Is a 21 night holiday too much?

Usually at the end of 14 nights we're ready to go home. But I'm unsure if that's because we know we have to.

As we aren't going to be able to go away this year we are thinking of 21 nights next June instead.

Have you done 21 nights? Was it too much?

YABU - Too long, was ready for home.
YANBU - 21 days was fine.

If it's somewhere like New Zealand then even 21 days isn't long enough but if it's just sitting around a pool on a.n.other Costa type holiday I would imagine you would all be bored shitless by day 10 nevermind day 14.

Blinking heck, Op doesn't need to know that you had a fab time down under etc. Or that 20 years ago you went on honeymoon and had so much fun you conceived DD after that fourth Cosmopolitan

Op, your DC must be quite young then. How will three weeks feel like to you? If it seems like you'd need a holiday to recover from it then perhaps think again.
Young kids may also get homesick too

So many permutations of how a three week holiday works for other prople.

Consider who, what where and when. You are also not equipped with a crystal ball. That's a long time in the future.

If you think it would work for you all, in all the circumstances outlined. I can see benefits of long holidays . But trapped on a bus in Malaysia with a tired child and trapped on a pool complex with a tired child are still the same shit ty moments

If it will suit you then go for it. Taking into consideration that two separate holidays are more expensive than the one longer one. Not a worry for those over wintering in a stone cottage in a Balearic village. I may or may not be projecting my secret desires there but my point is valid nonetheless.

I am envious of the 6 weeks camping or in a cottage lots.

This is a strange mumsnet at times.

Woops . Missing text after are the same shitty moments but offer varying different comfort levels.

We had a 24 night holiday booked for this year which we won't be able to do now unfortunately..

I haven't done it with kids before but my thinking is if it's a laying by the pool or beach holiday then 3 weeks is too long but if you can move around / there's varied things / places to visit then I think it would be great.

We had a 3 week honeymoon and travelled through the rockies and over to Vancouver and up the coast. It was incredible!

Of course it depends on your budget. Personally, l would want

  • good connections between the locstions, be it car, train ferry or plane.
  • a kitchen to prepare some meals. The 20th night in a restaurant can be a bit much.
  • And for at least some of the time l would want a washing machine.

In the early 80s, I did a 3 week road trip through France on the back of my then boyfriend's motorbike. It was bloody fab, apart from arseache from so long "in the saddle" and having to get clothes washed and dried (very hard to get 3 weeks' worth of clothes into motorbike panniers lol).

I think 3 weeks in one place would get a bit boring though.

Have done two long holidays- both 3.5 weeks. One sailing up to the Baltic and the other a trip to Canada. Major problem was getting back in the work mood afterwards, particularly after the sailing holiday where life was ordered by the tides.

We regularly do three week holidays in Southern Spain (family property that we stay in for very minimal costs). We love going for so long and sometimes use the apartment as a base and travel elsewhere from there.

I love long holidays.

MrsJBaptiste · 28/04/2020 08:19

I could definitely do 3 weeks in Majorca 😀

Get me on the beach or by the pool with my kindle and it would be my perfect holiday, moving for cocktails from 5pm 🍹

I think 3 weeks in one place would get a bit boring though

That's the key, not where you go. You could tour round Spain by high speed train and spend a few days in each of several cities and easily fill three weeks, and more, without going anywhere near a beach, pool, English breakfast or beer served in a pint glass.

On the contrary, there will be plenty of people who visit 'worthy' places like Thailand or India and spend most of the time on the beach, or at the buffet in the hotel, with maybe only a token excursion or two to historical sites.

I wouldn't want to go away for three weeks because that's too long for me. I'd rather use the time and money to have two holidays at different times of year, so there's more opportunity for something to look forward to. But that's me, we're all different.

Or you could do what another poster suggests and, if you're set on three weeks in Mallorca, have a week in Palma and then two weeks over in Puerto Pollensa.

Plenty to do in the city and west side of the island incl Puerto Andrax, Camp de Mar, Paguera, Cala Fornells, and of course Soller/Puerto Soller. A nice combination of interesting things to see/do, combined with relaxation plus the added advantage of these places being better connected to Palma and you can go on the tourist train through the mountains from Palma to Soller.

I've enjoyed several month long holidays, during which we travel to different places or different countries

I would love to travel for a year, but waiting until retirement

2 weeks round the same pool would be my idea of holiday hell. However, I realize that some people enjoy this sort of relaxed holiday

StickerMania115 · 28/04/2020 10:21

I'd rather have adventures than other things like subscription boxes, new cars etc

Depends what you prioritize for your budget & spending

GREATAUNT1 · 28/04/2020 11:13

Op, seeing as you've been there twice previously & was planning a 3rd trip you obviously like it, so I'd give it a whirl. But in saying that I've only ever done a week at a time short haul, & I book a lazy TUI package when I feel like a rest. I usually do long haul mostly as I feel the further I travel the greater the adventure. Plus I want to travel as far as I can whilst I'm able. Whatever you choose to do all holz are great & they are what you make them.
