Fucking barbecues...

The weather is gorgeous where we are, it’s been beautiful all week, perfect for line drying washing... except it’s not. Every last bastard on our road has decided to have a barbecue, pretty much Midday straight through to the evening there’s a bbq going somewhere. It’s driving me mad having to tumble dry our washing in this weather! I thought we were in luck earlier and put out my sheets... I’ve just had to go out to retrieve them as there’s at least two bbqs on the go now and my sheets now honk

Does anyone else think bbqs are antisocial or is it just me?

The only bbq which affects my washing being out is my own so I take it in before I bbq. Neighbours bbq’s don’t bother me or my washing in the slightest.

GreyGardens88 · 09/05/2020 17:21

YABU, I like the smell even if I'm not having it

Smillar2020 · 09/05/2020 17:21

Dry your clothes at the side of your house away from gardens if it bothers you

Bluebell878275 · 09/05/2020 17:21

NoWordForFluffy You don't mind your washing getting darked on Shock shiver

ooooohbetty · 09/05/2020 17:21

Never ever noticed my washing smelling because of a bbq. It's all in your head.

chunkyrun · 09/05/2020 17:22

I love a bbq

Roussette · 09/05/2020 17:22

p.s. my barbecues do not smell of smoke and burnt fat! We keep the lid down and do it on low and it is the food the gods.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 09/05/2020 17:22

I don’t like BBQ. It’s so much hassle mess and really over rated.
😱 You are doing it wrong.
I love it because kitchen stays nice and clean.
Marinate meat in a morning or even night before. Prep veg, pop in a fridge. Clean kitchen.
When the time comes, meat goes and veg go on a grill. Dirty bowl (meat one) straight into a dishwasher.
All is then put on 1 big tray (veg was on previously) with dips and whatever else is needed and everyone gets a plate and helps themselves.
Simple. And very relaxing imo.
Leftovers into the fridge, the few dishes into the dishwasher and done.

Prontoe · 09/05/2020 17:23

I love it when the clearly antisocial person of the village comes on to complain about how antisocial being sociable is... The irony is quite comedic really.

TinRoofRusty · 09/05/2020 17:24

Just you. Put the washing out in the evening.

LondonJax · 09/05/2020 17:24

I hate BBQ. I hate the smell of them and I hate going to them. There's always a wait whilst Uncle John gets another half a dozen (charred) sausages plated up, then bungs another half a dozen on with chicken that's never cooked properly in the middle.

The best and most relaxed garden 'parties' I've been to have been where the food is cooked in an oven, laid out on a buffet and everyone is served at pretty much the same time. I've never been to a BBQ with more than 10 people where everyone is eating together - there's always some poor sod waiting on a burger or a piece of chicken.

I'm with you OP. I have a party for 25 to 30 people every year (not this year though sadly) and I always cook everything in the oven - safer with kids around too.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 09/05/2020 17:25

@NoveltyFunsies off topic, but I am v Envy of you being 3/4 mile away from the nearest house! That’s my ideal Grin

ypestis · 09/05/2020 17:25

I have an irrational hatred of BBQs so not just you OP although I think we are Definitely in the minority

Amanduh · 09/05/2020 17:26

Oh well. Put them out early then.

Walkingthedog46 · 09/05/2020 17:26

I’m with you OP. My neighbour has a BBQ most evenings And Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes in the nice weather. Fair enough but, like you, I don’t want to have to bring my washing in and close the windows to keep the smell out

WorraLiberty · 09/05/2020 17:26

If BBQs were banned, what would MNetters moan about?

Burntmybiscuits · 09/05/2020 17:27

First World problems. YABU

Cameron2012 · 09/05/2020 17:27

YABU about bbqs, however if you were sat in my garden atm you would be being treated to at least 4 different lots of very loud music a couple of pressure washers a fuck load of drunken women shouting and one that is joining in with her screaming child. I therefore declare my area City Of Cunts

LuckyMarmiteLover · 09/05/2020 17:27

Just had a yummy BBQ 😋

Alex50 · 09/05/2020 17:27

Wow mumsnet is full of miserable so and so’s who want us locked away in our houses and never allowed out even in our gardens to have a BBQ in the sun. I’m so glad none of you are my neighbours

Roussette · 09/05/2020 17:27

Well.... you are not going to the right type of barbecues then. My chicken is never half cooked, if it's on the bone, it's 3/4 cooked in the oven first. Sausages are from farm shop and bloody delicious. Marinated kebabs with vegetables. Halloumi and courgette marinated in olive oil and parsley.
And my fave at the mo.... my homemade burgers with beef minced from butcher stuffed in the middle with tallegio cheese.

What's not to like

TeacupDrama · 09/05/2020 17:28

in this nice weather washing would be dry in 90 minutes so out by 10 in well before 12

There is no advice against BBQ's; that's making rules up; some fire brigades advise against bonfires as can get out of control but unless there is a specific by-law in your area, bonfires in gardens are legal, though having a bonfire as more than once or twice a year in a built up area is probably selfish

ChelseaCat · 09/05/2020 17:28

Just you. Don’t be such a grump

JellyfishandShells · 09/05/2020 17:28

My washing was dry really quickly earlier in the day. There are quite a few bbqs on the go in the gardens around - smells delicious, good for them ( regretting our supper choice, slightly atm ......)

Bertucci · 09/05/2020 17:29

We have just lit our (real) barbecue.

We left it until after 5pm to be considerate and our garden is big, so hopefully not affecting anyone. But I suspect we are all tumble dryers as I have never seen washing on lines either side.

Now bonfires - they can just fuck off.
