomer · 23/05/2020 19:28

Do any of you have a 4 year old and you have both become unwell? How did you deal with it ? Genuinely interested. When I had small chidren and I was crawling about vomiting, I phoned the local Scout leader and begged her to help. I paid for the priviledge.

Soen · 23/05/2020 21:30

Besides the point, randomer. The guy who made the rules for EVERYONE decided to break them himself. He was well enough to drive 250 miles to his parents and it regard their health at all. You sound like Laura Kuennsberg et. al by defending his actions. Which were irresponsible considering this disease is life threatening. Honestly, the fact his are defending him beggars belief. Just goes to show no matter how corrupt these fuckers are, Joe public will stick up for them. Its disgusting, considering they don't give a shit about you.

JimmyGrimble · 23/05/2020 21:35

Yes Soen ... still doffing their caps and wringing their hands, still whining about Momentum plots. It’s pathetic really. And apparently he did it twice. He just doesn’t give a shiny shit.

KenDodd · 23/05/2020 21:38

Cummings has made it very clear he thinks voters are thick (well Leave voters) he's said as much publicly. Why should he care what they think of him.

Soen · 23/05/2020 21:58

Who even is he??? They should just get shut of him and what Boris bumble around when he realises he is out of his depth.

Why anyone would look at Bojo and think he is a respectable person, let alone a politician is beyond me. You wouldn't trust him with crayons, so why have people convinced themselves they trust him? I'm sure normally these are intelligent people in their day to day lives.

Leflic · 23/05/2020 21:58

So bored of this. There’s two parties, both consisting of the middle classes. Splash of Eton on the the right, a Sir on the left.

They are all career politicians, all probably quite nice if you were introduced by friend and most Of them thinking of the long game.

The arguments are nuts, If you don’t like illegal immigration why not provide a British passport to anyone that wants to live here if they demonstrate need? Why make them risk their lives in boats?

Soen · 23/05/2020 22:08

Don't understand this comment. They already 'demonstrate need' by fleeing a war torn country. They still don't get British passports though.

Also I dont think the immigration arguments are exclusively about illegal immigrants. Seemingly anyone who has an impure bloodline (which, let's face it, would be everyone in the land) is deemed as an immigrant.

Soen · 23/05/2020 22:10

And it doesnt matter that theres a splash of etonian on the right, and a sir on the left... what matters is how the people in this country are treated by them. Seemingly we love being fucked over cos we're weak as fuck.

Leflic · 23/05/2020 22:25

0Don't understand this comment. They already 'demonstrate need' by fleeing a war torn country.

Er no they demonstrate they have enough money to pay to get in a boat. Most of the really deserving, the women and children are still stuck in which ever hell hole the men in charge have been waging war in,for however many bloody years.

Soen · 23/05/2020 22:45

So you're saying the men should stay in a war torn country til they have enough monies to get a boat??

Seriously, if you live in a war torn country, I would say you have a pretty urgent need to get out of there asap. Irrespective of how much money you possess. We don't care unless it were to happen here.

Soen · 23/05/2020 22:47

And the 'men in charge' of these countries are because we interfered like we always do.

canigooutyet · 23/05/2020 23:57

@Randomer
Same situations faced by millions on a daily basis.

A lone parent here, most of the time I simply have to get on with it, play for people to watch them, rely on friends or social services would need to intervene.

Thankfully my youngest is more independent, but will still need someone overnight for the next couple of years whilst I'm in a hospital. Thankfully I've always managed to somehow protect them from seeing a lot of that side of it.

When I lived with another adult it was a lot easier and everything just carried on whilst I was otherwise occupied. Workplaces really didn't have a choice when it came to time off for either of us, whilst other plans were put into place.

What can they really say to? - boss cannot make it into work, there's no-one to look after the kids. Yea I know important whatever in 2 hours, but what can I do?

KenDodd · 24/05/2020 10:15

I've just been looking at the numbers on CV in Europe and the UK is a real outlier. We're still getting nearly 3,000 new cases a day, way, way ahead of any other country (not including Russia) . How anyone can think Boris and co have done a good job on this is mind boggling. And yet as I predicted, not a single word of criticism from Tory voters.
USA, Russia, Brazil, UK that's our club. Populist leaders haven't done well on this (although I know their supporters will say they've done brilliantly) seems all they had was a bit of flag waving, racism and nothing of substance to them.

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 10:32

Just to point out that New Zealand has a coalition government with New Zealand First (NZF) - a nationalist and populist party - their leader is the Deputy PM. Australia, Hungary, Austria??

Lweji · 24/05/2020 10:37

Er no they demonstrate they have enough money to pay to get in a boat. Most of the really deserving, the women and children are still stuck in which ever hell hole the men in charge have been waging war in,for however many bloody years.

This statement shows a dire lack of understanding about how refugee and even economic migration works.

Women and children aren't "left behind". It's an incredibly difficult journey for the men, let alone children. Many die. Strong fit men die. Are taken into slavery. Imagine women and children.
Women and children are "left" usually in refugee camps, where the men can reach them and send out for them.
Many migrants and refugees don't pay in advance. Or their families raise the money for them to go. Those that don't pay, end up owing money to the traffickers. And have to work to pay for it when they reach their destination.

You may argue not all. Well, as for everything.

Men are also more than not the first killed in war situations. Because they are considered stronger and more capable of offering resistance.

I'm sure you'll be joining the chorus of "and then they bring all their families" too, without realising how this contradicts your statement above.

KenDodd · 24/05/2020 17:02

Yes I did hear that there was very strong opposition from the populists JA has to share power with over her handling of CV. This make her achievements even more notable. Well done her. This is unlike Boris Johnson of course who doesn't have to share power with anyone and in fact has purged the Tory party of anyone who dares speak truth to power and is not 100% on board with his thinking. The handling of CV is completely down to BJ and his government, he had to make no compromises and could take the exact path he wanted to.

Clavinova · 24/05/2020 17:11

Next time we are going to copy South Korea -

"South Korea is also enforcing a law that grants the government wide authority to access data: CCTV footage, GPS tracking data from phones and cars, credit card transactions, immigration entry information, and other personal details of people confirmed to have an infectious disease."

KenDodd · 24/05/2020 17:18

Quite! I wouldn't trust Cummings mate, who got a nice fat contract to produce the tracing app, with my data. Especially given their track record on data use and Cummings contempt of the law and Boris's record for lying.
