How many of you have broken lockdown rules?

I'm just wondering. I thought the vast majority had stuck to it but seeing more threads and hearing more stories, it seems there is a lot of people still seeing close family.

Anyway, I'm in the Channel Isles. Still in lockdown but slightly easing.

I'm not interested in shopping, garden centres or more exercise. I'm not even interested in socialising or catching up with friends.
I just want to see my mum.

I think it's badly affecting her mental health now as she was depressive anyway, and my DS is struggling having not seen her for 2 months.

So, I'm just wondering, have any of you still been seeing close family? Or were you sticking to it and now given up and started visiting? Or are you encouraging to stick firmly to it for as long as possible?

I've been a firm sticker to the rules but now starting to feel the negatives are outweighing the positives but still completely paranoid.

Have stuck to it. I have dropped things off to my parents and in laws but it's been a case of put by door, knock and wait at end of path. We may chat for 5 mins from a distance but that's it. Haven't been out otherwise.

Jupiters · 09/05/2020 17:30

I'm not sure many people are gonna put their head above the parapet for this one on here. The other day someone was accusing people of being murderers if they broke lockdown in anyway.

TroysMammy · 09/05/2020 17:31

I fraternized with neighbours and family on Thursday night. My kitten had been missing since Monday and we located and rescued him from a shed after he had jumped up and fell through the flimsy plastic roof and got trapped inside for 3 nights. Do I care? No I don't.

kate1800 · 09/05/2020 17:32

I admit that I've met up with my dp for a walk and did not stick to social distancing rules with him

SummerHouse · 09/05/2020 17:33

Similar position here with my mum. I actually offered to go see her and sit at a distance in her garden but she said no. But I would have broken the rules. Although there's many caveats in the rules including mental health so technically you could go see her justifiably.

meow1989 · 09/05/2020 17:35

We've stuck to it pretty religiously. It's hard but it's become normal now. I am actually a bit worried about relaxing of rules even though it means I can see my family again

CandleWickStick · 09/05/2020 17:35

I broke them today.

I've been at my dad's all day. His dog is dying, he's had her since I was about 10 (I lived with him growing up so she's very much my dog too).

She has days if that I think and he's really struggling with it, she's been his best friend for years now.

So yeah I went and spent the day with my dad and my dog because I wanted her to have some family round her and for my dad not to have to deal with it alone as it's really distressing.

Neighbours probably judged as I pulled up on the drive but I don't care.

Ps. My dad isn't in a vulnerable category.

Whose rules? Everyone seems to have a bloody different interpretation of what's essential/reasonable/whatever.

superstressy · 09/05/2020 17:38

My DD goes to my mums house a few days a week. I need to or I fail my degree.

TheGreatWave · 09/05/2020 17:38

The actual rules, no I haven't. The made up rules, yes probably.

But I don't have any friends and my family live miles away. My MIL doesn't want to see us, so DH has been doing non contact drop offs. I went once to sort out her non working stair lift.

mangocoveredlamb · 09/05/2020 17:39

We broke it today. Moo came down and sat in a shady spot in the garden in a pen with a 2m radius from her while the children played in the paddling pool. She needed it.

AllieAct · 09/05/2020 17:40

We have stuck to the rules (only leaving the house for supermarket, exercise or health reasons; not seeing friends or family; not going to work as we can work from home).

Our family and friends are mainly really nearby but a lot are medics or work in jobs where they are exposed so it was easy for us to choose not to break the rules as it’s felt too risky.

PhilCornwall1 · 09/05/2020 17:40

I'm not sure many people are gonna put their head above the parapet for this one on here.

Well I will, yes multiple times and I should be shielding. It's unworkable, so I won't and I'm not.

my2bundles · 09/05/2020 17:40

Yes stuck to them. At least I will have a clear conscious that I protected my family. Anyone boasting about flouting the rules on social media should be held accountable.

ilikebooksandplants · 09/05/2020 17:41

@TroysMammy I would probably class rescuing a kitten as ‘essential’, especially if it has been missing and without food or water for three days - that could have been fatal for the animal.
I can honestly say I haven’t broken lockdown at all - I’ve taken it incredibly seriously and done what was asked - but if my cat (or another animal!) was suffering/injured/needed to be rescued I would break lockdown in a heartbeat. That’s definitely essential (which is still allowed!) so I don’t think you have broken lockdown actually. Hope your cat is ok.

Harleyisme · 09/05/2020 17:42

We have stuck to it mostly.
In the last 5 weeks my grandparents, uncle and family dog has died. My mum is massively struggling so on daily walk we walk past my parents house and stop and have a quick chat but we keep to social distancing and we don't go in the house.

AllieAct · 09/05/2020 17:43

Phil Cornwall Why is unworkable for you?

Not snarking, just interested.

Nottherealslimshady · 09/05/2020 17:43

Stuck to it. Only seen PILs while taking their supplies.

moveandmove · 09/05/2020 17:44

I've stuck to it. I've not seen any friends or family.

luvabellawilleatme · 09/05/2020 17:44

Twice,

My brother-in-law picked me up to take me shopping for my 80 year old parents, I don't drive (am three quarters of the way through lesson but Covid has obviously stopped them) and they needed a big shop. It was towards the start when there were no online deliveries around here.

Looked after my friends son for a day, she is a nurse and her mum is suffering from cancer and caught Covid. Hospital said it would be better for her mum to be a home unless struggling to breathe, so my friend went to stay with her and nurse her. I had her son until her partner (a key worker as well) could get home.

Greengrassgravy · 09/05/2020 17:46

Me - I broke the guidelines not the rules. Posted a letter to my nephew for his birthday - they changed the collection times for all the post boxes and I ended up walking further than 100 yds to post the letter. And then dh went out for a proper walk together later on. So I went out twice - didn't go out at all the next day - so sum of excess risk equals close to zero!

PinkiOcelot · 09/05/2020 17:46

@PhilCornwall1 can I ask why? You just not give a shit or something? Would you expect a ventilator in hospital?

user3274826 · 09/05/2020 17:47

I went shopping for non essentials today (paint and other DIY items from Wilko). That's breaking the rules I think and I wouldn't have done it however many weeks ago lockdown started.

cardibach · 09/05/2020 17:48

Stuck to it. Don’t understand why you wouldn’t as if there is a mental or physical health reason to see people you can.
I’m not a fan of the war comparisons, but to put it in perspective, my dad was overseas for 5 years in the war with no home leave at all. I’m pretty sure he’d have liked to see his mum, and vice versa. Not even any phones, and his letters to her were censored. This is easy by comparison.
I really want to see DD. I live alone. It’s not impossible though.

PinkiOcelot · 09/05/2020 17:48

Other than going to work, shopping and sometimes a walk when I get in from work, I haven’t been anywhere or seen family. It’s just not worth it. Even if lockdown reduced, I still won’t.
