I know these are difficult times but FFS Sainsburys! If I order a box of wine and it's not available, surely you should sub it for another box? Or perhaps 3 bottles so it's a similar amount. Not a single 18.7cl bottle. It's neither use nor ornament!

No, they come from rivers, they are freshwater
How do they get to the Bahamas then? On a cruise?

The ones "we" (i.e. other people!) eat in the UK in jellied eels are freshwater, from rivers. That's what we were talking about.

We are currently not accepting returned or rejected items at your doorstep. Please refer to our Help Hub to find out what to do."

Maybe it differs across the country but here they are and have been for the past couple weeks now- they didn't initially but they are now. They ask you before they start to unload and go and find the items and remove them.

Their instructions for how to claim a refund don't work, theirs loads of complaints on Twitter about it

Again- here it is very simple. you go into the order that has just been received and select the item. I have just double checked this in my last order and it works. It is the same system as ocado here.

Initially in Covid 19 you just told the driver you didn't want the sub and they just remove it and you got to keep it.

raffaroo · 02/05/2020 20:08

Someone told me once that they ordered spring onions and got daffodils 🤦🏼‍♀️

BakewellTarts · 02/05/2020 20:12

My "best" (worst?) substitution was Scotch Eggs for Eggs...now you can't bake a cake with them can you!!!

GabsAlot · 02/05/2020 20:13

thanks'swampy appreciate what you're doing. I don't know wither to turn mine off or not. do Tesco send an email before hand

IllegalFred · 02/05/2020 20:23

Well, here they are not allowing you to reject refunds as stated on the website and their are no options to request refunds.

Plenty of people with the same issue

The BEST and funniest substitution I ever got was when I ordered Bubble Bath from Tescos a few years back. The delivery driver was even laughing as he presented me with a giant box that had a massive bubble making hoop/machine for children's parties.

Lolly34h · 02/05/2020 20:32

I ordered the extra mild old el paso fajita kit. Asda substituted a jalepeno one! 0

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 02/05/2020 20:49

Ordered polenta.
Got 4 double packets of lemon pie filling...

I work in this industry. The pickers can override the suggested substitutions where I work; however, we have employed many very inexperienced pickers in my store atm to help with the great increase in deliveries, especially to try to fulfil orders from vulnerable customers.

I'll just give you one example of a suggested substitution. You order a Heinz chicken soup. It's not available. The suggested substitution is a different Heinz soup. So, pickers don't know if the chicken is more important to you or the Heinz. They have to make many such decisions throughout their shift. Sometimes they get it wrong but mostly our customers get exactly what they ordered.

The vast majority of my colleagues want to do their absolute best for our customers. We are humans and working in a quite challenging environment. It's very difficult to keep our social distance from one another while still working but we really do want to help our customers.

Is it only Tesco that allow you to put notes on everything you want to accept substitutions for? I've found it's worked well, e.g. I ordered some gluten free oatcakes and put a note that any sort of gluten free cracker type thing was fine and so i ended up with some crackerbread things instead

thesnailandthewhale · 02/05/2020 21:34

Today the Philadelphia that I'd ordered to make a cheesecake with was substituted for a value tub of cottage cheese :(

The best sub I ever had was when I ordered a bag of pink foam mushroom sweets and they sent me a tin of button mushrooms instead :(

Frankola · 02/05/2020 21:39

My favourite ever sub was fairy cakes instead of bread...

Shit for making sandwiches though! Grin

Nottherealslimshady · 02/05/2020 21:44

My worst ever was when they swapped baby corn for green beans!

Villageidiots · 02/05/2020 21:47

You are all so funny with your little made up stories of your bad subs! Lol! Lol! Lol!

thegreylady · 02/05/2020 22:04

Sainsbury’s suggested 1kg of granulated sugar as an acceptable substitute for 2 tins of evaporated milk...

NotMiranda · 02/05/2020 22:07

Favourite ever (I think originally from here):

To be unimpressed with this substitution
wibdib · 02/05/2020 22:16

Last week I ordered a Jus Rol Pizza kit. Got Jus Rol cook your own pain au chocolat instead. Which were very nice but no good for supper one night!

Best one I’ve seen on my a few years ago was someone who had ordered scallops as an impressive starter for a dinner party and had been given fish fingers onstead...

HaddawayAndShite · 02/05/2020 22:17

That octopus substitute made me spit my drink out.

Asda subbed their own brand rhubarb and ginger gin for berry gin. Im sure they had Whitley Neill but didn’t want to give me the good stuff. But the worst sub was decaf coffee instead of normal coffee ... my caffeine withdrawal have been awful Grin

Fudgecakes · 02/05/2020 22:18

I was substituted garlic for of ginger.. cos they taste really similar Hmm and everyone knows making 'garlicbread' men is just as much fun as making gingerbread men and they are just as yummy Hmm

Nonotmenori · 02/05/2020 22:21

I got my Sainsbury's order yesterday. They sub my smooth orange juice for one with bits in 😭 they also sub vanilla extract for one that's £6!😱

Mapril · 02/05/2020 22:37

Today Asda swapped Cabernet Sauvignon for Sauvignon blanc.
DH answers the door and didn't hand it back!
Muppets!

Had the same but opposite from ASDA click and collect (albeit a few years ago). The person looked at me a bit Confused when I said no thanks, I'd rather not have red wine in place of white.

Corrag · 03/05/2020 09:34

@Villageidiots why are you still blathering on about this being made up? You've been shown various bits of evidence. If you still think people are making it up, jog on.

I hope the person who received my two loaves of bread that I ordered and paid for enjoyed them, my breakfast boiled egg was sadly soldierless that morning.

Hemuli I can assure you vulnerable people can also be pissheads, I am one.

JasperHale · 03/05/2020 09:53

Before Easter I ordered prosecco (tesco), and got mulled wine 🤦‍♀️
