Is a 21 night holiday too much?

Usually at the end of 14 nights we're ready to go home. But I'm unsure if that's because we know we have to.

As we aren't going to be able to go away this year we are thinking of 21 nights next June instead.

Have you done 21 nights? Was it too much?

YABU - Too long, was ready for home.
YANBU - 21 days was fine.

We did 4 weeks one summer to Australia, it was fab! But we enjoy spending time together as a family!! I wouldn't want 4 weeks in 1 place though and you need places to wash clothes!

countdowntonap · 27/04/2020 20:13

We’ve done three weeks for the past few years, but not all in the same destination. E.g. Last year we stayed on three different Greek islands. I don’t intend to do a two week holiday ever agai!

PinkiOcelot · 27/04/2020 20:16

We have an apartment in Spain and always used to go for 3 weeks. Loved it. It was never too long and I still didn’t want to come home at the end of it.

AJPTaylor · 27/04/2020 20:18

We did 3 weeks to Florida. Worth it, a d bizarrely cheaper than going for 2. Went end of August into the first few days of September.

KitKat1985 · 27/04/2020 20:25

I think as long as you go somewhere where there's enough to keep you entertained for 3 weeks then it would be great.

Samtsirch · 27/04/2020 20:29

I think it depends on destination and type of holiday.
3 weeks would be 2 long for me, but I am a bit of a home body.
I would prefer 2 or 3 separate, shorter holidays, at different times of the year and in different locations.

Inthemuckheap · 27/04/2020 20:29

Couldn't do it if it was to just one place but have done 3 and 4 weeks to far flung places and moved around alot. 21 nights in the same hotel would do my head in. I can just about manage a week in one place.

PestymcPestFace · 27/04/2020 20:29

At the moment the risk is 14 days quarantine and 7 days holiday.

In a previous life I used to think 28 days aka August was just fine.

Guiltyfeminist1 · 27/04/2020 20:31

Every year we do a road trip between 4 to 6 weeks which is brilliant. The feeling at the beginning of the holiday when you know you're st the beginning of a 6 week adventure is incredible. So anything like that then go for it with bells on. 3 weeks in the one place? Shoot me now.

TwelveMonkeys · 27/04/2020 20:36

In one place - probably too long for me. If it's multiple places, then totally fine, not long enough!

Thinkingabout1t · 27/04/2020 20:37

Totally depends on where you're going and what kind of holiday.

I'd find three weeks very boring on the beach or in a city, no matter how interesting the place was.

But I'd say you need at least three weeks for a long-haul holiday, say touring Australia.

EatsShootsAndRuns · 27/04/2020 20:38

We had 3 weeks in Cuba and it was too short! Could easily have stopped another 2-3 weeks there.

00100001 · 27/04/2020 20:39

where are you going?

Straycatstrut · 27/04/2020 20:41

I always get homesick before the 2 weeks is up! Depends on the person and the place, and the company and how much spending money you have to be able to explore/entertain/keep yourself amused.

timeforawine · 27/04/2020 20:42

We've done 3 week road trips in New Zealand, US West Coast and Hawaii, never felt too long. The first 2 didn't feel long enough as there was so much to see and do

Leighwalk · 27/04/2020 20:42

Depends on where, who with and does it match the things you want to to and see.
We did 5 and a half weeks in Spain - various places, hotel city breaks in Malaga and Barcelona,a luxury hotel in village, holiday lets near the beach and in the countryside with a pool, hired a car and travelled by train. Fabulous.

UnholyStramash · 27/04/2020 20:43

It would depend largely on who you’re with? Some combinations might be awful.

Katjolo · 27/04/2020 20:43

Definitely depends on location.

GreyGardens88 · 27/04/2020 20:44

Depends on the type of holiday and if you're using annual leave. I only get 17 days to take through the year not counting xmas, so I would prefer to take 2 weeks in June then a separate week at a different time of the year

If I had generous annual leave I would love 3 weeks away, but going to a few different places rather than staying in one

Ughmaybenot · 27/04/2020 20:45

It depends really. My DH and I did just over five weeks in New Zealand, three weeks in a campervan and the other two and a bit visiting various friends all over the South Island. That’s a long time, but because it was varied it didn’t feel too long. (By god I was happy to see my dog when we got back tho!)
Three weeks in just one typical holiday place would be a bit boring I think, but somewhere more varied etc might be okay.

iolaus · 27/04/2020 20:46

10 days is usually the max for me in one place. I'd rather do shorter multiple trips (so for example last year we did 4 short breaks spread over the year)

I could so a three week trip if it was split over 2-3 places

SallyWD · 27/04/2020 20:46

I've done it. It's lovely.

Oysterbabe · 27/04/2020 20:47

It depends where. We did 2 weeks in Barbados on honeymoon and I definitely could have done another week.

Thedogscollar · 27/04/2020 20:49

We did 3 weeks in Florida. Absolutely loved it and needed all 21 days to do everything we had booked.

AgeLikeWine · 27/04/2020 20:50

That depends on they type of holiday.

21 nights in a tent, and I would be committing suicide.
21 nights in a all-inclusive resort hotel and I would be the size of a blue whale.
21 nights on a 🇺🇸 road trip and I would be loving every minute of my coast-to-coast journey.
