Boris has said his being overweight contributed to his problems with Covid-19.
Stories this morning suggest he will wage war on fat...

What type of help do you think might be suggested?

Have you decided to lose weight due to Covid-19 worries?

YABU - no I will not lose weight due to Covid worries
YANBU - I will lose weight due to Covid worries

I’m 5ft 5 and 10st(5lb up) and a size 10/12 but my 10s are pulling tighter so that’s my trigger to shift some weight. I always fluctuate between 9st 7 and 10st. I’d have to be under 9 to be an 8 and that would only be my waist as I have boobs and bum.

Thighmageddon · 17/05/2020 18:08

I'm Apple shaped at the moment.

When I'm a normal, healthy weight I'm just straight up and down, no defined waist.

Now I'm overweight and just nudging over in to the obese category again thanks to Covid and being stuck at home, the7lbs I've regained of the two stone I'd lost pre-Covid, has all gone straight back on to my mid section.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 18:11

@Thighmageddon I just love your user name!

randomer · 17/05/2020 18:13

Does it make you feel good sneering at fat people (well women)

Needmoresleep · 17/05/2020 18:15

i think girls are generally less physically active

Part is peer pressure. DD was flabbergasted when she got to University and other girls and some of the more laddish boys would assume she and her friends were lesbian simply because they played sport. And that, unlike in sixth form, being called a lesbian was seen as an insult.

Quite weird. And supposedly educated middle class girls as well.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 18:21

The only proper sneering posts here came from you and couple of others. None against obese (women? Like why specify).

Discussing facts isn't sneering

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 18:22

I'm a healthy BMI but have also lost my waist. I'm 49 and perimenopausal. My shape has DEFINITELY changed to an apple. I was very hourglass when I was younger (before my 3rd child in my late 30s).

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 18:23

@Needmoresleep that's interesting and kind of where I was going. It's a shame though that in 2020 we still have gender pressure differences which actually may affect someone's basic physical fitness.

lyrtasdoef · 17/05/2020 18:37

I'd say if would like to lose weight, mainly because it is good for health in general not just the COVID...

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 17/05/2020 22:59

Everyone who has struggles with weight or should I say Fat loss, should read orlisten to The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. It will literally change your life. So many studies, so many failed studies on counting calories and still this is what we preach. You will have to pick your jaw off the floor so many times when you read this book. Calories in, calories out fails because obesity is a hormone disorder not lack of will. Control your hormones, control your weight. What you eat controls your hunger and if you store or release fat. The whole book is on YT. It's the one book out of the many I read that truly made a difference to how I understand, how my body works. Boris should read it. Then we should change our outdated 50 year old nutrition recommendations. Advice that causes obesity, type 2 diabetes (reversible) and made absolutely no difference to cardiac arrest incidences. Removing fat from out diets and demonising it has caused so many problems, yet people blindly follow this advice and wonder why they can't lose weight. Time to take you loyal trust of government messages and open your mind. I've just finished reading it for the second time. I can't recommend it enough.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 09:13

Way too many doctors and their books flunked around AIBU lately👀

GinDaddyRedux · 18/05/2020 09:15

@omgThereAreNoPlanesAbout

The previous poster who mentioned Dr Fung's book is trying to help people with (her) comment.

What are you trying to do with yours?

BIWI · 18/05/2020 09:29

Quite right @GinDaddyReflux!

And I totally agree with the points being made by @QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep. That's a great book, and one which is based on a huge amount of research.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 18/05/2020 09:31

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow

Agree.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 09:41

Make people think before they go and get into another fad.
Intermittent fasting can work for some, but I always find it suspicious when there is sudden inflax of "Dr this and that completely discredited widely accepted and well researched facts" and they forget to mention potential risks like ending up with eating disorders (which tbf can happen with any diet), commonly mentioned sleep issues, and more.

Just an FYI. It IS about restricting calories🤷🏻

Just look at this Diet Doctor's website, it uses "if done right", "under medical supervision".
Furthermore, it also explains that it's recommended to follow low carb diet and don't binge on your eating hours. The while thing simply reduces your calorie intake by letting you eat only at certain times and certain things.

So the only difference between cal counting and intermittent fasting is that the former ask what and how much, ehile the latter asks what and when.

I am not saying it doesn't work, it does for some, but what I have a problem with is people going around telling people that "Calories in, calories out fails" and that we simply must read this and that doctor's book to understand we have been lied to is wrong.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 09:42

It's like that other one who had some revelation after reading some DR's book and now recommended 800 cal a day diet on aibu🤷🏻

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 09:43

*whole, not while

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 09:44

God, there is more typoes than I realised. Sorry

Elmerrrrrrrr · 18/05/2020 09:44

All diets work due to calorie deficit. Maybe low carbing/IF/slimming world etc make it easier to lose weight for some (I was pretty miserable on all 3) but the reason for that is calorie deficit. And yes I have read all the books. Been there, done that, got the t shirt.

PhoneLock · 18/05/2020 09:51

So the only difference between cal counting and intermittent fasting is that the former ask what and how much, ehile the latter asks what and when

I agree. There is no magic in intermittent fasting. My husband became overweight while working away from home staying in hotels, that was despite only eating within an eight hour window.

He lost the weight by only eating every other day, drastically reducing his calorie intake.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 09:57

Yup.
The people going on about the magic of IF often forget to mention that it says it's effective in combination with healthy lifestyle, no snacking and low carb.
ANYTHING is effective in combination with healthy lifestyle, no snacking and lower carb🤷🏻
Bar the carb it's actually the disclaimer on diet pills btw.

Again. I am not saying it doesn't work. What I am saying is that it's just another diet based on cal in, cal out.

saints2020 · 18/05/2020 10:08

Cycling or walking more, not going short journeys by car.

Mr Johnson used to be known for cycling when London Mayor and indeed probably right up until he became Prime Minister. So if he was able to cycle again, this could help him. Best achieved by his resigning as Prime Minister, both helping him and the country.

0DETTE · 18/05/2020 10:33

I also agree with @QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep.

Dr Fung is an endocrinologist who is highly respected in his field and has done years of research. Id believe him over some randomer on the internet wittering on about “ just eat less, you are all just greedy and lazy with no willpower “.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 18/05/2020 10:41

But intermittent fasting IS about eating less, moving more and having strong will powerConfused
It's a calorie deficit with a twist, that's all.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 18/05/2020 11:01

just eat less, you are all just greedy and lazy with no willpower

That isn't what I think, I think there are a myriad of reasons behind overeating which all need dealing with.

But I do not agree with diets. I think they promote disordered eating. That is based on my time as an eating disorder peer supporter.
