The new slogan - Stay Alert....

Alert to what? Is the virus going to break into our homes?
Listen out for someone coughing then run a mile from them.

What on earth does Stay alert actually mean?

At least Stay home made sense stay alert means nothing at all or AIBU?

To me it means thank goodness I don’t live in England and that we have a leader who knows what she’s talking about!
Same goes for the Welsh First Minister too.

Reallymissthegym · 10/05/2020 12:19

I’m glad Wales is still stay home at least that’s to the point! Why only England has changed theirs when they have the most cases 🤷‍♀️

GetUpAgain · 10/05/2020 12:20

Well good for you I hope you enjoy snogging your poster of Dominic Raab.😂😂😂😂😂😂

DGRossetti · 10/05/2020 12:20

It makes me think of the Lert thing, was it from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or just similar sort of culture/humour?

That was DON'T PANIC which is next weeks soundbite.

Xenia · 10/05/2020 12:20

Possibly it means do not wear a mask otherwise you will be lulled into a false sense of security.

GetUpAgain · 10/05/2020 12:21

That was DON'T PANIC which is next weeks soundbite.

Smile Phew, still got time to wash my dressing gown and towel then.

GrimmsFairytales · 10/05/2020 12:24

That was DON'T PANIC which is next weeks soundbite.

Nah, it will be Stay Calm. Got to make the most out of the existing signs. Grin

DGRossetti · 10/05/2020 12:25

Phew, still got time to wash my dressing gown and towel then.

And stock up on Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters.

I did pop a babel fish in, hoping to make sense of Boris, but he sounded exactly the same ...

Celan · 10/05/2020 12:26

Dropping “Stay home” will mean that the stupid people think they no longer need to stay home. It’s dangerous to change it. It needs to be simple for the stupid to understand. The government are idiots

@MadameMeursault I personally think it's stupid to stay at home when you don't need to. I think it's stupid to scream 'murderer' at people who leave their houses.

It's a slightly sweeping - and possibly stupid - statement to suggest that anyone who breaks the lockdown (which is in itself stupid) is "stupid".

Oliversmumsarmy · 10/05/2020 12:26

To me it means to be aware that you are not coming closer than 2metres to people.

That if you are wearing a mask or gloves you use them correctly.

So far I have seen someone take a glove off and hold it in their mouth whilst trying to get notes out of her purse at the supermarket check out. People taking their mask off to cough.
People pulling their mask off their face then dragging the same hand all over their face

And the internet sensation of the woman who cut a hole in her mask so she could breathe.

I don’t wear masks or gloves they seem to lull the wearer into a false sense of security

Cantata · 10/05/2020 12:27

Um, I think it means Boris wants as many of us back to work as will go, so we can die in service of the economy

Well if I can't go back to work soon, I will die due to having no income. I'll take my chances with work, thanks.

Stopmenow123 · 10/05/2020 12:28

@Grumpiestoldwoman

Don't forget there's a virus.

Wash your hands often. Try not to touch your face. Stay home if you have symptoms or anyone in your household has symptoms. Limit unecessary contact with people outside of your household and observe social distancing.

It's not hard.

sirfredfredgeorge · 10/05/2020 12:29

The big thing for me, is that it's got rid of the horrendous "protect the NHS" which has discouraged so many people from seeking medical help that it will also kill thousands. Any slogan is better than the previous harmful one, however useless it is - but then slogans are generally useless, but they can be harmful.

Luckingfovely · 10/05/2020 12:32

It means Boris is an utter twunt.

campion · 10/05/2020 12:36

And after Stay Calm GrimmsFairytales will it be Carry On?
Oh wait - that's not going to work.

BlueBrian · 10/05/2020 12:36

Nothings actually changed, it's just a pointless slogan.

It means: we're not going to tell you to stay at home anymore but then we're going to act all surprised when you don't stay at home, and all bemused and sorrowful when there's a socking great spike in infections in a fortnight.

blondehalo · 10/05/2020 12:38

Quite obviously it means develop the ability to see microscopic viruses.

Preferably whilst clapping on a Thursday and dancing in a conga line.

Scarlettpixie · 10/05/2020 12:42

There is no need for them to fuck about with the message. Stay at home means well stay at hime unless you are doing one of the things you are allowed to do. You can extend the list without changing the message. I have no idea what stay alert means,. Idiots,

GrumpiestOldWoman · 10/05/2020 12:42

It's not hard @stopmenow123

Eleventy billion threads so far says otherwise Grin

MrsPerks · 10/05/2020 12:43

Why not: keep your distance, wash your hands?

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 10/05/2020 12:43

Maybe also alert that someone opened Jumanji this year and other things are coming soon

Ricekrispie22 · 10/05/2020 12:44

JK Rowling tweeted: “Is Coronavirus sneaking around in a fake moustache and glasses? If we drop our guard, will it slip us a Micky Finn? What the hell is ‘stay alert’ supposed to mean?”

Dr Xand van Tulleken: "6:22 on Sunday morning. I’m alert. Are you?"

Sandybval · 10/05/2020 12:45

Stay alert when out and about in regards to social distancing
Stay alert if you have symptoms and act appropriately
Stay alert against fake news, and keep up to date with official sources
Stay alert regarding your hygiene

It's only a slogan, it's the front of more comprehensive guidance, I think it's okay.
