AIBU not to agree with any just to keep the peace? She is always going on about one conspiracy or another. Vaccines, covid19, the Government etc etc. Did man land on the moon? Did the men in grey kill Diana?

Does anybody else have a conspiracy theory we can put to bed??

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned on here yet but I have a friend who is convinced that this virus isn’t real and has been made up so that the UK can come up with a vaccine and then the UK will be hailed ‘heroes who saved the planet’

Which will reverse brexit! Hmm

Sockmonster23 · 26/04/2020 12:10

I enjoy reading stuff, some are very plausible . Years ago before Saville, Epstein came out conspiracies were going round that certain members of powerful families were involved in very horrible stuff. People were like yeah whatever but it came out, pobably more than we will ever know.

I read the papers and watch the News and so much rubbish, contradictions and full on lies so what really is a conspiracy?

We are living in different times, and I dare say question things and just because a person has a different opinion and isn't inciting hatred towards other fellow humans/living beings I see no problems with questioning stuff and believing maybe something isn't quite right with what we are officially told .

Mittens030869 · 26/04/2020 12:34

Some conspiracy theories have merit; it's possible that there was more to the assassination of JFK, that's an idea that I wouldn't discount at all. I also didn't entirely debunk my uncle when he suggested a conspiracy behind 9/11 because he had worked for the UN for many years, so wasn't just 'someone on Twitter'.

Re Princess Di, I didn't dismiss it. I read up on it and concluded that it was highly unlikely, mainly because she would very likely have survived if she had just been wearing a seatbelt. (I didn't suspect the Royal Family, as they would surely have been better prepared for it if they had contrived it themselves. But I did wonder whether it might have had a connection with her landmine campaign.)

I'm a SA survivor, and my F was part of a paedophile network, so I certainly wouldn't dismiss suggestions about sexual abusers in high places. There's also a lot of corruption involved with sex trafficking.

Re the moon landings, I don't believe there's any basis for thinking there was a conspiracy involved. If there were, surely the Russians would have encouraged this theory? Plus what's the explanation in that case for what happened with Apollo 13, a mission that didn't succeed, and when the astronauts very nearly didn't succeed in getting back from space safely?

Other conspiracy theories are completely ridiculous, for example Flat Earth exponents or those now suggesting COVID-19 doesn't exist.

It's not a case of either/or for goodness sake, it's a case of weighing up the evidence and deciding whether a conspiracy is likely or not.

PenOrPencil · 26/04/2020 12:37

I am still Facebook friends with somebody from school and used to read her crazy, mostly anti vax posts for light entertainment. She has definitely taken it up a notch, though, and I have just reported one of her posts for anti Semitic hate speech - some bullshit about how Lady Gaga is a Jewish illuminatus out for world domination. The details were absolutely sickening.

TARSCOUT · 26/04/2020 12:37

Best conspiracy theory concerns the freaking fabulous weather in Scotland. People would not be so biddable if it was our normal weather!!!! Makes me.wonder now about weather manipulation!

Purpletigers · 26/04/2020 12:52

People are injecting “ Youngblood” in the hopes of staying young or perhaps not aging any more . There are numerous credible articles if you look online .
Conspiracy theories are like everything , there will be some truth to some of them . I have an acquaintance who is obsessed with the Rothschilds and the world banks . Makes for some interesting conversations 🤔

Iwouldlikesomecake · 26/04/2020 12:53

But for the past few years it’s been lovely over this time of year. I will tell you how I know: between 2014-2019 I worked either full time or part time at a theme park on an outdoor show. So yes you remember if the weather was shit!

I used to wear factor 50 suncream from April to October. But it was rainy over Easter weekend 2014 cos I remember dropping a radio into a pool and having to fish it out with loads of park guests watching me in the rain...

Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, yes. But not when it involves huge numbers of people. Like the one about how the NHS is all in on it with Covid being fake. It’s not provable by those of us working in the NHS saying it’s rubbish, because the answer will always be ‘but you would say that to keep up the cover story’.

I would rather covid was fake and I could have a proper day off actually. If I knew for a fact covid was fake I’d be round to my mum’s for a roast dinner!

Foghead · 26/04/2020 13:33

Interesting about the weather making us more biddable.
I heard that this has been planned since 1991 but they could only do it now because of the Internet. It’s made us more biddable and they can control us more.

Tdaadfb100 · 26/04/2020 13:37

I don’t know what to believe either. All I’m saying is keep an open mind and take a look.. if you want to. If not, don’t.
Fact is often stranger than fiction and we tend only believe what we know now.. but don’t be so quick to ridicule those who may know more than us. There is an awful lot going on out there that we have no idea about. Only time will tell.

Helmetbymidnight · 26/04/2020 13:51

this has been planned since 1991

who planned it?

Cherrysoup · 26/04/2020 14:23

What if it wasn’t a mistake though?

Like China realised they have an ageing population and their one child policy has meant there’s no one to look after them? So they deliberately released a virus to kill off the older generation? I mentioned this to a friend at the very start, only half joking! She totally sucked it up.

AntiSocialDistancer · 26/04/2020 14:26

As I have written this today I see the first spots of rain Grin

It may normally be a nice April - but I remember sending my kids into school in their winter coats and then the next week after lock down playing in the garden in shorts and t-shirts with sunscreen on...

kittensinspace · 26/04/2020 14:31

I quite enjoy conspiracy theorists, they keep life interesting.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 26/04/2020 14:32

Ah, conspiracy theorists. They like to encourage everyone to “question everything”. Apart from the bullshit they share all over Facebook, of course. They don’t like you questioning that for some reason.

Latest one that’s just been shared by a conspiracy wanker I know: “COVID19 is all in capitals so it is in fact a corporation”

WTF?

Pineapplemonkey · 26/04/2020 14:35

No one’s mentioned one of my favourites (unless I missed it obvs). Cancer was cured years ago but all the big drug companies are keeping it under wraps as they make so much money from cancer drugs. Someone I used to work with came out with this gem one day at work, more surprisingly was the number of people that thought it believable. Imagine the number of people who would be keeping that a secret, thousands and thousands, all without a moral compass and all with no family/friends affected by cancer/could be saved by the secret drug and yet still keep quiet about it.........

tinkerbellla · 26/04/2020 14:49

I don't really believe conspiracy theories but love hearing them and toying with them being true... I do wonder about some of the Covid ones. Not the 5G one obviously. That's just ridiculous.

1555CC · 26/04/2020 15:25

A PP said something about respecting other people's opinions.
I don't think you have to at all. You can respect their right to hold opinions but how can you respect actual opinions that you think are nonsense?

Spot on. People confuse tolerance with respect. I have to be tolerant of people's right to believe utter bollocks. But I do not have to respect anyone that believes utter bollocks.

Not only do I have no respect for conspiracy theory crackpots, I also have no respect for anyone that says we should have respect for them.

DingoDing · 26/04/2020 16:24

@Piglet89
What jumped out at me is this from the second paragraph:

there is so far no evidence being offered to support this suggestion

DingoDing · 26/04/2020 16:30

@Tdaadfb100
I still don't get what the problem is with id2020 - they are trying to extend rights to those who don't have them and protect privacy for those who do.

Navelwort · 26/04/2020 17:00

All I’m saying is keep an open mind and take a look.

But where are you suggesting we 'take a look', @Tdaadfb100? If we discount print media, the news organisations, tv, the work of scholars, historians, journalists, what are the alternative credible sources you are suggesting we look to for other narratives?

Helmetbymidnight · 26/04/2020 17:14

ive asked absolutely basic questions here of our conspiracy theorists- none answered - as per usual.

how can you pretend to be these superior wise thinkers if you cant even begin to examine your claims?

emwithme · 26/04/2020 17:33

The thing is, the moon landings were meant to be fake, but NASA hired Stanley Kubrick to direct and he insisted on a location shoot.

Naturalbornkiller · 26/04/2020 17:45

Cancer was cured years ago but all the big drug companies are keeping it under wraps as they make so much money from cancer drugs.

Again there is a grain of truth. There are cancer treatments avaliable that the vast majority don't have acsess too because they are too expensive. The current main cancer treatment is cut it out, or poisen it before you kill the host, which may in fact cause more cancer. Apparently there has been research into promesing alternative treatments but they can't get the funding because they are more to do with supporting the immune existing system. And of course the best weapon against cancer is getting rid of all the cancer causing crap from our diets and environments - but that wouldn't be good for the corporations would it.

Piglet89 · 26/04/2020 18:17

@emwithme brilliant.

mencken · 26/04/2020 18:39

OP, why are you wasting any of your precious time on this planet with such a stupid person? Conspiracy theorists seem to take pride in lack of critical thinking skills and scientific knowledge.

and there is often an intersection with racist views too.

just dump. Hope no-one breeds with this person.
