My friend is a conspiracy nut

AIBU not to agree with any just to keep the peace? She is always going on about one conspiracy or another. Vaccines, covid19, the Government etc etc. Did man land on the moon? Did the men in grey kill Diana?

Does anybody else have a conspiracy theory we can put to bed??

I think there's some truth in the Covid stuff tbh. Clearly escaped from a wuhan lab by mistake.

lockdownstress · 25/04/2020 22:10

She wouldn't be my friend any more if she kept on about that sort of thing

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/04/2020 22:12

It's not for us to put things to bed though, is it. It's what people believe in. Who are we to say things happened or didn't happen.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/04/2020 22:13

Or even how they they happened. You putting things to bed isn't going to make conspiracy theories go away

Piglet89 · 25/04/2020 22:13

@cookingmywaythroughlockdown I agree - that’s much more likely and plausible than the wet market story.

BubblyBarbara · 25/04/2020 22:13

She’s allowed to believe in whatever she likes. It’s like having friends of different faiths it’s okay for them to believe in whatever as long as they’re not trying to convert you.

1555CC · 25/04/2020 22:13

Conspiracy theories allow idiots to think they are intellectuals.

HappyMumsie · 25/04/2020 22:14

Some are so ridiculous though. Like the papers are full of gossip about celebs so we don't read about what is really going on

OP posts:
Foghead · 25/04/2020 22:14

Sympathies op! I have one of those too. I’m open minded enough to consider some theories and am sure we don’t know the truth about everything, but the 5g Planned Covid population control and chip everyone through vaccines and to put businesses out so Amazon can take over the world theories are driving me nuts.

Sparklesocks · 25/04/2020 22:15

If it was really relentless I think I’d struggle with patience with it after a while if it was my friend, clearly our world views are so difficult that I’m not sure we are compatible. But if it was just the odd conversation point here and there I don’t think I’d mind too much.

HappyMumsie · 25/04/2020 22:15

Lets hear some good ones then!

Delbelleber · 25/04/2020 22:15

I have a flat earth friend who seems to be a conspiracy theory nut. I do love her though Smile

Sparklesocks · 25/04/2020 22:15

*different not difficult

Bounceyflouncey · 25/04/2020 22:16

I find it interesting to know what others think, conspiracies are quite intriguing to me, as long as the believer doesn't go on about it incessantly or make out that they are enlightened and everyone else is stupid because they don't believe it. Can't say I have a favourite though!

HappyMumsie · 25/04/2020 22:16

Quite @Foghead

OP posts:
Gtugccbjb · 25/04/2020 22:18

Can’t you have friends with different opinions to yours?

Sparklesocks · 25/04/2020 22:19

There are some conspiracy theories I quite enjoy discussing because they’re so out there - like the one that says Paul McCartney died years ago and was replaced with a lookalike, or that Cosmo purposefully print bad relationship advice to sabotage and keep their readers single so they keep buying the mag for more advice.

Those are pretty harmless and an interesting idea. I think the problem is when someone believes that everything is a conspiracy and ignores common sense and logic to fit their narratives. That can be damaging.

Naturalbornkiller · 25/04/2020 22:20

Like the papers are full of gossip about celebs so we don't read about what is really going on

That's not a conspiracy, that's actually happening. How many people know all about love island or TOWIE, but fuck all about the true ins and outs of Brexit or how the Conservative party policies have effected our country.

minionsrule · 25/04/2020 22:20

My 15 year old DS is a conspiracy theory nut Blush

HappyMumsie · 25/04/2020 22:21

The latest is that Prince Phillip is dead but they re waiting until the summer to say anything so he can have a state funeral

OP posts:
cupcakehurricane101 · 25/04/2020 22:21

These posts always make me laugh. People call others a conspiracy theory nut etc. Why do you believe the news and the government?? I think people who believe that are stupid idiots. I actually find most people who trust the government also like talking about shite shows like Hollyoaks and Corrie. Zzzz.

Sparklesocks · 25/04/2020 22:22

@cupcakehurricane101 I actually quite like Hollyoaks, it’s quite nice escapism when you want 30 mins to watch something fluffy Smile

Bounceyflouncey · 25/04/2020 22:25

@Sparklesocks if you haven't seen Shane Dawsons series on YouTube it's worthwhile if you like celebrity conspiracy theories, there's quite a few. Avril Lavigne is another one who has allegedly been replaced!

Sparklesocks · 25/04/2020 22:28

@Bounceyflouency ooh yes I had heard that! And the fake one direction baby was a fun one too!! Thanks for the tip, clearly there are many dead popstars with doppelgängers out there!! Grin

1555CC · 25/04/2020 22:29

Can’t you have friends with different opinions to yours?

I have many friends with different opinions. What I won't put up with is pigshit thick people who believe utter bollocks. They can't be my friends.
