Just had one and it was brutal!
What's others experiences?

Coldilox · 30/04/2020 17:58

My wife was tested. Said it was like being lobotomised via her nose.

WickedlyPetite · 30/04/2020 17:59

Do tell...

Do they stick it really far up your nose?

Coldilox · 30/04/2020 18:00

Yep, it’s like they’re aiming for the back of the skull!

SauvignonBlanche · 30/04/2020 18:01

I had one yesterday even though I’m asymptotic, as part of a trial, it was horrible, the throat one made me gag but the nasal one was worse.

Kidsaregrim · 30/04/2020 18:01

They swab your throat until you gag and then they use the same swab and put it up your nose which feels a bit like getting water up there. Some places do it twice (not with the same swab)

valentinoandme · 30/04/2020 18:02

If it was brutal, you can be assured that it was done correctly so at least you'll have an accurate result!

loocylocket · 30/04/2020 18:02

They not only scrape the bottom of your brain, they make you wait 5 seconds or so EACH side.
I was swabbed at the back of each side of my throat too so gagged all the way through it too.

Awful Envy

I'm usually a huge wuss and I didn't think it was bad at all. Not exactly pleasant but brutal is not a word I'd have used in a million years.

loocylocket · 30/04/2020 18:05

And it's left me with a constant running nose and banging head!

OP posts:
Mallomarsh · 30/04/2020 18:05

I got rushed into hospital few days ago, still here Sad
In lots of pain but the 'swab' was more like a stick shoved up your nose to your brain as if they were pulling your brain out through your nostril
I cried straight afterwards because I have been so unwell but that tipped me over the edge
Am waiting for the results. I wasn't brought in for covid 19 symptoms x

Slumcat · 30/04/2020 18:21

Yeah I’ve had it, throat swab was fine, they went quite high up, It did make my eyes water but not horrendous by any means

Stinkycatbreath · 30/04/2020 18:23

I had a gastroscopy without sedation. I think a COVID test would be small fries.

loocylocket · 30/04/2020 18:23

Well, I'm usually quiet stoic.....
Maybe it depends on the tester! Hmm

OP posts:
Nquartz · 30/04/2020 18:24

@Mallomarsh hope you're ok & home soon Thanks

cacaca · 30/04/2020 18:26

My husband - he’s not looking forward to being retested in a few weeks time.

Chasingsquirrels · 30/04/2020 18:27

We did our own yesterday, under instruction by the tester, as part of of the Oxford Uni survey.

We were instructed where to swab in our throat, and that it should make us gag. But the the nose swabs (both sides) only needed to be just inside the nostril and swab around it, not to stick it up inside.

Pinksaffire · 30/04/2020 18:28

Yes, I’ve had one as part of routine surveillance at work and it made my eyes water to say the least.

Thewomeninthemirror · 30/04/2020 18:28

My ds, 6 had one a couple of weeks ago.
Well they directed him how to do it with dh help.
He didn’t complain, mainly as he was feeling so rough I think.
It can back negative a few days later.

madcatladyforever · 30/04/2020 18:29

I have a very high pain threshold but even I winced mightily. I wondered if they were trying to swab my brain! !!

BudgieHammockBananaSmuggler · 30/04/2020 18:30

Following on from chasingsquirrels point, I can’t imagine many people who self test will do it correctly as most people are averse to tickling their brains.

Cuddling57 · 30/04/2020 18:39

What were everyone's results?

WoollyMollyMonkey · 30/04/2020 18:40

That’s why I’ve heard the self testing kits are no good (from a GP). The swab needs to be taken really far back in the throat and up the nose, and it would be extremely difficult to do it to yourself.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 30/04/2020 18:45

Same experience as you OP. Awful. Bloody awful.

Had mine on sunday. My nose still hurts from it. And my throat. 🤷

Negative result. Thank fuck.

Mallomarsh · 30/04/2020 18:54

Thank you Nquartz very odd being in hospital during a pandemic.
It was bloody terrible swab even though I am not well at all it still hurt so much!

Stinkycatbreath not sure why you're posting if you haven't had a personal experience.

I don't think anyone is suggesting it's worse than this or that medical procedure it just bloody hurts.
