So I’ve realised I’ve been very negative lately and I know a lot of people only go on AIBU and reading through all the threads can get a bit overwhelming. So I wanted to post something happy.

One of the small things that makes me happy is an unexpected pocket in a dress. I mean, I may never use that pocket for anything other than my hands (phone falls out etc) but it still gives me so much glee.

I thought we can share this happiness around either by posting links/pictures of our pocket dresses or, if I am being unreasonable, sharing what other small things make you happy.

I love pockets especially in a dress. I bought a new dress once and the second time I wore it discovered it had pockets. They were a total surprise as you couldn't see them.

echt · 02/05/2020 10:24

Uniqlo is very good for pockets in their women's clothes.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/05/2020 10:25

I love pockets, esp in dresses. I find it irritating that baby boys are more likely to get pockets than fully grown women, who have stuff to carry.

TeenPlusTwenties · 02/05/2020 10:27

Unexpected pockets are a joy.

But the real issue is no unexpected pockets, but that we have been trained to not expect them. I very rarely carry a bag. I need pockets and it is disgraceful how clothes designers don't put them in as standard. fashion over function far too many times.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/05/2020 10:27

Pockets are the best thing ever! Especially pockets big enough to carry a phone.

Dangerous Coats

Someone clever once said
Women were not allowed pockets
In case they carried leaflets
To spread sedition
Which means unrest
To you & me
A grandiose word
For commonsense
Fairness
Kindness
Equality
So ladies, start sewing
Dangerous coats
Made of pockets & sedition

I don't wear dresses because they rarely have pockets. I can't cope without them!

TheClitterati · 02/05/2020 10:29

I make my dresses, all with big phone, lippy, key carrying, Seditious pockets.

YouTheCat · 02/05/2020 10:31

I once bought a pair of jeans (not jeggings) got them home and they had no sodding pockets at the front. No bloody use. Where would I put my keys, small change and phone?

snackcollector · 02/05/2020 10:34

Love a pocket on a dress! I'd say most of my dresses have pockets. I really notice the missing pocket on the ones that don't!

Ponoka7 · 02/05/2020 10:36

I watch 'say yes to the dress', since lock down and the bride-to-be, is always delighted when she finds the dress she loves has pockets. In a full wedding dress, they make perfect sense.

I like military style jackets in warmer weather and the last few years it's been difficult to find a jacket with real pockets, rather than show pockets. I used to keep a travel pass in one top pocket, debit card in the other, phone in the bottom and glasses on the other side, with a tissue. A reusable water bottle and I was good to go.

Ridingthegravytrain · 02/05/2020 10:37

I bought some pyjamas the other day and was delighted to find they had pockets

terrigrey · 02/05/2020 11:22

LOVE a dress with pockets.
They are usually no good for carrying things, but I love to be able to shove my hands in my pockets. One of life's small pleasures!

LakieLady · 02/05/2020 11:31

I love pockets, especially in dresses.

A couple of days ago, I found that my coat, which I've had for 8 months, has a dinky little pocket inside for a phone.

I was quite unfeasibly delighted.

BestIsWest · 02/05/2020 11:34

White Stuff and Seasalt are pretty good for dresses with pockets.

It drives me mad though that even when women’s clothes (jeans, coats) do have pockets they are usually smaller than men’s pockets.
DH can carry phone, keys, wallet in just the pockets of his jeans.

sideorderofchips · 02/05/2020 11:38

Carolina dress room dresses have pockets.

I love a good pocket

annielouisa · 02/05/2020 11:39

My favourite dresses are from a British company called Popsy. I used to be just a jeans and t-shirt girl. Until l discovered Popsy. Bright colours, fun themes and of course pockets!

ClientQ · 02/05/2020 11:40

Yes to popsy. Their Shirley dress is my fave

Stonerosie67 · 02/05/2020 11:42

Ha, I came on to recommend Popsy too 😊

CurseryKinkajoo · 02/05/2020 11:42

I was once lucky to be invited to a Seasalt fitting thing - they got 8 plus size women of different sizes and heights and made us try on half a dozen or so outfits. They took various photos of fit and wanted honest feedback. It was really interesting.

‘They’ were made up of designers, pattern cutters and seamstresses so all had different view points.

Anyway, a big thing repeated throughout the evening was pockets - everyone was keen on proper pockets Grin. I recently got a Seasalt coat and the pockets are huge - I can fit scarf, hat and gloves in 1 pockets!!

elephantoverthehill · 02/05/2020 11:42

My Dd and I have a phrase we use when clothes shopping 'No pockets, no point'. But I would love to find an unexpected pocket.

zukiecat · 02/05/2020 11:44

I must be the lone voice here, but I don't like pockets on dresses or skirts, I have a lot of dresses and not one has a pocket, I have no need of them as I always carry a bag.

I wouldn't mind if you can't see them, but if a dress or skirt had obvious pockets it would put me off buying it.

andratuttobene · 02/05/2020 11:47

I don’t understand what you are all carrying in these pockets! I actively dislike pockets in dresses. The last thing I want to do is add bulk to the line of a dress, especially at the hips.
