To think farrow and ball isn't the best paint? What's the best

cultkid · 14/05/2020 10:35

I have used them for years but recently feel that their paints haven't had a truly through through pigment
I use their more hard wearing paint but haven't been amazed

I want a dusty old fashioned pink bedroom and want to paint it

Any tips?

Or is farrow and ball the best?

Following! I was about to trade up from deluxe, but if it’s not what it was I won’t bother.

Just been caught out buying GHD straighteners. Used to be great, now worse than the cheapie Argos ones.

weepingwillow22 · 14/05/2020 10:37

Little Greene is generally better quality than f&b

Winnipegdreamer · 14/05/2020 10:39

OH runs a decorating business and hates painting with F&B.

He’s had great colour matches with johnstones. Most visitors aren’t going to be swanning around with a f&b swatch to compare either way.

TeddyIsaHe · 14/05/2020 10:42

Little Greene is good, but pricey.

Just never, ever Valspar.

277xo · 14/05/2020 10:43

Mylands is very good.

MissBuncle · 14/05/2020 10:43

Mylands of London is fab. Same price point as F&B but much better coverage.

lidoshuffle · 14/05/2020 10:43

Another vote for Little Green. It seems to have loads of pigment in it so even the 'boring' colours are very rich.

NoClarification · 14/05/2020 10:46

Another vote for Little Greene. Massively hard-wearing and beautiful rich, matte colours. F&b is shit and the pigments are weak.

Rebelwithallthecause · 14/05/2020 10:46

DH and I work in interiors and most jobs are now done in Zoffany

Little greene is still very good

Farrow and ball still better than Dulux Or crown by a long way

cultkid · 14/05/2020 10:47

I bloody love Mumsnet
I'm off to look at Mylands, Johnson's & Little Green

I knew it was a hype that F&B shite

We’re also using a lot more natural healthy paints like Clay paint

Perfect if you have an old house made of stone or with like mortar that can’t have modern paints

cultkid · 14/05/2020 10:48

Never heard of Zoffany!
Going to look at that too

Also came on to say Little Greene! Good quality and I find it (gently) washable, unlike my F&B, which either stays stained or worse, you find half the paint comes off on your wet cloth and leaves a big smudge.

If you have small DCs though, and especially if you're going for a pale white/grey type colour vs a dramatic tone, I'd still recommend getting a colour match Dulux Diamond Matt over everything, the colours are slightly less rich but it is cheaper and absolutely bombproof!!

Movinghouseatlast · 14/05/2020 10:49

I don't think its hype. I love the depth of colour and the finish of F and B.

I have had it colour matched and it just isn't the same.

Rebelwithallthecause · 14/05/2020 10:50

What do we think of this one?

Off topic I know. But my first GHDs lasted 10 years, when they finally gave up the ghost I bought GHD again and am perfectly happy with them.

cultkid · 14/05/2020 10:52

@Rebelwithallthecause

Our house is 1930s so I don't have stone walls but this is actually very relevant for my relatives so thanks for this

Interesting point about more natural paints
I worry about chemicals in general in my life

Rebelwithallthecause · 14/05/2020 10:53

Love it! I was going to paint the exterior of mh house something very similar

LaurieFairyCake · 14/05/2020 10:53

I love little greene paint

I have a really bright blue (a bit like the deep Mumsnet colour on the app) painted on 3 walls over white and it only needed one coat!

Rebelwithallthecause · 14/05/2020 10:54

If you’re ever near Amersham there is a paint supplier there that specialises in natural clay paints.
If your relatives ever need them.

We use it in an area of our 1900’s house that doesn’t have a damp course and it’s saved us wasting thousands on those chemical injection treatments that some people get pressured into doing

Buggedandconfused · 14/05/2020 10:56

Johnstone’s do a hard wearing wall paint, scrubbable and match the F&B colours exactly. It’s brilliant.

horrayhenry · 14/05/2020 10:57

We used Mylands and it was fantastic. Went to Brewers and had it colour matched to F&B peignoir

horrayhenry · 14/05/2020 10:57

Roughly the same price as F&B too

BovrilonToast · 14/05/2020 10:58

I don’t think it’s hype either. You may get the colour to match but the beauty of F&B is how it reacts in different lights.

My sitting room is painted in Dix Blue. At the moment it’s sunny and the walls look green, when the sun moves round the house it changes to a blue green colour. I love it. You just don’t get that with colour matched paints.
