So I’ve realised I’ve been very negative lately and I know a lot of people only go on AIBU and reading through all the threads can get a bit overwhelming. So I wanted to post something happy.

One of the small things that makes me happy is an unexpected pocket in a dress. I mean, I may never use that pocket for anything other than my hands (phone falls out etc) but it still gives me so much glee.

I thought we can share this happiness around either by posting links/pictures of our pocket dresses or, if I am being unreasonable, sharing what other small things make you happy.

I love unexpected pockets!!! My wedding dress had pockets in. I had a pack of tissues in one pocket and a packet of mini cheddars in the other! Grin

snowybean · 02/05/2020 23:46

Joy states on posters in-store "at least 80% of our dresses have pockets!". That makes me love them even more 😍

TudoBem · 02/05/2020 23:53

The maddest pocketed clothing item has to be men’s swimming trunks. I feel like it’s taking the piss - suck it up women, we even have pockets where they can serve no conceivable purpose!

BestIsWest · 03/05/2020 09:43

Catmagnett I have that Seasalt dress too! Cheered me right up.

God yes pockets. All the Yesses to pockets.

Am in fact trying to work out my most pocketful clothes so when I have to venture into hospital on Monday ok tomorrow but that’s horrifyingly close despite being in shielded group I do not have to take a bag for my phone/inhaler/tissues/EpiPens etc.

Primark quite often do bepocketed pyjamas. Big enough for a phone.

BestIsWest · 03/05/2020 10:47

Good luck Marie

I'm now cutting out pocket shapes to put in my pocketless joggers. Must have pockets for my phone and tissues!

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 03/05/2020 11:44

Pocketless joggers - ugh! Abomination! Just why oh why? I have a few of them (no other choice at the time of purchase) and will go the 'add pockets' route too.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 03/05/2020 11:48

I love pjs with pockets so I can carry phone, iPad, bowl of cereal and coffee into the living room from the kitchen in one trip.

I am easily pleased 😁

LakieLady · 03/05/2020 11:49

My favourite dress is from Seasalt. It's denim, has 3/4 sleeves, and has 2 patch pockets. I often wear it when I'm delivering training, as it means I have somewhere to put my hands, and the remote control for the laptop when I'm writing on the flipchart.

When it's cold I can put a Breton top underneath and a cardigan over the top and wear 60 denier tights and boots or brogues, but it's thin enough to be cool in summer with bare legs and sandals.

I bloody love it and wish I'd bought a second one because I'm going to cry when it wears out.

chipsandgin · 03/05/2020 11:52

Unpopular opinion clearly but I hate pockets - if I love a dress or skirt enough to buy it with pockets I cut them out & sew them shut! My hips are quite voluminous already & I think it ruins the line

Dragonglass · 03/05/2020 12:04

I love pockets. I have a pair of pjs with pockets and they are my favourite pjs. A few dresses from Fat Face have pockets and I recently bought a skirt in Sainsbury's and discovered after I got it home that it had pockets. That made me so happy Smile

UnabashedlyNeurodifferent · 03/05/2020 12:14

@chipsandgin

Yea you better run.

Thank you BestIsWest. Bit terrified (I live somewhere with lots of cases & lots of deaths; & hospital am going to is also in middle of big old hotspot - though fewer deaths at Trust); & also bit cross because is Whole Saga & also Something Someone Should Be Able To Come To Me To Do. On plus side, I get to see my father for first time in weeks as he’s going to drive me.

Apologies for Epic MeRail there Blush

Cath Kidston skirts seem to have pockets. And are available in small sizes. The pyjamas I got from there have pockets too. Possibly Boden is pockety? I have some pockety girlswear from there, anyway, but it is rather ancient now (am v light on my clothes even having very long since passed point of passing them down to people [not counting charity shops]).

On subject Seditious Pockets, when my suffragist great great aunt was arrested she’d a hammer in her coat pocket. Discovered only at the police station. How impressive must those pockets have been?! (I mean, assuming that wasn’t another Convenient Police Lie & they left out it was her one for testing reflexes. [She & her friend were fairly obviously arrested for that heinous offence of Being Irish In A Public Place in early C20 England Hmm ])

TorkTorkBam · 03/05/2020 12:21

I also sew in hidden pockets to skirts and dresses. It is surprisingly easy. Mind you, every time I do it I get the rage that I have to go to the trouble. DH's clothes always have pockets built in for him. Why can't my clothes have them as standard too? It's not like they are difficult to add for the manufacturer.

I sometimes wonder if it is down to clothing store buyers valuing sexiness above all else in women's clothing. Full pockets would "spoil" the line of your hips for the male gaze so are deemed undesirable by those choosing what we are able to buy.

I love Popsys too and the fact that they have pockets. I've just got into the whole Popsy thing. It's like a cult grin

I agree with you about the popsy scene being like a cult. I've had a few dresses and they are nice enough but people go bonkers over them. The Facebook page is mad. Some people have 70 plus popsy dresss! There a few nice patterns but most are pretty niche with dinosaur or unicorn prints or similar. Same about the ones with squirrels, flamingos, hares etc. They look like overgrown toddlers in them!

NightIbble · 03/05/2020 12:35

I love eshakti for this reason, almost always proper big pockets! Also as a short busty girl you can customize to your measurements, as off the peg just looks like a sack on me. I hate not having big enough pockets in trousers as I keep my phone on me at work (retail) and it's constantly falling out!

pigsDOfly · 03/05/2020 12:41

I can really identify with the memes on here.

There's something really pleasing about pockets in a dress, especially a dress with a full skirt.

Don't put anything in them except my hands - think that would spoil the line of the dress - but just love putting my hands into pockets, it makes me feel like twirling.

Oh and I carry a handbag all the time.

IloveJudgeJudy · 03/05/2020 13:02

I definitely agree with a PP saying that pockets are a feminist iss

I have to wear a uniform at work. Men and women the same, apart from the fact that the men's trouser pockets at the front and back are deeper; the back pockets are deep enough to swallow a phone. Mine can just about take the smallest spiral notebook. They also have a pocket on their shirts!

It makes me very angry, especially as we're not allowed bags on the shop floor.
