To feel like the only woman left who doesn't shave her pubes? 😂

During a group WhatsApp with friends last night, conversation (somehow!) turned to pubes. It would seem I am the only one who doesn't shave the whole lot off. I've done it a couple of times in the past but it itched when growing back and I actually feel sexier with a bit of a muff! Does anyone else not shave these days or am I a vile ogre?

I shaved my pubes when I met my fiance but after a couple of months of being with my now fiance I told him that actually I didn't like it and I wanted to be natural. He said "not an issue, for one its your choice and I'm not bothered either way". So apart from a bit of a trim that's it.

fiveoutoffive · 05/05/2020 18:34

It doesn’t. It looks like a grown woman’s genitalia sans hair. It’s a bit concerning when someone’s brain automatically goes to this line of thought tbh I once googled naturism because of a thread on here, and they were all middle aged and shaven, every one. I am not saying pre pubescent but definitely odd and not like grown adults sans hair, actually. But maybe that is to do with how we are brought up, what our cultural norm is. And like the posters have said above, porn... it brings to mind porn...

Peapod29 · 05/05/2020 18:35

It’s not hygienic to shave though. It’s actually a big infection risk.
, and hair wicks sweat away from the skin. I’ve noticed that when I don’t shave my pits they are a lot less sweaty (and need for deodorant is non existent). I pretty certain that sports people do it for the aesthetics. Ahem, cyclists, cough.

tentative3 · 05/05/2020 18:36

I've had mine all off, had a landing strip, had a full bush for a long time and currently prefer all off underneath and a tidied triangle on top. Nothing at all just highlights my belly and I do look a bit plucked chicken. If I was all flat bellied and tanned I might feel differently. I've given up on tampons and use period pants or pads and feel cleaner during my period with minimal hair underneath although I've no issues with it being trimmed rather than all off in terms of how I feel about that.

I couldn't care less what other women (or men) do with theirs and hate the judgement. I think the childlike thing is odd for all the reasons previously posted re other bodily hair, changes to the vulva etc and would just add that given we don't have kids my OH would have no idea whether I looked like a pre-pubescent child or not, because he has nothing to compare it to. Sure, he knows biologically there are changes but I don't think he really spends much time thinking about it and it certainly wouldn't be his first thought on seeing a bare vulva.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 05/05/2020 18:41

I shave it all off.

  1. Firstly, its the only way I get no irritation there- whenever I wax I get horrific red ingrown hairs. Shaving is the only way I can trim it in any shape or form without getting a horrid unsightly rash
  2. It feels better (oral sex feels better)
  3. Anyone who thinks it "looks like a child" needs psychological help. If the only way you can tell the difference between a grown woman and a child is by the length of their pubic hair then you may as well just hand yourself into the police now because thats MIGHTY worrying
  4. Why all the nasty comments? I couldn't give a toss how other people trim their pubes, its certainly none of my business but I see others just cant help making gross mysogynistic remarks- they can STFU because NO1CURR about your wretched opinions!
OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 05/05/2020 18:42

You still sweat the same, but it stays in the hair rather than showing on a shirt.

fascinated · 05/05/2020 18:46

I was one of the people surprised about the topic. Tbh I have never discussed eyebrows or underarm hair with friends either. Why would I?

(starting to dawn on me why I never really gelled with the other girls as a teenager...really? That is what folk talk about? I had no idea. )

LightenUpSummer · 05/05/2020 18:47

It literally did look exactly like that to me when I did it.

Hedgehog44 · 05/05/2020 18:48

I only trim and tidy. I think I'd look odd without them

CarolefeckinBaskin · 05/05/2020 18:49

I mostly shave it all off.
Sometimes I leave the landing strip area, depends how I feel but more often than not all off!
I prefer it and have done it, pretty much since it started growing.
I'm 41.
I didn't have access to porn and back when I was 14/15 bushes were the thing anyway so my influence is defo not porn related. I just prefer it.
My Dh doesn't care whatever I do but I've had partners that didn't like it so much so the landing strip happened more often with them. When heavily pregnant is probably the closest I've came to a bush and hated it.
For me it's the same as shaving my legs and armpits - I don't like anywhere to be too hairy.
Each to their own.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 05/05/2020 18:52

What about shaved arm pits?- do they look like a child? or shaved legs?
Can people recognise the difference between a child and a grown adult that shaves her legs?

What about women going through chemo who have lost all their hair, would you say that means they no longer look like grown women?

Seriously vile comments on here. I cant understand why anyone who even give two fcks what another person does with their minge. Who cares??

Yellowsubmarinedreams · 05/05/2020 18:52

@WombatChocolate I remember being 13/14 when I started neatening the sides and 15 when I shaved it all off. Similar amongst my friends.

IsAnybodyListening · 05/05/2020 18:52

To be fair. My Lady Garden is so overgrown, DP needed a map and SatNav a couple of weeks ago.

fiveoutoffive · 05/05/2020 18:53

I meant odd to me, not odd, sorry, and it was only because they were all without exception completely shaved. In every photo. Surely within that group it should be like this thread, some people do and some people don't? No judging from me, totally up to the individual. I wouldn't because Iike pubes on me and on men. I like hairy chests on men too, lol.

LightenUpSummer · 05/05/2020 18:56

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter How on earth am I being vile? I'm just reporting the fact that I, a skinny flat-chested but adult woman, resembled a pre-teen girl when I had no pubes and looked down.

There's absolutely nothing more to it, no moral judgement or nastiness.

Fromthebirdsnest · 05/05/2020 18:56

I have everything waxed off & have since I was a late teen however I'm having to shave because of lockdown and if I couldn't go for a wax indefinately I don't think of bother , I know my DH and wouldn't care either way as we do still have relations if I m due a wax and he doesn't recoil in horror 😂 .. I was however very impressed that Marianne had natural public hair in normal people too as lots of young people will be watching , I am disappointed at other mumsnetters shameing those who remove there hair , what's it got to do with anyone else ? And honestly if you think a grown woman's anatomy would be child like them your very silly and calling other women pathetic is pathetic , Bush or bald all women are beautiful !

Midsommar · 05/05/2020 18:57

I get the entire thing (including the erm, back passage) waxed. Every hair comes off. Personal preference, I feel unclean with hair down there! Each to their own though Smile

fascinated · 05/05/2020 18:57

Glad my colleagues never discussed this in my office.

The amount of faffing around and money that being “groomed” seems to involve nowadays is quite astonishing, I’m sure it is absolutely nothing to do with manufacturing and monetising people’s (in particular women’s) insecurity into a multimillion pound grooming industry, nothing at all.

sammylady37 · 05/05/2020 19:00

What on earth do you mean they didn’t look like grown adults sans hair?? That’s exactly what they were! They weren’t children, they weren’t teenagers, they were grown adults who had removed their public hair. And presumably (hopefully) you could identify them as such. If you couldn’t, perhaps you need some further education.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 05/05/2020 19:00

How on earth am I being vile

I'm not referring to you specifically. I mean all the posts about "ew how gross" and "why would you want to look like a pre pubescent girl" etc

I mean, really? if a grown woman with shaved pubes was stood beside a 5 year old are people REALLY saying they look THE SAME? BS. By that rationale, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between a young girl who shaved her legs and a grown woman.
Its a ridiculous argument and is just as mysogynistic as telling a woman her full bush is gross.

fascinated · 05/05/2020 19:01

Can’t go for a wax... ?

You mean get someone else to wax you? Now that is even more bizarre. You literally are naked with legs akimbo while someone messes around with your public hair? Mind boggles....

If people allow this, I wonder why are so many squeamish about smears? Presumably not the same people.

GreasyFryUp · 05/05/2020 19:02

No you are not. In the absence of DP during lockdown I'm letting the full mop grow.....

Somersetlady · 05/05/2020 19:03

Eurghh shaving the itch!

Indon’t like it bare down there - it is how pre pubescent children are and the thought of that turning a man on turns me right off!

Just the edges waxed for me and a home trim 🙈

KisstheTeapot14 · 05/05/2020 19:04

I did once, round the edges - it itched like fury growing back and skin was all read and angry. It's quite happy as it is and I let it do its own thing now. If I swim I just wear a costume with 'legs' so the hairy bits are covered. I find naked vulvas a bit odd. I feel sorry for them on girls/ women past puberty like I want to knit them something to keep out the chill. I won't conform to some porn standard, especially a rather unsavory one which appears to fetishise pre- puberty as the ideal.
