Is a 21 night holiday too much?

Usually at the end of 14 nights we're ready to go home. But I'm unsure if that's because we know we have to.

As we aren't going to be able to go away this year we are thinking of 21 nights next June instead.

Have you done 21 nights? Was it too much?

YABU - Too long, was ready for home.
YANBU - 21 days was fine.

3 weeks touring in a camper is brilliant, 3 or 4 nights then move on. I prefer the UK and when DP retires there will be nothing stopping us heading for the coast for the entire 6 weeks summer break (I work in a school). I see us cruising for 4+ weeks at a time as well. Stay in a resort for more than a week - definitely not.

OhTheRoses · 27/04/2020 22:22

August does us. SW France. Beautiful house, cracking garden, wonderful pool, fab location. Longer or more often when poss. Since about 2003.

goose1964 · 27/04/2020 22:23

We did 3 weeks in Barbados for my 40th, I really felt sad about leaving. If I win the lottery we're going to buy a house there.

hopsalong · 27/04/2020 22:26

There's a theory that breaking up a fixed block time into segments makes it feel longer. Not sure if true in general, but I would feel I got more holiday out of 21 days if I went on one long (14 days, say) relaxing holiday and two shorter trips. Three weeks isn't really long enough to settle properly into a place and have the experience of temporarily dwelling there (I've done that in various places -- six weeks a more realistic minimum) but for me is a little too long to be in holiday accommodation. If you're intending to travel round, that would be different, I imagine. (Haven't backpacked or traveled a lot on holidays for two decades.)

momtoolliex · 27/04/2020 22:28

Completely depends on the place! I couldn't stay in a resort in one place for 3 weeks. I did however travel around multiple places in Thailand for a month and it was the most amazing thing ever Smile

Crimsonnightlotus · 27/04/2020 22:36

If I go back to my country, it has to be at least 3 weeks. So, no, 21 night holiday is not too long for me, at all. But if I go on a holiday, wherever I go, I would get bored if I don't have a good plan. So, definitely depend on where you are going and what you are planning to do.

notacooldad · 27/04/2020 22:40

3 weeks in spain may be too long but 3 weeks in asia would be different
Is that a joke. I'm planning a 3 week trip to Spain next year starting in Barcelona and making my way downworking my way through Valencia and finishing in Huelvs.
Too much for me if it were in one place
Again in depends! I was happy with 3 weeks in Tasmania staying in one place. The company was brilliant!

Op, only you can decide what you like.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 27/04/2020 22:40

Crack on! I could even tolerate a beach holiday for this long - just do it and enjoy it Smile

Lsquiggles · 27/04/2020 22:41

I get bored on day 5 of a 7 day holiday, let alone 21 Shock

TheStarryNight · 27/04/2020 22:42

We did it for our honeymoon. It was brilliant. If you add in the wedding it was 25 days off.

Only downside was going back tbh.

Lsquiggles · 27/04/2020 22:42

But then again that's a resort holiday, I spent 3 weeks in Canada and could've stayed for another week or 2

OneandTwenty · 27/04/2020 22:42

I am never ready to go home, and the longer the holiday the better as far as I am concerned!

I chose holidays that I enjoy, so I wouldn't go anywhere I'd be bored within 2 or 3 days. Chose what works for you.

I have been able in the past to take the kids away for the entire duration of the summer holiday, it was great. I am going to take a lot more unpaid leave when it's all over, and take a lot more holidays.

21 days is not that long, you can actually relax and have a proper break.
A week is not a holiday, it' s not long enough.

OneandTwenty · 27/04/2020 22:44

3 weeks in spain may be too long Confused

Spain, as in: the country?!? You think you can "do" Spain in 2 weeks?!
Brilliant Grin

TSSDNCOP · 27/04/2020 22:50

I've done three weeks where the holiday was abroad trip, one where it was a multi centre and one where it was a villa in Europe.

The benefit is you can really take it easy and just have days of total relaxation without having to fit everyone in.

After 3 weeks in the villa we were recognised in the village and greeted wherever we went.

I would have done it again in a heartbeat this summer. Damn you Covid. bastard.

orlarose · 27/04/2020 22:50

We used to do 3 weeks every year (pre kids). Sometimes that was 3 weeks in one place other times a few days at the beginning and end at a different place. I'm the type of person who enjoys the whole get up, lovely breakfast, sit around the pool or beach then get dressed for dinner. Others would hate this. Depends what camp you're in.

Tumbleweed101 · 27/04/2020 22:51

Three weeks is perfect for a long haul holiday but would probably be a bit too long for a UK one - simply because I'm including jet lag and getting to know a different culture/environment in that time.

I had a three week holiday in Canada a few years back and it was about perfect. I was just starting to miss home when it was time to come home but at two weeks I was still enjoying it too much to think of home.

Serin · 27/04/2020 22:59

We used to go to Cornwallor France for the whole 6 week school summer holiday.
Loved it.

Emcont · 27/04/2020 23:01

@BlackSwan - June 2021.

Every year we go have a shorter break of a couple of weeks as well as away for a month, it’s great! It usually takes a few days to relax and wind down from work, get over jet lag etc and I like knowing that even after that we have plenty of time left. We do travel around though, and pick fairly adventurous things to do - I couldn’t spend a month on a beach. We are lucky as we get so much leave - I have 32.5 days plus 26 flexi days so we can go away for longer. If I had less time I’d probably be more inclined to split it into a couple of two week trips.

SpoonBlender · 27/04/2020 23:27

Depends on you and your co-holidayers! I am absolutely fine with being away, just have to make sure you build in rest days rather than trying to smash through everything all the time.

DP, on the other hand, starts getting antsy after about ten days and needs to be back home in two weeks. I dunno why.

Bobleywobley · 27/04/2020 23:56

Do people not think its risky to book holidays for next year considering that Covid 19 might still be circulating and it's associated lockdowns?

Californiabakes · 28/04/2020 00:01

We’ve done 21 days when going to the states (not Florida). Not too long and 2 weeks would have been too short.

Zeusthemoose · 28/04/2020 00:03

As others have said I think in one place too long but fine for a few places or a road trip.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 28/04/2020 00:29

It depends on where you are going and what there is there to do. Whenever I've been to the US I've normally gone for a minimum of 22 days and sometimes 32. I've had loads to do because of how vast the National parks are.

I'd struggle if I was having a beach holiday (but then they're not my cup of tea anyway).

Oxo01 · 28/04/2020 01:27

Usually do 2 weeks in April or May and another 2 end of August
Last year we done 2 weeks in May and 3 in August to Egypt it was great. Would defiantly do it again.
Also stayed 3 weeks in India Fab.
