To feel like the only woman left who doesn't shave her pubes? 😂

During a group WhatsApp with friends last night, conversation (somehow!) turned to pubes. It would seem I am the only one who doesn't shave the whole lot off. I've done it a couple of times in the past but it itched when growing back and I actually feel sexier with a bit of a muff! Does anyone else not shave these days or am I a vile ogre?

I've never shaved anything other than my bikini line . Partly because after a few times of just trimming it as short as it would trim I decided I didn't like that all over and that was still with very very short hair. And most importantly because I have eczema and shaving irritates my skin. I only shave my bikini line when I feel it's necessary (swimming, wearing very short skirts/shorts). Otherwise I just trim the rest of it pretty short once a week or so.

I am an adult with adult genitals which have no pubic hair. I’m surprised so many people think hair on the mons pubis is the only market of adulthood.

Ah the old pubes debate. Shaving absolutely no way. There’s just no way it doesn’t end up looking like a bobbly old chicken skin after a few days and the risk of ingrown hairs isn’t worth it IMO. I’ve never cared enough to bother looking into other methods. I’ve never asked what dh thinks. I do find it fascinating that so many women on here will insist that they go through the arduous/expensive and probably painful ritual of hair removal purely because they love it though. Of course trends don’t happen in a vacuum, of course you’ve been influenced by societal norms. 20 years ago a whole industry didn’t exists to remove pubes. I think in some circles it’s very much expected that women will be bare but among the young arty, intelligent ‘thinking’ woke types I know there is a certainly a backlash against female body hair removal now (although very small sample I know). I think the bush will be back. Long may it last!

It makes you wonder why there aren't more adult men with adult faces which include facial hair.

The porn influence maybe?

Jezebel101 · 05/05/2020 17:55

Surely you know you're not the only one. Common sense would dictate you are not. Not sure why you need to ask women on the internet for details of their public hair...

To discuss peoples habits, on a discussion board? I never really get the point of comments like this.

I've a landing strip atm, it goes from just tidying up the bikini line to most off. I don't like the all-off look on myself, but YMMV.

@minipie

You could say that about so many things though, there are loads of things that are more common now than 30 years ago. Purely going on looks, fake nails, hair extensions, microbladed eyebrows etc etc etc. Do these bother you too?

LuckyAmy1986 · 05/05/2020 17:57

Everyone on here saying they don’t do anything to their pubes because you don’t want to look child like. You also don’t shave your underarms for the same reason right? Right??

TheHighestSardine · 05/05/2020 17:58

Grade three buzzcut all the way. No itchiness at all, no spiderlegs, and keeps from being his tooth floss that way! Only takes a moment every couple of weeks.

Thehop · 05/05/2020 17:59

Not just you

I’m au naturelle too

HaddawayAndShite · 05/05/2020 18:01

why would a woman want to have the genitalia of a pre-pubescent girl?
It doesn’t. It looks like a grown woman’s genitalia sans hair. It’s a bit concerning when someone’s brain automatically goes to this line of thought tbh.

What bothers me is that it’s become so much more common to remove the lot than it used to be, say 20 or 30 years ago.
And it’s more common to have a full bush today than it was 10 years ago. It’s all cyclical and related to trends and fashion, even in Ancient Egypt they used to remove all body hair with sugar based waxes. In the Roman Times total removal of body hair was a sign of wealth so flint razors were used. And in the 60s when wax strips were invented it was more common to have a waxed bikini line than not.

Why does no one get this het up about armpit hair though?

MerryDeath · 05/05/2020 18:01

not in this house, I'm not losing my full bush any time soon.

GeraltOfRivia · 05/05/2020 18:02

I don't shave downstairs. I'll tidy the edges for a holiday bikini or swimming but where possible don't bother and just wear a shorts based swimming cossie

Don't shave underarm either. Or my legs usually

CrystalTipped · 05/05/2020 18:05

Everyone on here saying they don’t do anything to their pubes because you don’t want to look child like. You also don’t shave your underarms for the same reason right? Right??

Child like doesn't come into it for me. I just refuse to spend any of my money getting hair ripped from my body. And that includes underarms, and legs.

My hair removal routine begins and ends with upper lip maintenance.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 05/05/2020 18:10

I am currently rockin a 70s bush, but I do tril and tidy up if I need to wear swimwear on holiday. I'm not a fan of being bald, it's just draughtyGrin

dangerrabbit · 05/05/2020 18:14

Who talks about this kind of stuff with their friends 🤔

SlightyJaded · 05/05/2020 18:14

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit. There were some leaked/hacked photos of Danielle Lloyd. Her partner was eating Pringles out of her. I think the poster was referencing how 'neat' her vulva was - and the notion that she'd possibly had surgery for it to look like that.

minipie · 05/05/2020 18:14

Honestly, yes, if people feel they need to do these things to look good. Which presumably they do or else why do it. Waxing is particularly depressing though as people are choosing to endure pain.

Haddaway out of interest did Ancient Egyptian and Roman men remove their body hair? Or just the women? I know Egyptian men had shaved heads, presumably as it was so hot...

CakeItOrLeave · 05/05/2020 18:16

It would be interesting to know ages of those that are not shaving.

Maybe because I’m in my 20s I am very surprised at the overwhelming “I don’t shave” responses. A majority of those in my age group do remove hair🤷‍♀️

Tootletum · 05/05/2020 18:16

I find it quite ugly when waxed, makes all the saggy bits so much more obvious. I never shave it as can't deal with the itch.

LuckyAmy1986 · 05/05/2020 18:16

@CrystalTipped that's fair enough. I was asking the people who don't do anything to it for the reason that they don't want to look childlike. I do realise there are people who don't for other reasons. I very rarely do anything to mine, it wasn't coming from a place of judgment. I just really don't get the childlike thing, because I'll bet a lot remove the underarm hair. So what's the difference?

Sparrowlegs248 · 05/05/2020 18:20

I trim the lot with bikini line trimmer, then shake the sides, I can't shave without ending up with itchy rashy ingrown hairs though, so the shaving happens less and less.

LightenUpSummer · 05/05/2020 18:21

I did it once and it did look childlike to me, was freaked out and haven't done it since. It honestly reminded me vividly of how I looked circa age 11. No moral judgement on anyone else.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 05/05/2020 18:26

Honestly, yes, if people feel they need to do these things to look good. Which presumably they do or else why do it.
Some people prefer it for easier hygiene. Tbh everyone, man and women alike, I know who is super into sports gets rid of most of body hair.

WombatChocolate · 05/05/2020 18:28

On a related note, can I ask about teenage daughters - at what age are they interested in starting to shave their bits and what age to take the lot off? Just interested and actually a bit sad about youngish teenagers wanting to do it.

Anyone with daughters been through/discussed this?
