Boris has said his being overweight contributed to his problems with Covid-19.
Stories this morning suggest he will wage war on fat...

What type of help do you think might be suggested?

Have you decided to lose weight due to Covid-19 worries?

YABU - no I will not lose weight due to Covid worries

@MarriedToABellend

3 hours of exercise a day is a lot! do you have a lot of muscle ? Are you a body builder ? Because the BMI charts don’t work for people like that.

I’m 9 stone - a whole stone lighter that you used to be AND 5 inches taller and I’m not a size 8 in clothes, more like a 19. So I don’t see how you could be 10 stone and under 5ft tall and be a size 8, unless you have a huge amount of muscle and very low body fat.

What are you eating on a typical day ?

Yanbu

0DETTE · 17/05/2020 14:59

more like a 10 !

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 15:00

@Xenia yes but it applies to a lot of school aged girls, basically girls aged about 13 and beyond.

When it comes to children the biggest thing that needs tackling are parents

If the government want us to lose weight then the first thing they need to do is fund families properly, stop the two child limit on benefits so that any size family can afford to shop well & buy healthy cuts of meat & a good selection of fruit & veg instead of having to live out of cheap shops & buy poor quality food.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 15:15

@Wolfgirrl i think girls are generally less physically active. I know now people will come and say "mine is active" but think about it. Since childhood. Boys go and play footie in a park or in a garden (as now seen in gazillion threads) meanwhile girls will play what... Dolls? Make up? If I think back to my childhood it was very similar too. Yes, there are obviously clubs like dancing lessons etc, but do girls just get up, grab a ball and bugger of somewhere and spend afternoon playing just because? Most young ones I see around on bikes out and about are boys. I would say 90%.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 15:25

Since I mentioned activity, I want to add here taht I am also incredibly pissed off with the fact that as a woman if I want to exercise, I am mainly offered cardio, aerobics and similar, meanwhile as a man, I would be told to firm up with weights. You can even see it on adverts what's aimed at who. To that I say "Fuck it!". I am a woman and I should be encouraged to firm up and build strength too😑
Still angry at how our PE was run "Ok we will do push ups, you boys do push up like this and girls will do on their knees". I actually still refer to it as girl's push up🤷🏻 They stole massive upper body strength from us!

With women I also find the meals especially outside of the home are designed for men it was the main thing I noticed in my twenties that my weight was always lower when I was single.

When I've eaten what I want, I just swap plates with DH or ask for a doggy bag.

I gave up with PTs because I couldn't find one willing to push me hard enough.

My gym is all to happy to push heavy weights for women. I can deadlift more than double my body weight. I think it helps if you aren't bothered about training with men though.

"I am aghast to hear of people with their families in one room. Cooking healthily and ensuring a good intake becomes horrendous at that point

Some of them are the care workers being clapped for every Thursday night. They cant eat applause.

megletthesecond · 17/05/2020 15:55

wolf you have a point about younger women's waists. I'm 46 and with 2 DC's, peri menopause, my waist shouldn't be smaller than a twenty-somethings.

Alsohuman · 17/05/2020 16:02

I have also noticed that women tend to put weight on round the middle now and lose their waists, rather than putting it on their bums/boobs where you would expect it. It's more of a male pattern weight gain

Depends on the age of the woman. Pre menopause I was a classic hourglass, now I’m an apple. All that lovely oestrogen has gone 😢

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 16:11

@alsohuman totally agree that childbirth and menopause can affect weight gain and distribution, but I really do see a lot of 13-25 year olds with apple shaped figures, a lot of weight around the middle. Maybe it's just where I live!

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 16:20

It's actually one thing which struck me when I came to UK. Lots of women, younger like me, had belly, but very slim legs and arms. Is it possible it's actually UK physique? Like different ethnicities and groups store fat differently? I am slavic. I was always told we have slim waists and big arses. Most of us indeed did🤔

TheLadyAnneNeville · 17/05/2020 16:42

My go insists that menopause does not affect women’s weight. My shape has totally changed. Was a typical pear with a nice waist (if a little weighty on the bottom half). Now, I’m like a bloody cylinder. Same...all the way down. And it WILL not shift.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/05/2020 16:50

My dm didn’t gain any weight at menopause but she had HRT, I wonder how keen they are to prescribe HRT now?.

Tbh an instagram influencer has as much chance at sorting the mess that is the British lifestyle out as a government. Especially if they write shopping lists, easy recipes, easy to fit in exercises.

dayslikethese1 · 17/05/2020 16:51

I have seen many "fat activists" say that even making a link between obesity and ill health is an act of fat shaming. Maybe we could talk about it more in terms of the general health benefits of good nutrition.

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 16:57

@dayslikethese1 I think everyone knows about the benefits of good nutrition. Whether they act upon it is another matter.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 17/05/2020 16:57

Quite frankly these people can and should go fuck themselves. This is doing favour to no one. Intelligence wise I am putting them into dumbass group together with "abortion is murder" and "make america white, sorry, great again".

Wolfgirrl · 17/05/2020 16:58

Coincidentally I have just seen the photo of Jonathan Ross's daughters in the news - that is what I mean by Apple shaped.

Alsohuman · 17/05/2020 17:15

I didn’t gain weight either but it redistributed. I used to have a waist. Now I don’t.

GinDaddyRedux · 17/05/2020 17:32

@Wolfgirrl

It's not just you. In London and the South East where I am, I see it daily.

Before anyone replies by saying I am a weirdo for looking, I'm not "looking for it" to see it.

It's inescapable. You can just see it around you. The consequences of a "fuck it" society, easy access to processed foods, no self-control, no playing outdoors or doing sport, etc.
