AIBU to say Congratulations to the 13 year old girl who has won her test case against Oxfordshire council. A brave young woman who did what a lot if adults are afraid to do

OP posts:
TwelfthOfNever · 09/05/2020 16:29

Keep it in feminism.

user1465335180 · 09/05/2020 16:32

Can I ask why Twelfth , why should congratulations only befor feminists?

OP posts:
NearlyGranny · 09/05/2020 16:34

No, let's have it everywhere. Though it's sad it was left to a child to challenge. Where was the safeguarding for her?

YgritteSnow · 09/05/2020 16:38

Keep it in feminism.

No. Smile

Yes well done to her. I'm so glad this has happened. I was genuinely worried that this was just how it wound he now as no one was listening.

whiteroseredrose · 09/05/2020 16:38

Everyone needs to know about this, not just feminists.

So many people that I spoke to last year had no idea about the potential changes to the law.

YgritteSnow · 09/05/2020 16:39

Would be not wound he!

Wishforsnow · 09/05/2020 16:41

What an excellent outcome and so brave of the 13 year old to stand up for her right to privacy and not let the school decide girls feelings do not matter if a boy decides to feel a certain way and invade their space

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 09/05/2020 16:41

I'm delighted by the result.

TwelfthOfNever · 09/05/2020 16:42

Because every time it's mentioned, people who have hidden feminism specifically do it to avoid all the relentless trans "discussion" and back patting. The threads always go one way, and it's not interesting.

TwelfthOfNever · 09/05/2020 16:43

Also interesting use of the accented "r". Trying to avoid word-based filtering too?

RaininSummer · 09/05/2020 16:43

Safeguarding and school policies aren't just for feminists surely? Good outcome.

PubsClubsMinistryOfSound · 09/05/2020 16:45

Feel free to block the thread and leave the rest of us who are happy to read and discuss the issue in AIBU to it then twelfth.

Yanbu OP, and thanks for bringing it to my attention here.

Norma27 · 09/05/2020 16:48

Another who is delighted.

vinoandbrie · 09/05/2020 16:50

Good on her, thank God common sense won through.

user1465335180 · 09/05/2020 16:54

No Twelfth, no hidden agenda, I just can't text properly. This isn't supposed to be a transgender bashing or feminist thread, merely my opinion that a 13 year old who will brave the courts for what she believes in is to be applauded.

OP posts:
YgritteSnow · 09/05/2020 17:00

You can just hide the thread @TwelfthOfNever. Why should 1000s of people not get to know about this because you don't want to?

GladAllOver · 09/05/2020 17:00

But it's not over yet. This is only a step towards getting women's and children's rights back.

YeahWhatevver · 09/05/2020 17:00

Is there a news story link?

Giespeace · 09/05/2020 17:01

YANBU. Well done to her for braving the abuse she will probably come in for, too. But it’s a disgrace that this girl had to go so far to protect rights that should be untouchable.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 09/05/2020 17:02

Ooh yes, let's keep stories about safeguarding exiled to one board . What a great idea Confused

Lockdown123 · 09/05/2020 17:03

Feel free to block the thread and leave the rest of us who are happy to read and discuss the issue in AIBU to it then twelfth.

There never is a discussion though. Not with anything to do with trans issues on this site. All people do on these threads is shout about how wrong it is and how all men and teenage boys are potential rapists and abusers. A discussion would be talking about how trans kids can be helped and supported without being vilified and pushed out of a society they have just as much right to belong in. Screaming no at every attempt of this is not doing that it is just saying "go away freak you don't belong here" without giving them a place to belong. Just like women were in the past. Or BAME people.

And yes I am a long member but have NC'd for this but I have first hand experience of watching a child destroyed by how they didn't fit in anywhere and how no adults came up with a solution just kept kept saying no to helping them.

Maybe the solution in Oxford isn't the solution but the hate on here certainly isn't

butterpuffed · 09/05/2020 17:03

How about a link for those of us who don't know what you're reffering to .

butterpuffed · 09/05/2020 17:04

Referring.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 09/05/2020 17:04

ANYTHING which takes boundaries and safeguarding away from young kids and girls to cater to a few is very fucking wrong though.

BovaryX · 09/05/2020 17:06

This is great news. Although it's some commentary on the bizarre times that a 13 year old girl has to go to court to ensure girls' privacy and safeguarding is protected. This is a significant achievement. Here is a link:
