To think easing lockdown on Monday is allowing a second peak to happen?

Exactly that really. Still 4,000 odd infections a day, 600 deaths a day and there easing up on Monday.

What’s the alternative?

Thymelord · 06/05/2020 13:04

I hope this doesn't happen on Monday, but it seems that (in my area at least) people have decided themselves that lockdown is over. The roads are busier than ever.

Thymelord · 06/05/2020 13:05

I also don't think it is definite that there is an easing coming on Monday, is it? I thought he was setting out his plans for lifting it, but not necessarily imminently changing anything. Or have I got that wrong?

TENDTOprocrastinate · 06/05/2020 13:05

I doubt they will be easing much up on Monday.

kimlo · 06/05/2020 13:06

Boris has just said that he's hoping for some easing to start on monday.

Of course it is. It's murder.

DateandTime · 06/05/2020 13:07

First, we don't know what will happen on Monday, second there is always going to be a second peak. Always was, the plan just hopes that it's contained at a level where the NHS can cope .

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 06/05/2020 13:07

What do you suggest?

The economy needs lockdown to be lifted. IF people want to keep jobs they have to get back to work. The country can NOT afford 80% of people’s wages much longer

People’s mental health need the lockdown to be eased

Seeing family is not natural

The virus isn’t leaving, a vaccine isn’t coming yet.

IF you wish to still not go out etc, your free to do that.

They won’t just lift lockdown and open everything, have everyone in the pub etc 🙄 They will slowly ease it over a period of time, probably open a few things, allow outdoor meet ups each week or similar

Coronabored · 06/05/2020 13:08

Murder! Get a grip.

sunnie1992 · 06/05/2020 13:09

The easing is going to be very gradual.

It sounds like schools won't even begin going back until June.

People don't have to ease restrictions. So anyone who is worried about it is welcome to carry on as we are.

If we don't get the economy moving then the next 10-15 years are going to be miserable for everyone, especially those on lower incomes.

Yes there will be more deaths. But, we don't lockdown the country for other infectious diseases, we do what we can to minimise deaths and we get on with it.

CruCru · 06/05/2020 13:10

The problem is, we need people to be able to earn taxable income for the NHS (and pretty much all other services) to exist. Far fewer people are working than originally expected; it’s a real problem.

blue25 · 06/05/2020 13:11

Hoping lockdown is extended another 3 weeks at least.

IndecentFeminist · 06/05/2020 13:11

They won't ease up much. But we have to at some point, what is the alternative?

redtickreturn · 06/05/2020 13:11

Boris has just said on PMQ that some measures will be lifted on Monday.

IndecentFeminist · 06/05/2020 13:12

Murder. 🤦‍♀️

ChilliCheese123 · 06/05/2020 13:12

Murder 😂😂😂

Thickmuthafuckers · 06/05/2020 13:13

Murder 😂

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/05/2020 13:13

People need to go back to work.

ipswichwitch · 06/05/2020 13:13

I can’t see them lifting it before the 2nd May bank holiday - can you imagine, everyone and their cousins will head to the pub or beach, be booking mini breaks and heading to the country. That’d cause a pretty big second peak.

Runningfar · 06/05/2020 13:13

Murder Hmm ffs.

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 06/05/2020 13:14

There was always going to be a second, and subsequent peaks, and there are likely to be further versions of lockdown in response. Lockdown wasn’t designed to eradicate the virus, it’s to manage the load on the NHS.

Alicemovedtothecity · 06/05/2020 13:14

Things have started to being lifted that’s why the roads are busier now.
Hopefully from Monday things will gradually be lifted more over the coming weeks. We need to start doing this for the economy as well as for people in general. We can not stay in lockdown forever. We have helped the NHS and eased the flow now it’s time to move on and work with covid-19 not be scared of it.

Wankerchief · 06/05/2020 13:14

Murder?
Look, with shielded children im not keen about ending lockdown but murder?

DateandTime · 06/05/2020 13:16

What about all the deaths caused by people insisting lockdown should go on indefinitely? The cancer screening and treatment that's not happening, the deaths caused by the poverty that will follow, the suicides as a result of the lockdown/business failures. Are they murder too?
