To think I can get ripped in 6 weeks?

DrierThanANunsNasty · 27/04/2020 21:52

Long story short - about 20-30 pounds overweight (depending on whether you trust BMIs or not). I’ve spent the last 3 weeks absolutely smashing exercise like never before, following videos, lifting weights, generally quite high intensity stuff - 5 days on, 2 days of doing yoga as rest days.

Also eating a whole lot better, like half what I’d normally gorge on (mainly ate out of boredom, not hunger), and focusing on clean foods, high protein, etc.

I have 6 weeks left of isolation I reckon (live with someone who is shielding). I want to walk out the front door for the first time looking like a Victoria’s Secret Model. But is it actually possible to get ripped in 6 weeks when you started as a fat slug?

YANBU - smash it, she-hulk
YABU - you’re gonna leave isolation still a fatty

The exercise will help to tone the fat you have as you decrease your body size.

I expect you meant tone the muscle you have? Because you can't tone fat :)

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 28/04/2020 07:11

Gwan yer self OP.

I’m in the same boat. We’re getting married next year so I need to shift this fat. I follow jordyn trenholm on TikTok and am doing one of her 20 day challenges just now (it must work, the DOMS are like nothing I’ve ever felt before!) I also power walk 5k every second day.

I’m also shielding so in until end of June. I walk at 6/7am when no one is out and in a rural area where I don’t need to touch anything! Took a while on google maps to find such a route but I got it 😂

Bulletproof frothy coffee keeps me going 🙌🏻 Heading out now, enjoy your workout!

I have got my old Jillian Michael's DVDs out. Currently doing ripped in 30 - so Jillian definitely thinks it's achievable in less than 6 weeks.

My original 30 day shred DVD is scratched so I think I might order a new one to do after I have finished these. Good old Jillian!!

"You don't get these abs for free!"

billy1966 · 28/04/2020 07:14

@CodenameVillanelle
Definitely 👍

DreamingofSunshine · 28/04/2020 07:24

@BalloonSlayer you might be interested in her app which has all her dvds on it, plus lots of other workouts and you can customise your own- so if you tell it you want 25 minutes of beginner abs or a 20 min full body workout.

@DrierThanANunsNasty you have really cheered me up and given me some motivation to get moving!

PippaPegg · 28/04/2020 08:16

@DrierThanANunsNasty getting a buzz must be the key.. I hate being sweaty and usually stop when I feel it starting. Makes me nauseous Envy

If I could feel something positive from it I would be in with a much better chance of continuing!

RiojaHaze · 28/04/2020 08:24

@DrierThanANunsNasty Gabby Allen is insanely fit! Kills me every time!

If you like her workouts, I really recommend the FIIT app, she's got a load on there. You can get a free trial which has a good selection of classes but I've been so impressed that I've signed up to the yearly membership.

Isawamagpie · 28/04/2020 08:25

Hello OP!
I am doing the exact same as you. Aiming for 5 days on, then rest days the weekend.
I'm hoping in a few weeks time to leave the house looking like VS model too Grin
My biggest downfall is alcohol which I'm actively going to try and avoid this week! I've lost a few lbs over 3 weeks but I'm hoping for a much more dramatic loss soon!
You are not alone! Let's do this!x

Parsley1234 · 28/04/2020 08:25

Yes this is great OP
I started very easily with couch 25k which where I run is 10k round walk plus 5 Tibetans yoga and 15mins hiit most days. Food wise I’ve cut the crap except for sat/sun have something small and rest of the time eat much better than I did it’s a good way to cope with no work and an insecure world

Duvetday8 · 28/04/2020 08:33

I highly recommend beachbody workouts. Ignore the MLM side and don't get a coach. The app has hundreds of different workouts and programmes to follow

Ethelfleda · 28/04/2020 08:36

Well done to you, OP.
I really like your posts - you seem very affable,

I want to join too! Not overweight but want to get toned!

Queenie8 · 28/04/2020 08:39

Can I be in your gang? Smile

I started 2.5 weeks ago, I do 20 mins on the exercise bike in the morning - I get up before everyone else, partly coz I wasn't sleeping well and needed the routine, partly because I like the quiet time. I go for a brisk walk each evening, about 2.5 miles with the DC, and then I do 10/20 mins pilates for beginners.

I wasn't doing the exercise for losing weight (I'll always take that bonus!) but I have rheumatoid arthritis and I was getting really stiff and in pain.

I hate every minute of the bike, but I do feel so much better afterwards. The pilates I struggled with massively at the beginning but I'm getting better and I am seeing results.

Keep going everyone, you are all fab.

ReignsMummyX · 28/04/2020 08:43

Oh I'm joining in here! I'm the exact same as you! I weighed close to 180lbs at the start of lockdown, and in 5 weeks I'm down 12.5lb. I literally woke up one morning and actually WANTEDShock to work out and eat lean! I've stuck to it ever since and I'm feeling amazing. Fingers crossed we'll all be VS models after lockdown GrinWink

Parsley1234 · 28/04/2020 08:45

I know every day now I want to work out ! What is happening to me 😂 for joint point I use turmeric I am 53 🤣

LostandLockeddown · 28/04/2020 09:02

Can I ask a stoopid question? How do you manage to workout at home without sounding like a herd of hippos thundering on the floor or do we just not care? 🤔

lovinglavidaloca · 28/04/2020 09:05

@LostandLockeddown if that’s a worry for you there are videos on YouTube that are low impact/no noise for this reason :)

Bloomburger · 28/04/2020 09:12

Whatever you choose to do re your diet, please choose something that you can sustain long term. You'll find if you cut things to a ridiculous level you'll do two things, as soon as you stop you'll pile weight back on and you'll have to then cut your calories even more to then get the same result again.

Focus on a long term healthy eating plan that encompasses a modicum of restraint but one where you're still able to eat a few treats so you don't feel like you're going without.

Make sure you have rest days too but if you really can't rest completely do body balance, Pilates or yoga on the days you aren't doing HIIT, cardio or strength training. It'll help with recovery and lengthening muscles to obtain a better all round look.

CodenameVillanelle · 28/04/2020 09:12

The workouts I'm doing are less jumping around and more weights and resistance with high reps so you get knackered and out of breath without leaping around. We use a tyre for the weight and it's amazing. It's a live class with my trainer so not available online but maybe try looking for a full body resistance/body weight workout that is less aerobics? There are a lot on YouTube now that are designed for people to do at home with little/no equipment

LostandLockeddown · 28/04/2020 09:15

@lovinglavidaloca oh OK, thank you. I've done yoga so far but I'm a fat lump and I have zero confidence about exercise but would like to feel stronger

LostandLockeddown · 28/04/2020 09:17

Thank you for suggestions @CodenameVillanelle. I'm Clueless

DreamingofSunshine · 28/04/2020 09:33

@Queenie8 I have RA too and haven't been doing much as I'm in a flare but I find exercise really helps me to feel better long term. My DS is 2 so hard to get him to walk fast or far. How long have you had RA?

NerdImmunity · 28/04/2020 09:46

Well done OP

I'm doing the same thing! Started about a week and a half ago - after binging and being a bit lazy for the first few weeks of lockdown I've decided I want to use this time productively. I will emerge from lockdown like a butterfly from its cocoon!

I've been getting up to go for a run, or do a YouTube workout. Davina OwnYourOwnGoals is a website platform with access to lots of exercise vids (HiiT, yoga, strength and conditioning) and she was doing a free subscription during lockdown so its worth a look. Les Mills On Demand is also doing a month free trial and you get loads of great content on there so worth signing up for the free period then cancelling! Otherwise, Jillian Micheals 30 Day Shred is always a winner for me :-)

I started curbing the eating last week to get my calories down as I'd ideally like to lose about 10lbs-1 stone if I can though I don't have loads to lose so I know it'll take me quite a while to lose that!

Queenie8 · 28/04/2020 09:51

@dreaming I've been officially diagnosed 6 years. I have RA in my pelvis, and now spreading to my hands. I am trying to get out in front of a flare up. I am prescribed biological injections monthly, but the one I'm on (Cosentyx) has failed, its only approx 20% effective, my consultant added in sulfasalazine but I had a bad reaction to it, and due to the reaction I haven't administered my (useless) injection since early Feb. I am due to switch biological imminently - depending on my blood test results which I have to go for today, I'm petrified of going to the hospital - and how quickly they can be delivered.

I do find exercise helps, but I'm lazy, and in normal circumstances I am fairly active, I'm a SEN TA, so on my feet all day which actually works for me, if I'm sat down I stiffen up. I also take a lot of supplements to counter act the immunosuppressive part of the injection.

My DC are late juniors/early senior school age. One scoots whilst me and the other DC walk quickly. There is no wrong or right way to get active, whatever you find works best for you. Although the pilates does work!

lubeybooby · 28/04/2020 09:53

yanbu but you need accurate calorie control too otherwise even high levels of exercise might not be enough to actually lose the pounds of excess you mention. I use loseit app

lovinglavidaloca · 28/04/2020 09:54

Anyone looking for a workout today I just did this lil beauty.

Burnt 250 calories!
