Aibu regarding Fleetwood Mac

This is terribly trivial, I am aware.
I was watching Peter Kay's Car Share and there was a part where Peter Kay's character said that the Fleetwood Mac version of Dreams was better than The Coors version. This is one of my all time favourite songs and personally think The Coors butchered it, however my sister said The Coors version is better.
AIBU to say Fleetwood Mac's original is far better than The Coors version.

If I feel like wasting my time working on replicating Buckingham I might, but have my own songs to work on.

Well, the floor is yours, from Motown ....

SomethingOnce · 02/05/2020 17:52

This is terribly trivial, I am aware.

Au contraire, OP, this matters a great deal Grin

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 17:58

Ok, Rosesetti...want a hootenanny thread? I'll enjoy enjoy hearing your version too! What kinda guitar do you have? Followed by a bit of diamonds and rust and perhaps queen of the pickers Elizabeth Cotten's freight train?

I'm nobody, I just love to play and write songs. I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in Patti smiths cowboy boots and say Lindsay is inferior to Peter Green any day.

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 18:05

Lindsey has one advantage in that he's stuck around. A quite big advantage given the curse of FM's many guitarists Grin

everythingbackbutyou · 02/05/2020 18:52

@DetroitTheTourist, you are Wrong Grin

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 18:58

Happy to call subjectivity on the whole mess.

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 19:09

...and picking meaning the technique of plucking individual strings as opposed to strumming. Finger picking is nothing particularly impressive. Elizabeth Cotten did it better.

everythingbackbutyou · 02/05/2020 19:11

@DetroitTheTourist, it's a deal

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 19:17

Ohhhh weeellll

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/05/2020 19:28

Just fantastic
Love he fill version
And Danny he looks so lost in the music when playing - very overlooked his guitar playing was beautiful

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/05/2020 19:29
  • the full version
DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 19:35

Danny played so beautifully. What happened to him cut out of the money, homeless...it was so sad.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/05/2020 19:41

It was.

From what I have read his mental health was always fragile then of course there is the lsd that apparently he and others took that had a long lasting impact

Though I really like Mystery To Me and love Rumours albums I don’t think of them as being true Fleetwood Mac just very good soft rock/pop music but nothing on the brilliance of the first years

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 20:23

I still think Danny should have got a far greater share of the pie, but yes, I read somewhere he really suffered badly. Poor beautiful talented boy. I feel bad gossiping about him!

I'm glad to hear someone else prefers the original blues Mac to the Buckingham/Nicks soft rock.

wetpants · 02/05/2020 20:30

lovemysituation I love the Youtube concert clip of Big Love so much. I’m glad you’ve shared it here!

Just him and the guitar, nowhere to hide. Just amazing.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/05/2020 20:42

I agree Detroit he was robbed

There is quite a few of us about 😁 I never quite understand the Stevie Nicks worship

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 21:00

Total hack. Overactor. Ham. Buckingham makes me feel nauseous to watch.

Here's some real good fingerpicking.

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 21:16

OK, I get it. You really hate him Detroit Grin I happen to love both incarnations. Indeed sometimes I've even seen Lindsey playing Oh Well', and Manalishi!! blasphemyWink
Wetpants you're welcome at least some of us appreciate him

saints37 · 02/05/2020 21:17

Trivial yes but the OP is not unreasonable.

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 21:22

Stop. Stop. Lindsay did what now!? No. Just no. Did Nick's wave a tambourine around? Who did he get to play the second guitar part? Tell me it was something good....Steve Vai might amuse me.

I'm out. You win.

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 21:30

Relax, I don't think he's done it recently Grin
No extra guitarist. He does it all as ever
I can put it up if you'd like to seeWink

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/05/2020 21:33

She is amazing I had never heard of Elizabeth Cotton

My friend gets very annoyed when Stevie Nicks is mentioned as being part of Fleetwood Mac 😁 he won’t accept it

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 21:34

I found it. Bloodless, vapid, empty. And that tambourine. No no no. At least Hendrix came on my radio to ease the pain.

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 21:39

I'm so glad you enjoyed Elizabeth cotten. I tried flipping my guitar upside down and back to front she played left handed on an upside down right handed guitar, the high e string on top. It failed. She's my guitar Shero. Freight train, babe it ain't no lie,
shake sugeree theyy were not grateful dead songs. Stolen from Libby without giving her due credit for what was hers. She was very badly treated imo, even by the Seager folk clan.

Your friend sounds very sensible.

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 21:41

Stevie's always off stage er doing something in the ones I've seen Grin
