So the Beeb has to save a bit of cash any suggestions

mine are as follows

Stop sending out news reporters and their crew everywhere to report from ie the coast when there is a gale or outside a hospital when someone important is being treated

Sack Steve Wright who earns £500k a year and his sycophants

Dont broadcast all night stop at 1 am and restart at 530 am

OP posts:

Stop doing projects like this www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-49481210 not your remit BBC.

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 11:27

Not just BBC nowadays but on bake off, sewing bee, pottery throw down etc why do they feel it necessary to have the presenter go round to each contestant and make twatty unfunny comments. Its literally all the same. I'm really grateful for Netflix. It's shaken up the monopoly hopefully changes will come about.

Gooigi · 30/04/2020 11:28

I just hope the don't use this as an excuse to implement that terrible internet levy idea.

thejollygargler · 30/04/2020 11:28

Allow people who live abroad the option of paying a licence fee in order to have access to iplayer.

KaronAVyrus · 30/04/2020 11:35

Close the bbc news channel. We don’t need news 24/7. We really don’t.

Close BBC Scotland. Expensive with beyond dire viewing figures. It really is abysmal (and before anyone starts I’m Scottish and live in Scotland)

Get rid of Gary Linekar. I’m sure Sky or BT sports will match his wage 🙄.

Steve Wright could easily be replaced with someone on £100k.

Lowhum · 30/04/2020 11:36

Axe BBC Four and place all factual / documentaries on BBC Two. Keep news / gameshows / reality on BBC One.

Please keep CBeebies!

Create a subscription for outside UK.

Bring back shows like The Generation Game and have more emphasis on family TV rather than paying celebrities to host shows like The Greatest Dancer.

Allnamesaregone · 30/04/2020 11:36

Scrap the licence and make it a subscription service for those who choose to watch

00100001 · 30/04/2020 11:37

Get rid of BBC 3 be BBC 4.

Cut the crap out if BBC1 AND BBC2, replace with the good stuff from 3 and 4

Lowhum · 30/04/2020 11:38

Forgot about Strictly...keep that!

MrsOrMiss · 30/04/2020 11:40

The BBC world news has adverts - Rolex, Jaguar, Cartier - why can't the rest of the BBC?

Keep Doctors, it's the only soap I watch!

Ditch the celebs telling stories, the supposed 'target' audience have no clue who they are anyway.

KaronAVyrus · 30/04/2020 11:40

Lowhum. Good idea about getting rid of BBC4. Put their good programmes on BBC1&2 and have a cull of all the crap. There are far too many cooking programmes, quizzes, antique and property programmes on. The sheer level of dross that the BBC pump out is unbelievable.

pallasathena · 30/04/2020 11:40

Re-read its original charter and go back to basics by banning celebrities, airheads and news programmes that are right of Genghis Khan.
That should do it.

Abreadsandwich · 30/04/2020 11:42

Stop sending out news reporters and their crew everywhere to report from ie the coast when there is a gale or outside a hospital when someone important is being treated

This is one of my pet hates.

  • Something happens politically during the day. They go to a reporter during the 9pm news standing outside downing street in rain and the dark. Erm what value are they adding when there is nothing of importance to see live.
Same when Bojo was in hospital. We knew he was in ICU. They couldnt film inside. What difference does it make that they do all their reports standing outside A and E at St Thomas's. Same with any Royal news they go "live" to Buckingham palace....as if we might see anything different if they're actually there. Spoiler. We wont.
Bigsighall · 30/04/2020 11:45

Most of the above. And get rid of 6 music. What a pile of shite.

ravenmum · 30/04/2020 11:45

Yes please, IPlayer or at least some of the modern BBC stuff on a paid app for my Fire stick. Not just Jonathan Creek and Little Britain.

ravenmum · 30/04/2020 11:45

*abroad

greathat · 30/04/2020 11:47

Has Charlie left casualty now? I thought (hoped) he had.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 30/04/2020 11:50

I got annoyed at the BBC when they sent MR Maker around the world. Must have cost a bomb and all he did was a few minutes making shite in a random country. Could have done the same thing for 1/4 the cost and a green screen.

Probably Save a fortune not sending letters out to millions of people that don't want a license, but that's more Capitas fault than the BBC. Policing the license costs loads tho so scrap it, go advert supported or subscription based.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 30/04/2020 11:55

Cut salaries of front of screen “talent”. Seriously hoping that the pp saying Charlie from Casualty earns £400k was joking or that is obscene.

I remember when Chris Moyles got paid £500k a year for 10hours on mic work a week, when he did breakfast show. That's many years ago now, so I can totally believe people are paid obscene amounts these days.

dottiedodah · 30/04/2020 12:01

LellyMckelly I thought Jonathan Ross is on ITV now?! I like Wimbledon but it is probably costing a fortune ,maybe just televise the main games.Gary Lineker is a nice guy but why is he paid so much ?

Calyx72 · 30/04/2020 12:02

Get them all on normal level salaries. That's it. I agree with most of these suggestions.

DameHannahRelf · 30/04/2020 12:03

I agree, scrap all the c list celebs who're earning more than brain surgeons and barristers.

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 30/04/2020 12:04

Gary Lineker is a nice guy but why is he paid so much ?

Reports last year reveled Linear gets £1.7million. Graham Norton, Paid via a production company, got £3.6million.

BBC don't have to report salaries paid via production companies, production companies often owned by the on screen talent, they only have to report salaries paid direct to the "stars"

tenlittlecygnets · 30/04/2020 12:06

Cut ridiculous salaries!

Look at this list! www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48839428

Gary Lineker - £1,750,000-£1,754,999
Chris Evans - £1,250,000-£1,254,999
Graham Norton - £610,000-£614,999
Huw Edwards - £490,000-£494,999
Steve Wright - £465,000-£469,999
Alan Shearer - £440,000-£444,999
Andrew Marr - £390,000-£394,999
Claudia Winkleman - £370,000-£374,999
Zoe Ball - £370,000-£374,999
Jason Mohammad - £355,000-£359,999
(At least he works for his money: Final Score, Radio 5 Live, Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday, Radio Wales, snooker, Commonwealth Games, World Cup)
Vanessa Feltz - £355,000-£359,999
Nicky Campbell - £340,000-£345,999

Abreadsandwich · 30/04/2020 12:07

Bloody hell I've just read an article that says the BBC spent £34mil on taxis in 3 years! That'd be a start right there.
I read about a news reader getting a cab for a stupidly short and probably pointless journey and was appalled at the waste/carbon footprint without considering the cost.
I am always really annoyed at The Apprentice when they send about 5 cars to "the house" (they could probably save 25k rent on that as well) when there are only 6 candidates. And use the cars for tasks around London when it would be blatantly be cheaper, quicker and easier to use public transport, walk or use Boris Bikes. And they could also cut the trips abroad too. Why inflict such idiots on people who are on holiday in South Africa who get duped into paying a weeks wages for a 2 hour cringe fest by the apprentice candidates!
