How many of you have broken lockdown rules?

I'm just wondering. I thought the vast majority had stuck to it but seeing more threads and hearing more stories, it seems there is a lot of people still seeing close family.

Anyway, I'm in the Channel Isles. Still in lockdown but slightly easing.

I'm not interested in shopping, garden centres or more exercise. I'm not even interested in socialising or catching up with friends.
I just want to see my mum.

I think it's badly affecting her mental health now as she was depressive anyway, and my DS is struggling having not seen her for 2 months.

So, I'm just wondering, have any of you still been seeing close family? Or were you sticking to it and now given up and started visiting? Or are you encouraging to stick firmly to it for as long as possible?

I've been a firm sticker to the rules but now starting to feel the negatives are outweighing the positives but still completely paranoid.

Well, we’ve only left the house for exercise and to go to the village shop. DH drove the car about three miles last week to turn it over, but that was round backroads and he only passed one other road. I’ve not left our village and it’s surrounds since this kicked off.

The one thing we have been flexible on, though, is the amount of time spent exercising, but then again, we were only given guidance and not rules on that. We live rurally, so today we walked for nearly three hours. We only passed about four other groups (individuals and families) in that time, so it’s probably equivalent to just a few minutes in a city.

Phifedean123 · 09/05/2020 20:09

I think really only once. I went for a social distanced walk with my mum whose mental health was shot and she really needed some help.
Other than that I've stuck to it and what I am allowed to do.
Shops every few days (no car)
Walk once a day with toddler
Carer for my dad so help him with shopping and other stuff (have a carers letter in my bag which allows me key worker status to show police if I get stopped)

isabellerossignol · 09/05/2020 20:10

This is misleading too. We don't know how many have it, but we do know plenty have it without showing significant symptoms.

I understand that, but the numbers diagnosed where I live are so low that even if the 'real' numbers were ten times that, or twenty times that, or even fifty times higher, the overall numbers would still be so low, as a proportion of the population, that the chances of actually catching the virus from some random person in the queue at the petrol station or the supermarket is still incredibly low. Two months into this pandemic and I still haven't even heard of anyone that I know, or even any friends of friends of friends, having caught it.

I haven't said that we should ignore the rules, just that I don't think we should be worrying ourselves sick where I live. Whilst recognising that in other areas there are huge numbers of people infected.

luckylavender · 09/05/2020 20:10

@Elmerrrrrrrr - I'm very surprised that as a former healthcare professional that you take this attitude. Of course smoking etc is not good for you & everyone should give up. But noone's perfect & it's an individual decision. In this instance our actions have an impact on everyone & I find it really selfish & frightening. We've all given up so much, and there are plenty of instances on here where exceptions have been made for very good reasons. Not just because they felt like it. We all feel like it. Countries who have overcome this threat have had much much stricter lockdowns than us.

roking · 09/05/2020 20:11

I suppose Myself and DF break it by walking the dog more than once a day. He's a very big dog tho, and he needs out.

We don't go together, one of us will take him for a walk in the morning, afternoon and then at night. We stick to social distancing when out, crossing the road to avoid people etc

He has far to much energy to only be out once a day, in normal circumstances he is out 5 times, so we have cut down but still need to take him out nite than once

I also broke it yesterday as my grandmas dog was killed by another dog 😢😢 she rang me hysterical, I couldn't make her out on the phone and didn't know what had happened so I went straight round there. She only lives round the corner

BelfryBat · 09/05/2020 20:12

I've stuck to the rules. Since I live on my own and haven't got close family, it's easy from that point of view, but it's very depressing and isolating. It pisses me off no end to see people in the park not distancing.

Menora · 09/05/2020 20:12

It is not just hospital discharges causing infections - a lot of care home residents are being refused admission in the first place as it is. Where I am it is virtually impossible to get anyone admitted from a care home. Staff bringing it to the care home and some discharges from acute services are the combination of issues.

It is true it is currently like a hospital acquired infection now, with most patients admitted catching it but also the staff are catching and spreading it

Elmerrrrrrrr · 09/05/2020 20:12

- I'm very surprised that as a former healthcare professional that you take this attitude.

I'm a MENTAL health care professional and domestic violence advocate. Those with mental health issues and victims of domestic violence are collateral damage in all of this.

lljkk · 09/05/2020 20:14

" I suppose you won't want a ventilator then"

Where do I sign? Honestly, bring it on. If I could have the freedoms back that I want, I'd exchange that. Assuming you mean only denial of ventilator with covid rather than denial of all NHS treatment ever again -- I think denial-forever-more is what the person really thinks. MNers like to be spiteful so probably the meanest scenario conceivable.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 09/05/2020 20:17

Those with mental health issues and victims of domestic violence are collateral damage in all of this.

Don't waste your breath. If I learned anything from this type of threads/posters is that death and harm from anything that isn't COVID is acceptable collateral damage. Oh and that people should just grow up, get over themselves and have more moral fibre.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 09/05/2020 20:17

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock

I know sadly. Only covid deaths matter at the moment.

Menora · 09/05/2020 20:18

@Elmerrrrrrrr

I have no opinions on who should get a ventilator and never expressed this

But you do not have the right to complain about how long lockdown is, why it’s so hard for you more than anyone else, or why your MH is more important than someone else’s

If you are elderly with comorbidities you likely won’t be taken to hospital in the first place. I spent all day yesterday trying to get someone to see an elderly man at home who needs to be assessed.

Beachcomber74 · 09/05/2020 20:18

I take parents supplies and chat for a while in their garden. It lifts our spirits!

Elmerrrrrrrr · 09/05/2020 20:18

But you do not have the right to complain about how long lockdown is, why it’s so hard for you more than anyone else, or why your MH is more important than someone else’s

Except I haven't.

Menora · 09/05/2020 20:19

You don’t know your areas infection numbers. No one does
You only know who had symptoms and got a test. That’s all you actually know

luckylavender · 09/05/2020 20:22

@Elmerrrrrrrr - yes I'm aware of what you said. I'm just surprised that any health care professional should be so casual & dismissive.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 09/05/2020 20:24

luckylavender

What about those I work with who are suffering, or do only covid patients count? Why are you so flippant and dismissive?

Menora · 09/05/2020 20:26

@Elmerrrrrrrr

I don’t really know what the point of your contribution is to be honest. What is the point you want to make? We understand why people are breaking the rules, but it is frustrating.

It is an oxymoron of sorts to break the rules as people are struggling due to lockdown, therefore possibly contributing to the extension of a longer lockdown

Doingmybest4u · 09/05/2020 20:27

I’ve been out twice a day for the last couple of weeks - around the block with two children (only way the baby will sleep) - we walk in the road and I do everything possible to stay away from people. We have also exercised in the local woods and saw another family whose 3 Year old wasn’t good at distancing (my daughter is good and we left as quickly as we could).

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 20:28

There's not going to be extended lockdown, it's unsustainable. People breaking the 'rules' aren't going to change that.

Elmerrrrrrrr · 09/05/2020 20:28

I don’t really know what the point of your contribution is to be honest.

I was answering the OP who asked who had broken lockdown rules, sorry I wasn't aware it was necessary to make a deep and meaningful contribution in order to be permitted to post.

Rosebel · 09/05/2020 20:29

No. We saw the neighbours for drinks yesterday but stayed 2 metres apart and didn't share any drink or food. So not sure if that counts as breaking the rules but don't think so.
We are going over to my parents next week to pick up baby stuff but we either won't see them at all or will just say hello through the window. It's horrible though. Miss my parents a lot.

Menora · 09/05/2020 20:29

Who is saying only COVID patients count? Where is this?

I want to see all support services functioning as they should do, physical health or mental health. But by breaking the bloody rules it’s contributing to the spread of infection. We all know this

TheCanyon · 09/05/2020 20:29

Lockdown has been piss easy for me, I LOVE staying home in my jammies, we go 2-3 months without seeing my dps and we speak daily on fb so no different really.

I broke the rules today I guess, came into close contact with the old boy nextdoor. His hearing aid battery has ran out, so I wanted to replace it. Lifes shit enough for them not getting to see their family (both dds and gdd are nurses), being able to chat to the neighbours keeps him going so I don't feel in the least bit sorry.

luckylavender · 09/05/2020 20:30

@Elmerrrrrrrr - nobody said that. It's shit for all of us. But it's not going to end anytime soon if we all think we're exceptions. It's called Stay at home for a reason, not for fun.
