So the Beeb has to save a bit of cash any suggestions

mine are as follows

Stop sending out news reporters and their crew everywhere to report from ie the coast when there is a gale or outside a hospital when someone important is being treated

Sack Steve Wright who earns £500k a year and his sycophants

Dont broadcast all night stop at 1 am and restart at 530 am

OP posts:

Get Captain (now Major) Tom to raise the money for them!

ViciousJackdaw · 30/04/2020 12:39

We all have different ideas about valuable content, I've no use for CBBC but wouldn't scrap it as other people enjoy it. Same with soaps and sports - millions of people enjoy them so it's not for me to say 'get rid of tennis'. Product placement perhaps?

AdaColeman · 30/04/2020 12:39

Oh no! Tom's a Colonel now.

ScorpionQueen · 30/04/2020 12:40

Not sending everyone to Glastonbury should save a few quid this year.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 30/04/2020 12:40

Id love to pay to see sewing bee! Right now I cant - outside uk.

CountFosco · 30/04/2020 12:43

Gary Lineker - £1,750,000-£1,754,999
Chris Evans - £1,250,000-£1,254,999

What do these two even do? Graham Norton is admittedly a very skilled and experienced presenter but so are Claudia Winkleman and Zoe Ball and they are on half his salary (and where is Tess?).

Cbeebies and cbbc are vital services and it is important to keep them separate, there are 12 rated dramas on cbbc (e.g. Wolfblood).

Elephantgrey · 30/04/2020 12:44

What on earth does Vanessa Feltz get paid £355 million for ? I haven’t seen her in years! I don’t have anything against her but I am at a loss to think of what she does.

Most of the people on the high paid list could be paid less. No one is worth that amount of money. £125 million is small potatoes when you look at the top salary bill.

They should keep CBeebies and all the wildlife programs. Anything with David Attenborough I will watch. There is a lot of good things they do.

I did laugh reading about the new reporters standing out in the cold. We had a running joke that whenever there is a storm they send the most junior reporter to stand out in it. They do need more than one reporter though they have to find out the news not just present it.

YeahWhatevver · 30/04/2020 12:45

Get rid of sport

Pelleas · 30/04/2020 12:46

Cbeebies and cbbc are vital services

Vital services? So how did we manage before the advent of digital TV when children's programming was limited to a couple of slots a day on the main BBC channels?

The BBC needs to cut duplication - get rid of multiple programmes during the week for the same series, and duplicate channels that serve a similar but limited audience - i.e. two children's channels.

LEELULUMPKIN · 30/04/2020 12:46

Another vote for getting rid of Lineker but I would also like to include Stacey Dooley.

That voice!

LEELULUMPKIN · 30/04/2020 12:47

Oh and Tess Daley.

MsPepperPotts · 30/04/2020 12:48

It's as badly run as the NHS with the main executives making sure they pay themselves millions.
They can sort their own mess out the bunch of greedy morons.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2020 12:49

I have never understood how Tess Daly got the SCD job in the first place. She is not a natural presenter at all.

LEELULUMPKIN · 30/04/2020 12:50

I forgot Greg Wallace. He can shuffle off back to his veg stall.

YeahWhatevver · 30/04/2020 12:51

People justify the huge salaries because the presenter is "world class" / "a the top of their game" and talk of a pay cut would just make them leave.

Pretty sure someone on 1/5th the salary is going to do more than 20% of the job. And for the relatively few presenting jobs on the BBC I imagine they'd not be stuck for new young talent.

Problem seems to be rooted in the notion that it's the presenter that the public are tuning in to see, not the content!

ElaineMarieBenes · 30/04/2020 12:51

Another one living overseas who would happily pay for iPlayer!

Oxyiz · 30/04/2020 12:52

I've only just realised thanks to this thread that we are forced to pay hard earned money every year to prop up the state's propaganda machine - which we never watch or engage with as we just use Netflix and Amazon Prime.

And they spend how fucking much on nonsense like taxis?

What the fuck.

sluj · 30/04/2020 12:52

Get rid of services aimed at non licence payers, eg World Service, BBC India, BBC America etc etc
I'm sure they have their own services.

Notso · 30/04/2020 12:52

Stop sending Jo Whiley et al to smug around Glastonbury. All they ever do is cut through the footage of a decent set to give fawning interviews.

poorbuthappy · 30/04/2020 12:53

I'd like to see a list of subsidised perks that working for BBC allows you access to. Then I'd start there.

PolloDePrimavera · 30/04/2020 12:54

I'm struggling to compute Steve Wright earning that much. Just put three hours of music on with the news every hour.

Theeighthelephant · 30/04/2020 12:56

Close BBC Scotland. Expensive with beyond dire viewing figures. It really is abysmal (and before anyone starts I’m Scottish and live in Scotland)

So do I and I like having local content, thanks.

Kazzyhoward · 30/04/2020 12:57

PP makes a really good point about the Nick Knowles voice over- why? Why do we need a familiar voice (I'm not actually sure that many people actually like him anyway)- who then gets paid an absolute ransom. I was once asked years ago by the bank I worked for to record a temporary message on their telephone system- they said I had a friendly clear voice, not suggesting for a second I could do TV voiceovers but I'm pretty sure plenty of people could and be paid a decent but not ridiculous wage. It's almost like they try to find the most expensive way of doing things to keep their presenters in work regardless of how it's been funded.

Like the way they made out Eric Sykes was starring in Teletubbies - he said one word in a funny voice - that was it. Just why the fuss??

LakieLady · 30/04/2020 13:00

Get rid of the "newsreaders" who think & act like they're celebrities and want silly money for doing so. Fiona Bruce, Laura Kuenssberg, Steph Mc Govern, Naga, etc

I'd get rid of some of the dire male presenters before any of those 4. The likes of Nick Knowles, Dom Littlewood, Mike Bushell, Dan "I love myself" Walker, Matt Baker - there are so many of them.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 30/04/2020 13:02

Sack every journalist with the word "identity" in their job title. Stop wasting money writing mysogynistic trash articles like "how I make £20k a month as a cam girl" and "why I'm a men's rights activist".
