Is a 21 night holiday too much?

Usually at the end of 14 nights we're ready to go home. But I'm unsure if that's because we know we have to.

As we aren't going to be able to go away this year we are thinking of 21 nights next June instead.

Have you done 21 nights? Was it too much?

YABU - Too long, was ready for home.
YANBU - 21 days was fine.

That sounds amazing to me! Where were you thinking of going?

Sparklesocks · 27/04/2020 19:56

I think if you can afford it, can get the time off and don’t have commitments you need to get back to at home (dogs etc) then go for it! But also depends where you’re going and if you’re likely to get bored if its a bit same-y.

MorganKitten · 27/04/2020 19:56

Depends where you are going, I do long road trip holidays as it gives more time to explore.

chipsandpeas · 27/04/2020 19:56

depends where you go

3 weeks in spain may be too long but 3 weeks in asia would be different

DisneyMillie · 27/04/2020 19:57

We had a 3 week holiday last year which was brilliant but most of it was a big road trip. I think I’d be bored in one place after a week or so. (But we can’t manage more than a day or two by a pool before we’re feeling twitchy!)

Crunchymum · 27/04/2020 19:59

Depends on the type of trip.

One place / AI then way too long

lanbro · 27/04/2020 19:59

I did 3 weeks in Thailand, travelling around, and it was fab. 2 weeks in an AI in Turkey felt like lifetime!

littlepeas · 27/04/2020 19:59

We’ve done a few 3 week holidays, but they were road trips and very active (Sri Lanka, New Zealand and California). I loved it - it’s so nice to go away and know you’ve got ages and getting to a week and knowing you still have a whole fortnight left. I don’t think I’d do it if it was just 3 weeks in the same spot though.

The biggest issue was running out of clean clothes!

TokyoSushi · 27/04/2020 20:00

I'd agree, 3 weeks in Asia with different stops, brilliant. 3 weeks in an all inclusive in Salou, less so...

Windyatthebeach · 27/04/2020 20:00

3 weeks would be too long for me. And probably for my marriage!!
Grin
Def too long for my ddogs to be in kennels.
Likely abandonment issues would acrue...
I would have guilt.
15 days we once left them.
I cried at kennel drop off more than ddogs.
It's now on dh's holiday prep list!!
I do the collecting and take all the glory!

Dowser · 27/04/2020 20:00

We do three weeks in March every year in Tenerife
Except for this year, when because of cv we only got two
We wuz robbed.
Love three weeks, the longest away was 30 days , several times in Florida when I had my own house
Never thought it would end, when we arrived on our first night...but it did ☹️

Chillipeanuts · 27/04/2020 20:01

Too much for me if it were in one place.

Bartlet · 27/04/2020 20:01

Depends where you’re going and whether this is your only holiday of the year. I’d much rather have a main fortnight holiday then another week later in the year

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 27/04/2020 20:02

One week is too long for me as I am a massive homebody and get so homesick. We stick with 5 nights now. If you don't get homesick then I'm sure it would be fine.

RusholmeRuffian · 27/04/2020 20:03

Depends on the holiday. We do a 3 week roadtrip every other year and it's definitely not too long. Three weeks on a beach in the same place though, I would be suicidal.

Bertucci · 27/04/2020 20:04

We go to the US and we often do 3 weeks, but have a few days in a city before heading to a beach area where we have a place.

For example, we have done NY, Boston, Chicago over the last few years.

Undies1990 · 27/04/2020 20:04

3 weeks in the same location = too long
3 weeks travelling around from place to place = perfect

We've done a few three week road trips and loved every minute.

msmith501 · 27/04/2020 20:05

Sounds good to me. You can spend the first few days relaxing into the holiday and then begin to properly integrate into the local life. The airfare is pretty much the same for two vs three weeks so the added cost of an extra week accommodation will be minimal. I always try for three weeks if I'm going further than Europe as it makes so much sense. Life is too short to be worried about rushing home in a hurry.

superram · 27/04/2020 20:06

We did 3 weeks doing San Francisco to San Diego then over to Vegas. It was great and we loved it. Wouldn’t have been worth it for less time but 21 days is a long time to spend with your family. We all came home and sat in separate rooms for a couple of days.

MrsT1405 · 27/04/2020 20:06

We done all sorts of long holidays as we're retired and quite often it's getting there that's expensive.
We've done 7 weeks in Australia, fabulous went to several places and did a lot. 5 weeks South Africa, hard going , lots of busses and flights but beautiful. Alaska..great, we love cruises and have done some long ones....6 weeks plus. Only problem can be drinking too much and having to get dressed up every night. If you can , go for as long as possible. You can get a bit of washing done if you need it and take all your old knickers and throw as you go!

maddy68 · 27/04/2020 20:06

It definitely depends on the type of holiday. If there is lots to do and see then it's ok. If it's a beach holiday I would be really bored by then

Jayfeem · 27/04/2020 20:07

It depends what you like, what you’re into, and what you want!

We did 3 weeks in a resort - too little to keep us entertained that long, but we’re reasonably young and like sight seeing. I think the all inclusive aspect didnt help as we had budgeted towards using the hotel more than we realised we wanted to.

We did 4 weeks touring a country - not long enough!

If you can spread it out say 4/5 nights here and there it’s almost like a collection of holidays in one.

papiermaches · 27/04/2020 20:08

depends - somewhere interesting? I've done 3-4 week trips to Oz and Asia. Ended too soon!

user1471453601 · 27/04/2020 20:09

I go away for four weeks in May/June (well, I used to) and three weeks in September.

Where I go the journey feels pretty difficult. Over four hour flight, 75minute bus ride and 90 minutes by ferry. So four or three weeks feels about right.

It is somewhat different as a holiday than those I used to take, however. I don't eat out every evening, for example. I cook for myself most evenings, and just enjoy the peace and quite

Iooselipssinkships · 27/04/2020 20:11

We've never done it but have booked Florida for 3 weeks in August to get married and then have the honeymoon with the kids doing the parks etc. Looks unlikely but still waiting to see what happens. It's supposed to be a holiday of lifetime as we'll never afford again, especially not for 21 nights.
