Fucking barbecues...

The weather is gorgeous where we are, it’s been beautiful all week, perfect for line drying washing... except it’s not. Every last bastard on our road has decided to have a barbecue, pretty much Midday straight through to the evening there’s a bbq going somewhere. It’s driving me mad having to tumble dry our washing in this weather! I thought we were in luck earlier and put out my sheets... I’ve just had to go out to retrieve them as there’s at least two bbqs on the go now and my sheets now honk

Does anyone else think bbqs are antisocial or is it just me?

DH is South African. They live and breathe BBQ (or brai). Its part of the culture and its wonderful.
Antisocial, it's not.

The best steak in the world, it is!

Redyoyo · 09/05/2020 17:49

Our bbq is on just now smells fab!
You sound like the neighbour on our estate fb page who was moaning about someone having a firepit lit at 8pm and his washing was stinking. Who still has washing out at that time in Scotland at this time of year!

Bloodybridget · 09/05/2020 17:49

@MaryBerrystolemyflour it's using a tumble dryer when the sun would dry the washing in a few hours that's a waste of energy! Grin

Drivingdownthe101 · 09/05/2020 17:50

So people can’t go out. Can’t see their family and friends. Can’t take their children to the park. Can’t sit in a nice beer garden on a sunny bank holiday. Can’t earn a living in some cases. And now they can’t have a bloody bbq in their own garden either, in case someone wants to dry their washing?

GoodDogBellaBoo · 09/05/2020 17:51

I suggest you stop being antisocial and start bbq-ing. It’s perfect bbq weather. YABVU.

Sipperskipper · 09/05/2020 17:51

Its just you. Our garden is by no means huge and we often have a bbq with our washing on the line. It never smells of smoke!

I love having a bbq and I also love smelling other people's!

OneandTwenty · 09/05/2020 17:51

moaning about someone having a firepit lit at 8pm
that's rude and antisocial, who the hell thinks it's acceptable? A bbq is one thing when you are normal, firepits are not.

CannonCaboodle · 09/05/2020 17:52

Seriously?
Find something to do, OP.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 09/05/2020 17:52

Put your washing out first thing or even - horrors - overnight and stop being such a killjoy.

irisheyesaresmiling7 · 09/05/2020 17:52

I love BBQs!

I can smell a couple going at the minute and I'm wishing I'd made a bbq tonight instead of fishcakes Sad

Yep, OP I'd say you were antisocial.

Boireannachlaidir · 09/05/2020 17:53

Yup, they are vile in the UK.

Lynda07 · 09/05/2020 17:53

Barbecues are great. You can surely hang your washing up indoors, it will still dry, tumble it at the end. Or else put washing on at night and hang it out in the morning (if you're up early). It's not going to be such good weather tomorrow anyway according to the forecast.

Don't be a killjoy, you can have a barbecue too. I'd love some barbecued food right now.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 09/05/2020 17:53

Check the weather forecast and then as others have said hang your washing out overnight or first thing in the morning.
TBH you are also being anti social by expecting people not to enjoy the sunshine so you can hang washing out whenever you feel like it

OneandTwenty · 09/05/2020 17:53

And now they can’t have a bloody bbq in their own garden either, in case someone wants to dry their washing

to be fair, IF bbq were a nuisance, then no, they shouldn't. You shouldn't do anything that impact negatively on your neighbours when you decide to live in the middle of a community. Your neighbour's washing has no impact on you!

If you can't cook food without smoking people out, no, you shouldn't have one. Most people managed not to be antisocial though

sunflowery · 09/05/2020 17:54

YABVVVVVU.

I love the smell of BBQs - it’s the smell of summer Smile Put your washing out in the morning!

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 17:54

Bloody hell, I left that out of my lists of Things MNers Will Moan About If BBQs Were Banned, no one's allowed a fire pit or chiminea, either.

Jaxhog · 09/05/2020 17:54

Well, they're better than bonfires. Neither are great fun when you have asthma and are in lockdown. Not a lot of point in sunny weather if you can't actually go out.

I think everyone needs to have a bit more consideration for other people. But that's hardly new.

OneandTwenty · 09/05/2020 17:54

hang your washing out overnight
what's the point of that? It won't dry...

Bluntness100 · 09/05/2020 17:55

Can’t say I’d be prioritising my washing over someone having a bbq during lock down. Crack on would be my thoughts, it’s shit enough without someone whinging you can’t have a bbq because they want to dry their washing.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 09/05/2020 17:55

No, I dont think BBQs are anti social. Thats ridiculous. Its lockdown, if people arent allowed to cook food in their own bloody gardens then whats the fcking point? Would you prefer we just all sit in a darkened room?

Your washing does NOT trump everyone else's enjoyment.

Good grief, the entitlement is insane

LovePoppy · 09/05/2020 17:56

What happened to manners? People telling - or in today's climate - posting a note through someone's letterbox to warn them of a barbecue - so neighbours could get washing in

Should they also tell you if they are going to make a strong curry?

Jeepers. Someone is precious today.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 09/05/2020 17:56

It won't dry...

Really? Because the washing I hung up yesterday evening was dry this morning.

GREATAUNT1 · 09/05/2020 17:56

I’m with you OP, they taste as bad as they stink. Some people won’t know any different.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 09/05/2020 17:57

If I ever get to the point where I see lovely weather and think 'ooo, I could wash the sheets' I know I'll have reached peak boring

Oh, shush it, you😂
You can be both. When I wake up to beautiful day I do "oooh, sheets, now, will smell wonderful! And marinate the meat for bbq asap!"Grin

Bluntness100 · 09/05/2020 17:57

You shouldn't do anything that impact negatively on your neighbours when you decide to live in the middle of a community. Your neighbour's washing has no impact on you!

Well clearly it does if it stops you Having a bbq.
