Aibu regarding Fleetwood Mac

This is terribly trivial, I am aware.
I was watching Peter Kay's Car Share and there was a part where Peter Kay's character said that the Fleetwood Mac version of Dreams was better than The Coors version. This is one of my all time favourite songs and personally think The Coors butchered it, however my sister said The Coors version is better.
AIBU to say Fleetwood Mac's original is far better than The Coors version.

Peter Green is probably the best blues guitarist Britain has ever produced
God yes. Oh Well is a masterpiece. Never dates.

I wish I was Stevie Nicks now, living in the Californian hills with her cats and her Coven of friends, hanging out drinking wine with her BFF Harry Styles. He did a great introduction for her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ( first woman ever i think) and when she got on stage she went on and on for hours. It was hilarious but she was likeable.

DH loves his Northern Soul so when someone mentioned Soft Cell before it reminded me of how much he hates their version of Tainted Love.

Worse one recently was bloody Ellie Golding doing a poor imitation of Joni Mitchell with River. What was she thinking? ? Added nothing to the original whatsoever. The nerve! Hmm

Oh Well is a masterpiece. Never dates.

And inspired Led Zeppelins Black Dog

DetroitTheTourist · 30/04/2020 15:42

Ah, Fencer, the black forest German incident with the occultists and the acid, Peter and Danny were both very damaged by that trip apparently. I love Danny too. He had a very tough time post Mac.

HopeClearwater · 30/04/2020 15:43

the talentless Christine McVie

That’s fighting talk! Grin

DetroitTheTourist · 30/04/2020 15:49

To be fair mcvie is pretty boring.

mastertomsmum · 30/04/2020 15:51

Cover versions only really work of the original sucks or was lightweight. The exception to prove the rule - as far as I’m concerned - is the Coldplay version of 2000 Miles. It shouldn’t work but it does.

Proving the rule example - Heartbeats by Jose Gonzales over the original which is way what ???

DGRossetti · 30/04/2020 16:01

Cover versions only really work of the original sucks or was lightweight.

Or if they bring something else to the party ? Some of the artists mentioned here must have done so many different versions of the same song as a live performance (no two Led Zeppelin shows were ever the same for example). And just off the top of my head, Bowie did some amazing versions of his back catalogue for the BBC (maybe on Jools Holland ?) a few years back with an incredibly slowed down "Rebel Rebel".

DetroitTheTourist · 30/04/2020 16:15

Disproving the rule...Dylan's all along the watchtower didn't suck and was not lighyweight. Hendrix redefined that song.

Jux · 30/04/2020 16:39

I love Dylan's rendition of All Along The Watchtower (dh will disown me know due to his worship of Hendrix) Grin

Brefugee · 30/04/2020 20:43

Oh i've just remembered another cover better than the original: Gun's rendition of Word Up. It's amazing

bringbacksideburns · 30/04/2020 21:24

There have been some great cover versions of Beatles songs.
Stevie Wonder's We can work it out for example.

That super strength LSD helped ruin quite a few minds back then. Syd Barrett used to take a trip every day allegedly - no wonder he could barely function by the end!

Pedallleur · 30/04/2020 21:43

Fleetwood Mac of course. Eva Cassidy did a stunning cover of Fields of Gold tho.

DetroitTheTourist · 30/04/2020 21:56

Poor Syd...tattered his brain all the way. He knew it, if you listen to dark glowbe.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 01/05/2020 07:48

I think some covers are great some singers/bands make it a completely different song. Jazz songs are so often covers

And example of a great cover Fleetwood Mac Need Your Love So Bad

m.youtube.com/watch?v=RtmW2ek7WkQ

The years that FM were at their best before they became a progressive soft rock American band

And Danny Kirwin’s best song it’s just beautiful - Dragonfly

Susan1961 · 01/05/2020 14:15

Mac, you can't improve on perfection.

everythingbackbutyou · 02/05/2020 10:02

@DetroitTheTourist, LindsEy Buckingham is an amazing guitarist/singer

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 13:24

Subjectivity I guess. I think he's flashy but not a great guitarist. Singer, i really don't rate him.

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 14:31

Everytime FM need to replace Lindsey, they need two guitarists. He can also do this

DGRossetti · 02/05/2020 16:56

not a great guitarist

Hmm

"Never going back again" isn't exactly grade 1 ...

(Also a nice peek at Fleetwoods feel for the groove there if you look/listen closely).

Playing it is impressive enough - but singing too ...

I'm not a massive FM fan, but you really need to give credit where it's due.

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 17:01

That is actually not particularly impressive. Fast picking, acoustic shredding, in repetitive chord patterns. Sounds good or at least impressive to non guitarists. It's actually not that hard to replicate.

He's a ham, that's all. As for two guitarists, lol! Is that what the prima Donna is demanding!

Green manalishi, now that's skill!

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 17:30

No, she already got who she always wanted in place of Lindsey, but they always need another one. Happened in 1987 and happened currently

LoveMySituation · 02/05/2020 17:33

He doesn't use a pick Detroit. So much harder not to use one

DGRossetti · 02/05/2020 17:34

Post your version, and we can all judge ... meanwhile, hope some can enjoy the master here ...

DetroitTheTourist · 02/05/2020 17:39

If I feel like wasting my time working on replicating Buckingham I might, but have my own songs to work on. I can't stand Lindsay.

june2007 · 02/05/2020 17:41

Fleetwood Mac every time. But if not available I will take the Corrs.
