So I’ve realised I’ve been very negative lately and I know a lot of people only go on AIBU and reading through all the threads can get a bit overwhelming. So I wanted to post something happy.

One of the small things that makes me happy is an unexpected pocket in a dress. I mean, I may never use that pocket for anything other than my hands (phone falls out etc) but it still gives me so much glee.

I thought we can share this happiness around either by posting links/pictures of our pocket dresses or, if I am being unreasonable, sharing what other small things make you happy.

I agree OP. A pocket is a wonderful thing, sadly it doesn't seem there are enough of them around

SimpleKindofLife · 02/05/2020 11:50

I love pockets! I work part time in an office normally and I don't get any breaks. It's always a trauma trying to work out how to get tampons and sanitary towels into the toilet!

It's a small office where everyone comments if you're making tea or going to the printer or something, they would defynotice if I took my bag with me each time I went to the loo!

PippaPegg · 02/05/2020 11:54

I had a few pairs of trousers and shorts and skirts in my online basket yesterday. Went back to narrow it down and chose the ones with pockets. It just drives me mad otherwise!

I don't carry a bag at all so in warmer weather when I don't need a coat, I need pockets.
Dungarees are great for pockets, women's jeans not so much.

RightOnTheEdge · 02/05/2020 11:57

annielouisa I love Popsys too and the fact that they have pockets. I've just got into the whole Popsy thing. It's like a cult Grin
I usually live in black jeggings or skinny jeans.

Whatsgoingonrightnow · 02/05/2020 11:58

My DD’s asked me why girls clothing never seems to have pockets and all I could guess is clothing manufacturers expect us to constantly carry a handbag. I really hate lugging a handbag around, much prefer stuffing necessities into a pocket and going.

parrotonmyshoulder · 02/05/2020 12:00

My 10 year old DD has been growing increasingly annoyed about this as she’s got older. She doesn’t want a bag. But she wants stuff with her. Particularly aggrieved by school trousers without pockets or, horror of horrors, FAKE pockets!

tabulahrasa · 02/05/2020 12:01

“I don’t understand what you are all carrying in these pockets!”

Car keys, work keys, credit card and phone usually....

Why would I want to carry a bag when I can have pockets?

Dahlietta · 02/05/2020 12:02

Nothing lighthearted about this. Pockets in women's clothing is a serious feminist issue.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 02/05/2020 12:03

My DH has PJs that have pockets and that annoys me greatly. What could he possibly need to carry whilst in his PJs?!? I, on the other hand, have only a few items of clothing with pockets. It’s just not fair. I nearly bought a wedding dress because it had pockets.

I think women’s pocketless clothes were designed by men so we’d have to carry a bag. My DH never carries a bag and things that won’t fit in his pockets end up in my bag. Hmm I now make him carry the bag! Grin

YessicaHaircut · 02/05/2020 12:05

I love pockets, and finding a surprise one is indeed a joyous moment! Last winter I bought a ski jacket and it has so many pockets, I absolutely love it. My favourite one is a little zipped one in the sleeve near the cuff which I use for my bus ticket or my debit card if I’m going somewhere I need to get the card out quickly without scrabbling about in a bag.

Branster · 02/05/2020 12:07

You can’t put a price on pockets! Love them!
Some clothes only have one pocket (why?), I’d love a nice jumpsuit with proper pockets.

BestIsWest · 02/05/2020 12:14

Just compared pyjamas with DH. Of course his have pockets and mine don’t.

GingerBeverage · 02/05/2020 12:15

Cos is the best for clothes with pockets.

TimeForACheeseSandwich · 02/05/2020 12:23

I found a brilliant underboob pocket in my coat the other day that I had no idea was there! It has a zippy entrance from outside (well, ish - between the main zip and the buttonover flap) that I'd just never seen. Happy times.

I now keep tissues and biscuits in it.

TSSDNCOP · 02/05/2020 12:25

I like a pocket, especially one that I don't expect. I dislike large, square pockets sewn to the front of a garment.

ofwarren · 02/05/2020 12:26

@BestisWest
My mum bought me some pyjamas from the men's section once by accident. The pockets in it are HUGE. Safe to say, these are now my favourite pyjamas. I only have one women's pair with pockets in and they tiny compared to the men's ones.

pissedoffwithprojects · 02/05/2020 12:29

What's the Poppy sizing like? I've never heard of it but checked it out and love a dress but it is sold out in my size. They have the smaller size though.

tabulahrasa · 02/05/2020 12:38

Popsy sizing I find pretty generous, but the waistlines in a real weird place - much higher than it looks, so they’re almost empire line on me... and I’m not that tall.

LunariaAlba · 02/05/2020 12:40

Recently got some men's jeans. Not only very comfortable but the front pockets are huge!

Troels · 02/05/2020 12:48

I love pockets in dresses too, I have a few. Handy for shoving keys in when trying to juggle stuff into the car.
I bought Dd school trousers one year thinking they had pockets, they were fake, she was digusted. So now we get her boys trousers she like lots of pockets.

LittleCandle · 02/05/2020 12:49

One of the wedding dresses DD2 tried on had pockets. She was tempted but her original choice still won out.

EdwynCollins · 02/05/2020 12:53

I rarely buy anything without pockets and I live in dresses. If I like a dress enough I take it to my local sewing shop and get pockets put in

Lizfigs · 02/05/2020 12:54

Yes! I have found quite a few H&M dresses have surprise pockets in them. Most are at a slanted angle though so not overly practical, but still, it's halfway there.
