So the Beeb has to save a bit of cash any suggestions

mine are as follows

Stop sending out news reporters and their crew everywhere to report from ie the coast when there is a gale or outside a hospital when someone important is being treated

Sack Steve Wright who earns £500k a year and his sycophants

Dont broadcast all night stop at 1 am and restart at 530 am

If they did scrap the likes of Lineker, they could narrow down some new choices then let viewers make the final choice. They could even do a paid poll (one for each new presenter etc).

Ibeingbornawomananddistressed · 30/04/2020 12:07

I'd love to know how much a difference it would make to salary bill if they just paid the men the same as the women doing the same job!

DameHannahRelf · 30/04/2020 12:09

Paid poll as in you pay say a £1, to vote by text or online etc.

recrudescence · 30/04/2020 12:11

Nix The One Show. Please.

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 12:12

I think they'd actually get More viewers if they got rid of some of the knobs! 🤣 I automatically switch off if I see certain faces. And with people like Chris Evans and Chris Moyles you would have to pay ME to watch!

KaronAVyrus · 30/04/2020 12:12

I’d rather watch a blank screen than the One Show.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 30/04/2020 12:12

I happened to watch Close Calls on BBC1 this morning (started at 11:45) what a crappy programme and why is Nick Knowles doing the commentary? He’s probably trousering a huge amount! If they need this programme anyone (unknown) with a decent speaking voice, who’s cheaper, could read it out.

These sorts of programmes do my head in they could bin the lot of them - there’s those rip off Britain type ones with Dom someone etc- they start telling you one story, then stop and tell you another, then stop and tell you another. Then they go back to the first one, recap and tell you a bit more then stop, then go on to the next etc etc etc you know the rest. So bloody annoying. Why can’t they just tell the whole thing? Arsehole producers.

CaptainButtock · 30/04/2020 12:17

Stop having children.

TeeBee · 30/04/2020 12:18

Stop paying shit stand-up comedians to develop their own comedy programmes. They are generally beyond utter shit on stage, let alone on TV! For example, Tom Binn's Hospital People. OMG! Even with decent actors in that it was utter drivel.

safariboot · 30/04/2020 12:18

Stop trying to compete with commercial broadcasters and streaming services. Stop thinking viewer numbers are the aim.

BBC News is important. CBBC and CBeebies are important - children's programming free of advertising. Documentaries and investigative journalism are important - look at how something like Blue Planet has boosted awareness of the environment and helped make single-use plastic unacceptable.

Stuff like Strictly? Not so much. Sports coverage is expensive too and there's no need for the BBC to be paying for that.

Pelleas · 30/04/2020 12:19

Two children's channels is excessive - amalgamate them into one.

Salary cap of £100k for staff.

Stop showing programmes like Eastenders multiple times a week - cut down to one or two episodes

Commission work from up and coming writers rather than expensive, famous writers/buying yet another drama from overseas.

Show more grass roots sport instead of expensive premier-league (or equivalent) content.

MamaGothel · 30/04/2020 12:19

Just going to agree with mostly everyone else. These ridiculous inflated salaries to their stars. These people hop on the BBC gravy train and never, ever leave- why? The BBC should showcase up and coming talent.

But don't get rid of Cbeebies. There are so many great, educational shows on there and they must get a good chunk of money back through all of the merchandise.

The BBC needs fresh blood to come in and look dispassionately at everything and see where the cuts should be made. But my first choice would be to scrap the license fee altogether.

derxa · 30/04/2020 12:19

Nix The One Show. Please. Yes. It's patronising shite Also BBC Breakfast. They could have a right old clear out there.

User202004 · 30/04/2020 12:19

Make Mrs Brown go away.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/04/2020 12:19

Get rid of Linekar!!!

Pls don’t touch cbeebies or cbbc- only decent content!

MamaGothel · 30/04/2020 12:22

And stop sending chefs on food tours! BBC funded holidays Hmm I don't need to see some rich bloke sitting in Italy sampling a red wine he could probably buy in Waitrose

chirrupy · 30/04/2020 12:23

Stop being so bloody arrogant...reduce some of the obscene wages, introduce advertising or give people the option to subscribe rather than the horrific, antiquated tv tax. The BBC need to take a long hard look at themselves.

francienolan · 30/04/2020 12:25

When I was in the states we had to wait months and months for all the dramas. Like right now I'm watching Normal People and my mom wants to watch too but it's not on yet. If they offered a charge for an iPlayer subscription I bet they could make a lot.

80sMum · 30/04/2020 12:26

Scrap the licence fee and charge a subscription for i-player instead. Put more content on i-player (admittedly, this bit is already beginning to happen).

WildOrchids67 · 30/04/2020 12:27

Keep Wimbledon and Strictly! I do agree most salaries seem excessive though, they could definitely justify a cut for a lot of presenters.

CountFosco · 30/04/2020 12:27

Reduce all men's salaries to the same level as their female counterparts
Get rid of all sport and soap operas (possibly allowed to keep the Archers) and games shows and cookery competitions and Radio 2.

Kazzyhoward · 30/04/2020 12:30

I think they'd actually get More viewers if they got rid of some of the knobs! 🤣 I automatically switch off if I see certain faces.

I stopped watching BBC Breakfast a few years ago. It's a joke. Just one wannabee sleb newsreader/presenter after another talking to eachother in some weird echo chamber.

It always used to be my morning viewing when it actually had decent presenters, like Dermot Murnaghan, Sophie Raworth, Bill Turnbull, Sian Williams, Jeremy Bohen, etc., but now the current breed are lightweight and vacuous.

EdwinaMay · 30/04/2020 12:30

Keep the radio, cut the TV channels, theres too many

fivesecondrule · 30/04/2020 12:32

PP makes a really good point about the Nick Knowles voice over- why? Why do we need a familiar voice (I'm not actually sure that many people actually like him anyway)- who then gets paid an absolute ransom. I was once asked years ago by the bank I worked for to record a temporary message on their telephone system- they said I had a friendly clear voice, not suggesting for a second I could do TV voiceovers but I'm pretty sure plenty of people could and be paid a decent but not ridiculous wage. It's almost like they try to find the most expensive way of doing things to keep their presenters in work regardless of how it's been funded.

fivesecondrule · 30/04/2020 12:33

@kazzyhoward I reckon BBC Breakfast only get viewers because people can't bear what's on the 'other side'.
