Is a 21 night holiday too much?

Usually at the end of 14 nights we're ready to go home. But I'm unsure if that's because we know we have to.

As we aren't going to be able to go away this year we are thinking of 21 nights next June instead.

Have you done 21 nights? Was it too much?

YABU - Too long, was ready for home.
YANBU - 21 days was fine.

I've done 3 weeks Sri Lanka /Maldives
3 week road trip California
3 week road trip New Zealand.
Not sure I would enjoy it 3 weeks in one place so much

WrongKindOfFace · 27/04/2020 20:50

Very much depends on where you’re going and what you plan on doing. Three weeks in one place is probably too much, unless it’s somewhere with masses to do/see. Fine for a multi centre trip.

Emcont · 27/04/2020 20:52

For the last 2 years we have done an aparthotel in Puerto Pollensa, Majorca. Which is what we were going to do this year too. So it would be staying in the same place for the whole 3 weeks, but we rent a car and explore different parts of the island.

I'm hoping if we do decide on 21 nights, my children will be 2 years older than when we last went, so we will be able to do things like the caves, boat trips etc. Which they were just too young for last time x

It depends how far you're travelling and how many places you plan to go. Going all the way to Australia it isn't very long at all when you account for jet lag and the time it takes to get there. Inter railing Europe would be great for that length of time or maybe a city/two cities plus beach break.

Fluffybutter · 27/04/2020 20:53

We’ve done that much in Florida and it was great but it depends where ,really

SpudsAreLife84 · 27/04/2020 20:54

Instead of 3 weeks in majorca I'd do 2 weeks there and another week somewhere else at another time later in the year.

Whattheduck · 27/04/2020 20:54

We are hopefully going away for 3 weeks next year
My 50th my dd’s 16th and mine and dh’s 25th wedding anniversary so planning to go to New York for 5 nights Maui for 10 nights and San Francisco for 5 nights

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/04/2020 20:55

We were supposed to be doing a 21 night road trip in the US last year. Unfortunately we had to cancel a couple of days before we went but I would have loved it!

inwood · 27/04/2020 20:57

We always do three weeks, or slightly over in the summer. We go to US to see family and tag a 'proper' holiday on end or we drive to our mobile home in France. The drive to France is loooong so 14 nights ien't enough when you take travelling into account. DH is a teacher and my work is really flexible so annual leave not an issue.

Almostfifty · 27/04/2020 20:59

We did that in Florida, and it meant we did absolutely everything, knowing it was the one and only time we were going. It was great.

BoomBoomsCousin · 27/04/2020 21:00

I did three weeks in Hawaii once, that was amazing but we stayed at four different places. I backpacked around Italy for three weeks just after A levels and that was brilliant. And I went on a four-week Asian trip staying in Hong Kong and 4 different places in Thailand. I would never book three weeks all in one place unless there was a huge amount to do or people I knew, though.

I suspect my kids, who are tweenagers at the moment, would not tolerate a long holiday so well. I took them on a month-long trip a few years ago and while we had fun, it was too much.

Pickles89 · 27/04/2020 21:01

Our holidays are always only a week, which is really aggravating because no sooner have you settled in than it's time to pack up again! 10 - 12 days would be my ideal, after that I'd be homesick. I never go further than Germany/Italy/Western Europe though - obviously the further you go the longer you want.

SurferRona · 27/04/2020 21:02

All holidays are too long. The perfect length for a holiday = t booked (d)-3 Grin

aerosocks · 27/04/2020 21:05

I start to twitch after ten days. Three weeks would be too long for me unless it was somewhere a lot bigger than Majorca.

EustaciaPieface · 27/04/2020 21:06

I would happily stay in Majorca for three weeks. We’ve done a fortnight in Majorca the travelled to Menorca for a final week.

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/04/2020 21:06

Three weeks in one place would drive me mad. Any more than 10 days and I am ready for home. But a three week long trip around more than one place would be good. You could do a road trip around Europe (or better, on the train, I did that when I was younger and it was fantastic) for example or do the greek islands, or north to south Italy....the options are endless.

But three weeks in a resort....no!

DogInATent · 27/04/2020 21:09

Did 4 weeks last year, and was planning on the same this year until Covid kicked off.

It depends on you, it depends on the holiday.

3 weeks in Florida is amazing and I never want to come back! If I could get the holiday I could easily do 4 weeks... But there is loads to do. A beach type holiday? Nope, 10 days is the limit for me. I think a 3 week beach holiday would get boring.

In your case I would think a 2 week holiday as usual and then a week elsewhere at a different time might be better.

Taswama · 27/04/2020 21:11

I think 3 weeks in one place is too long. Also your kids may get homesick before you do.

yelyah22 · 27/04/2020 21:15

I've done 3 weeks twice, both in SE Asia, and that was great because we were travelling about - would rather they'd have been slightly longer. I wouldn't do a 3-week beach and pool type holiday, or in a city (not even somewhere with tons to see) - it'd feel like a waste, I think, all that money spent on food and sightseeing etc for such a long time when I could have 3 seperate weeks in different counties/locations.

hermionegrange · 27/04/2020 21:15

My family own an apartment in Pollensa and we go for the whole summer- definitely not going to be too much if you go for 21 days. And like you say, so many lovely parts of the island to explore!

Wineiscooling · 27/04/2020 21:21

We did 3 weeks, actually including travel to destination it was 24 nights, last year and it was amazing. However ours was a bit of a road trip, I'd probably be bored in the same destination. But if it's what you fancy, go for it. I could've happily done more if I didn't have work to come home to.

chocolicious · 27/04/2020 21:22

We've done a 4 week road trip in the USA. I think 21 days is fine if you're not staying in the one place.

TheoneandObi · 27/04/2020 21:25

Our most recent holiday was three weeks, and it taught me its slightly too long. I missed my dog!
When our last dog died when took a 5 week mega holiday to NZ and Far East and that was fine - missed the grown up children a bit, but tbh we probably wouldn't have seen them in that time anyway.
But the dog... I missed him terribly after two weeks. What a sap eh?
