What 3 things has mumsnet taught you about life?

(Lighthearted obviously)

  1. Never answer the phone if it's a number that you don't recognise or is withheld.

  1. Never answer the door if somebody hasn't pre-booked an appointment and definitely not after 7pm, even if it is somebody like the police (see 1.)

  1. Under no circumstances must you communicate with your neighbours except by passive aggressive notes about their legal parking.

Anyone got any others?

You can't have a dog in a flat, ever!

The only dogs that are ethically permissible are retired greyhounds and if you must have a pedigree 🙄, then you'll need to get a poodle.

A term time holiday will ruin your child's education, it will never recover.

It's perfectly ok to tell people not to buy your child birthday or Christmas presents because you, the adult doesn't want "plastic tat" in the house. Who gives a fig for what your child actually wants or would enjoy?

Ex wives are bitter and jealous, and nine times out of ten dreadful parents who have raised mannerless, spoiled brats who the step mothers must work with to undo all the damage on their infrequent visits.

  1. Many people exaggerate

  1. Many people live fanatsy lives/personalities out on Internet forums

  1. Today I learned if I don't use £100s worth of face cream with increasingly stupid names, my skin will shrivel up by the time I'm 40.

1) only on mumsnet will people agree that it's ok to give your children ridiculous made up names

Only on mumsnet will posters openly mock non-English names they don't recognise and deem them 'made-up'.

2) only on mumsnet are the under 30's unable to buy their own home

I don't think this is true. I do think it's noted on MN that under 30s without a bank of mum and dad will find it far more difficult to ever buy a home, never mind before 30. That's more of the current economical truth rather than an MN exaggeration.

How bonkers people are.
You need to follow up every opinion with a link or stats.
If you have anything, dont tell anyone, jealousy is rife.
If you are being a right bi**h to people, it's ok, you can suddenly mention your mental health that you never mentioned before.
That everyone must live in exactly the same place, ie where you live absolutely cant be different to what anyone else says.
If you say something about where you live, someone else will come along who has looked at the stats for that area and tell you, that you are wrong.
The WHO is god.

  1. That MILs are evil.

  1. Anyone who wants to visit you within the first six months after you've had a baby is unreasonable and intrusive and you should go NC with them immediately, especially if they're your in laws.

  1. Your husband's family should know their place and not expect to spend Christmas with him ever again because you're your "own little family" now, which does not include his parents or siblings.

  1. A lot of women put up with a lot of really awful men.

  1. The pill has a 75% failure rate, which is why so many women have so many accidental babies with these really awful men.

On a more serious note, I am genuinely astounded at the number of women who don't have any real degree of financial independence from their husbands, or worse, unmarried partners.

The husbands or partners of other posters pay for sex or have affairs at work, but 'mine doesn't and never would'.

If someone posts a fact, something they have honestly experienced, they will be jumped on and accused of lying because nothing like that ever happens.

Pregnant women and healthy children should be offered seats on buses and and allowed to sit in the disabled places because they are more important than those that are old, infirm or with disabilities.

That my opinion or experience is always wrong.
