To think I can get ripped in 6 weeks?

Long story short - about 20-30 pounds overweight (depending on whether you trust BMIs or not). I’ve spent the last 3 weeks absolutely smashing exercise like never before, following videos, lifting weights, generally quite high intensity stuff - 5 days on, 2 days of doing yoga as rest days.

Also eating a whole lot better, like half what I’d normally gorge on (mainly ate out of boredom, not hunger), and focusing on clean foods, high protein, etc.

I have 6 weeks left of isolation I reckon (live with someone who is shielding). I want to walk out the front door for the first time looking like a Victoria’s Secret Model. But is it actually possible to get ripped in 6 weeks when you started as a fat slug?

YANBU - smash it, she-hulk
YABU - you’re gonna leave isolation still a fatty

YANBU

Browntile · 27/04/2020 21:54

PS Well done! I am becoming increasingly slovenly in isolation!

TheMandalorian · 27/04/2020 21:54

Sounds like you're on the right track.

Bluebooby · 27/04/2020 21:55

Yanbu and well done.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 21:58

Thanks Blush I don’t know what’s come over me. I actually miss exercise on my rest days. If you knew me you’d actually LOL if I told you this IRL as I’m the laziest human out there. I haven’t told anyone other than those I live with what I’m doing - want to see some shocked faces when I finally get to see friends/colleagues again haha

YANBU, you're going to look and feel amazing, keep going!

(I've been trying to do the same but my DP bought a ton of reduced easter eggs...)

CodenameVillanelle · 27/04/2020 21:59

Well, you're doing amazingly well so far and no doubt you will look different (did you take underwear photos at the start? It's vital) but you won't get life changing results in 6 weeks. However if you're going to carry on doing this in the long run you will be totally ripped by the autumn I reckon

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 22:00

Also, any advice from anyone who does this on the regular would be amazing. This is all very new to me and I’m just hoping I’m doing it ‘right’

I wish I had your drive!
I’m not overweight but want to come out toned.

ChipotleBlessing · 27/04/2020 22:01

I think you can look brilliant and make a huge difference. For that actual ‘ripped’, defined muscles, look you need fairly low body fat, which would be difficult to achieve in six weeks while still building muscle. You don’t need that look to look brilliant though!

Poptart4 · 27/04/2020 22:01

Absolutely go for it! Even if your not ripped in 6 weeks, you'll be well on your way.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 22:01

@CodenameVillanelle - amazing username. Yeah, I did wonder if 6 weeks was pushing it a bit... I just want some kind of tummy definition Grin

I’m also doing more exercise in lockdown than ever before. I normally run a couple of times a week, more if I’m training for an event but that’s about all.

I’m doing HIIT 3 times a week, running 3 times and have a daily challenge. Last week was 10k steps every day and this week I’m doing 100 squats a day.

DD keeps telling me I’m going to be ‘hench’ which I assume is a good thing Grin

Go for it... it’s keeping my mind focused on positive stuff.

HermioneWeasley · 27/04/2020 22:02

What you’re doing is brilliant- keep going

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 22:03

I think that’s what it is @BabbleBee. I seem to feel on top of the world post exercise compared to how I feel later on when reality hits and I remember the shit show we’re living in. I think that’s my biggest motivator at the moment, just that buzz after exercise

You can make a big difference in 6 weeks and put in place habits to continue the good work once lock down is over.

Puds11 · 27/04/2020 22:05

I don’t think it matters if you come out ripped or not. You’ll come out healthier, focus on that.

PippaPegg · 27/04/2020 22:05

Howwwwww! Amazing OP. I'm just getting fatter!

CodenameVillanelle · 27/04/2020 22:06

I totally get the exercise buzz! I got a PT before Christmas and found it hard but before I knew it I was in the gym 3 days a week - since lockdown we have been training over Skype and I'm now getting up at 6 am 4 days a week plus a workout at the weekend...I will miss it when life goes back to normal!

Igottastartthinkingbee · 27/04/2020 22:07

Well done OP. My advice would be to make sure you increase intensity or duration (never both) gradually and stretch! Injury can kill motivation in a heartbeat.

LostandLockeddown · 27/04/2020 22:09

I am loving your post @DrierThanANunsNasty! You made me smile but also total respect for having the balls. I'm doing yoga with adriene and I have such hang ups about exercise. Wish I could throw myself into it and believe like you. You rock!

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 22:10

That’s a huge worry of mine too @CodenameVillanelle. When life goes back to normal and I have a huge commute and 12 hour days, will I slip into my old ways? I hope not!

@PippaPegg I sifted through what felt like hundreds of YouTube videos and social media accounts. Some celebs and PTs are doing free workouts everyday on social media. I also made a huge playlist of tons of different exercise videos I liked the look of on YouTube so I can mix it up everyday.

Have you seen insanity?? I did it for 35 days a few years ago and people noticed the difference. I threw up the first time and cried at least 3 though.

I did the beach body one.

You have inspired me to get the discs out. I'll need a swear box though. I bet you can get them on eBay for not much. There are you tube videos of other people doing them as well.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 22:16

Throwing up and crying? Sounds like more of a night out than a workout, haha. I’ll see if I can find them, thank you @winterisstillcoming
