So the Beeb has to save a bit of cash any suggestions

mine are as follows

Stop sending out news reporters and their crew everywhere to report from ie the coast when there is a gale or outside a hospital when someone important is being treated

Sack Steve Wright who earns £500k a year and his sycophants

Dont broadcast all night stop at 1 am and restart at 530 am

OP posts:
awaynboilyurheid · 30/04/2020 11:06

Stop celebs and their mums seriously its so not funny Ramesh Ranganethan et al

Kazzyhoward · 30/04/2020 11:08

The other thing with the BBC news is that they hardly ever interview anyone other than their own staff on the News. It's always the main anchor talking to their "political correspondent" or their "health editor" etc. Compare that with the likes of ITV and Sky who actually interview someone else, i.e. an external expert.

VenusOfWillendorf · 30/04/2020 11:09

Allow me to pay for iPlayer (I’m outside U.K.) which I would be delighted to do.

This.

brassbrass · 30/04/2020 11:10

So you're ok with inflated salaries for the men because you don't deem them to be as attention seeking?

ironicname · 30/04/2020 11:11

Get rid of Steve Wright.

Cut all male salaries to match their female colleagues.

boringrobot · 30/04/2020 11:12

Cap all pay at minimum wage Grin.

fivesecondrule · 30/04/2020 11:14

Bloody hell I've just read an article that says the BBC spent £34mil on taxis in 3 years! That'd be a start right there.

100Intheyear2020 · 30/04/2020 11:14

493 BBC staff covered Beijing Olympics, 437 were flown to China

2019 highest paid, top 10
More than the Prime Minister
Much more than the average National salary
Gary Lineker
Chris Evans
Graham Norton
Huw Edwards
Steve Wright
Alan Shearer
Andrew Marr
Claudia Winkleman
Zoe Ball
Vanessa Feltz

FreeKitties · 30/04/2020 11:15

It's got to be wages - I completely agree with the poster who said if the famous faces don't like it then let them go, the BBC needs to concentrate on quality programming- if the shows are good they shouldn't need to draw us in with celebrities, just use good not famous presenters/actors/etc

And ditch strictly et al, it's bloody shite, bring back some good drama or comedy to watch on a Saturday.

PuppyMonkey · 30/04/2020 11:15

There are so many annoying repetitive promos on both BBC TV and BBC radio for BBC shows/podcasts/BBC Sounds - we might as well just have normal adverts in those spots that companies pay money for and the Beeb could generate income.

allmycats · 30/04/2020 11:16

Cut all the extra hanger on experts at all sporting events. A commentator and a multi events coach can do the job, we do not need ex players and ex athletes etc. Also, just show the sports happening in the stadiums instead of talking to people about what has just happened.

GetawayfromthatWelshtart · 30/04/2020 11:16

Scrap Dr Who for a start. Was excellent, now a puddle of political correctness gone wrong.

They need to have a cold hard look at what they produce. If something starts to do poorly or has low ratings then stop making it. Don't keep it going for another 2 or 3 seasons just because you are the BBC.

Cap the wages... or make it performance based... if you are crap/ excess complaints your pay gets docked...

Sports... do we need so many commentators? Same with when they have multiple presenters on other shows.. do we need them all? Can a show be done with one? Two max?

Most prob more but I just wish they'd go to pay as you go. Plus most of the decent stuff you from the BBC you can get from other streaming services these days.

Selfsettling3 · 30/04/2020 11:18

Definitely keep ceebies and all the ceebies app. I would happily play for more for these but not everyone has the money needed. The programmes are much better quality and actually teach kids things rather than general cartoon crap with lots of adverts in between.

loobyloo1234 · 30/04/2020 11:18

Get each DJ on the radio stations to report the news and weather - don't need additional people to do a 5 minute segment

Get rid of unfunny comedies - Mrs Browns Boys. Miranda etc

Cut the salaries of people that are only on once a week - Gary Linekar etc

I would stop paying my TV licence if they got rid of Sports altogether though, as would many more, so thats not a great idea

mummmy2017 · 30/04/2020 11:18

Just think BBC are not losing advertising revenue, unlike say ITV.
I have been using my chrome cast as TV won't pick up signal.
Must say I love the no crap shows watched angle.

LaurieMarlow · 30/04/2020 11:18

And ditch strictly et al, it's bloody shite

Why would they ditch one of their most watched shows? Confused

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2020 11:19

I would be sad to see Strictly go to be honest but they could get some new presenters in. And ditch a judge or two.

GetUpAgain · 30/04/2020 11:19

Put Naga Munchetty in charge of it all. She's intelligent, ethical and understands people. She'd sort it in a day.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 30/04/2020 11:22

I’m with you on reporters standing outside hospitals, and Steve Wright OP but surely you must realise that not everyone wakes and works for the same hours you do and that 24 hour programming is a godsend to many.
CBBC and CBeebies are vital and I very much doubt that they’re paying the likes of Tom Hardy a Hollywood salary to read the bedtime story - so it gives a huge publicity boost to a programme that’s a real public service for very little outlay.

I wonder what the sums are on Strictly income vs expenditure?

Cyllie33 · 30/04/2020 11:23

smoggles

But does having them stand outside a hospital, or in front of a closed road add anything of value? Anything at all?

That’s a point others made up thread. It’s not the one I was responding to....

I agree in part with that - possibly there are times it does though when being ‘at the scene’ is because the reporter has been speaking to people at that location

DianaT1969 · 30/04/2020 11:26

I read that the pay £58 million per year to Capita. Capita send out junk mail letters for licence renewals and threatening letters to households and businesses who don't buy a licence. Drop Capita. Don't send 10 threatening letters a year to households and businesses who don't want a licence. Not everyone wants to watch live TV or use iPlayer.
Accept that and either go to a subscription model, or switch to digital reminders for annual renewals .

Riddikulusness · 30/04/2020 11:26

Stop paying for Hollywood movies. Only show BBC made/collaborated stuff

Bartlet · 30/04/2020 11:26

Ditch all their reality showbizzy talent shows except Strictly which actually differentiates from the others.

Never buy formats from abroad. It was crazy that the Voice was originally on BBC.

Cut salaries of front of screen “talent”. Seriously hoping that the pp saying Charlie from Casualty earns £400k was joking or that is obscene.

Cut back on jollies for staff dressed up as value-add coverage - world cups, Glastonbury etc don’t need hundreds of staff attending.
