Is a 21 night holiday too much?

Emcont · 27/04/2020 19:52

Usually at the end of 14 nights we're ready to go home. But I'm unsure if that's because we know we have to.

As we aren't going to be able to go away this year we are thinking of 21 nights next June instead.

Have you done 21 nights? Was it too much?

YABU - Too long, was ready for home.
YANBU - 21 days was fine.

If it’s a multi centre holiday it would be great, but 3 weeks in one resort would be too long for me.

OrinocoGlow · 27/04/2020 21:27

What about a few days in Palma and maybe another town before going to Puerto Pollensa? To break it up - it would feel like 3 separate holidays and the days won't all blend into each other.

UnderCaffeinated · 27/04/2020 21:33

We did 21 nights one time and 30 nights the night time, in Orlando when I was a teenager and it was unbelievable! We still didn't see everything/eat everything we wanted to but it was incredible and we loved it. I echo other posters, I think 21 nights at an AL resort/village would feel very long and MIL did 21 nights in Crete last year and was more than ready to come home, but somewhere there's no end of things to do it's amazing.

Many years ago I went away with my family for 3 weeks to France, we did go somewhere different for the 3rd week. I always think 2 weeks fly by and the 3rd week makes it just right.
Cost is the only thing stopping me do it.

MaryShelley1818 · 27/04/2020 21:36

I've done several 3wk holidays, most of them to America (Orlando or West Coast California area) and Australia. Love a really big trip!

londonrach · 27/04/2020 21:36

Depends..im usually ready to get home around day 8. Did three months in usa but we travelling but looking back i enjoyed it but did want to go home. We travelled every couple of days hence why unsettled

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 27/04/2020 21:36

Depends where and what your doing
An action packed explore of a big country long haul perfect

Something closer to home more sedentary then not so much

bridgetreilly · 27/04/2020 21:36

I've done one 3 week holiday, but it had several parts: Iceland, 3 locations in the US, then a week on a transatlantic cruise liner coming back. It was GLORIOUS.

I'm not sure I'd want to do 3 weeks on a beach somewhere, though.

ProfessorPootle · 27/04/2020 21:37

We’ve booked 3 weeks in Florida and the gulf coast in April next year. Got a week at Disneyland, a week at universal and a week at Clearwater. The kids have a really long Easter break so it fitted in with school holidays and it’s a long flight so decided to make the most of it. Not sure if it’ll still go ahead, booked with virgin holidays in the new year sales.

magicsoakingmyspine · 27/04/2020 21:38

My 21 day honeymoon 18 years ago was bliss .... however, I'm not sure we'd cope with 21 days now Wink

happinessinayellowbottle · 27/04/2020 21:42

It depends on how old your kids are, but I think it may be too long.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 27/04/2020 21:44

Depends. If it was somewhere I knew I liked, definitely. If it was somewhere new, I don't think I would, incase I didn't like it.

Megan2018 · 27/04/2020 21:44

We used to do a lot of roadtrips of that length. I couldn’t do 21 nights in one place though as get bored.

Our last trip was 2 weeks on the move and 1 week in one place which was great (we toured a huge amount of Spain).

Happymum12345 · 27/04/2020 21:45

If you love where you’re going & have nothing holding you back, it would be perfect!

NoMoreDickheads · 27/04/2020 21:45

I would go to two slightly different places- that way you don't get chance to get bored. When I was at Uni we were sent for 2 weeks in Italy followed by 2 in Greece. It was fantastic.

Or even if you have 2 weeks in North Cornwall and a week somewhere else, or whatever.

Or you could have 2 separate holidays.

christravelwizard · 27/04/2020 21:47

@Emcont,
It very much depends on the type of holiday (e.g. the itinerary on a guided rail tour through Asia requires 21 days and it's worth it) but perhaps you need to take into account the ages of the travellers, flight times and in destination costs and activities.

Yellredder · 27/04/2020 21:49

Did just over three weeks in Florida, which was fab.

BlackSwan · 27/04/2020 21:55

Will anyone really holiday in June 2020? I’m not so optimistic

LEELULUMPKIN · 27/04/2020 21:57

We do 3 weeks in the USA every year. When things are back up and running again we are hoping to squeeze a month on our next trip.

Chickoletta · 27/04/2020 22:00

We were planning to do 3 weeks this summer but travelling across Spain and France by car staying in 4 or 5 different places. I think 3 weeks in the same hotel/resort might be too much.

CherryPavlova · 27/04/2020 22:02

I think it would depend on who you were with, where you went and what you were doing.
Three weeks in the same all inclusive hotel in a room shared with two children would be my idea of a nightmare.
A villa on the banks of Lake Geneva with use of a boat and a tennis court, friends or family joining us for a few days each and a car to go put and about would be heavenly. Better still if it were during the Montreaux festival.

SynchroSwimmer · 27/04/2020 22:04

I also rate 3 and 4 week holidays
It’s great after the first week to know you still have 2 weeks or more still to go. (Rather than counting down days until you fly home)
Also sometimes book 2 weeks, and book another 2 online whilst actually in resort to stay on, or move to a different hotel/and resort but say on the same island

Itsjustmee · 27/04/2020 22:05

We have done 3/4 weeks every year for the past 19 years
Mainly to the Caribbean Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba .
We did 4 weeks two in Thailand and two in the Maldives one year which was ace
4 weeks in Thailand island hopping

But we also do 2 weeks in September as well and sometimes a week away somewhere in the U.K.

UnderTheIroningBoard · 27/04/2020 22:06

Depends. Australia or other long haul, fine.
Disneyland, no.

notalwaysalondoner · 27/04/2020 22:19

We’ve done 3+ weeks in South America, Central America, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kenya, Canada, Japan. All of these were either road trips or backpacking style trips where you move every 3-4 days, however. I think three weeks in the same place might get boring, however, it depends on your personalities and the place! If you’re good at relaxing, reading, napping, pottering it might be lovely, whereas if you always want to do something it might run out of things to offer. Maybe try 10 days in one location and 10 days somewhere else within a couple of hours drive? Where were you thinking of going?
