Clearly everyone is having a different experience of the current situation. It seems to me from the posts here and elsewhere that MN is full of people searching for threads from people either asking genuinely when others think the restrictions may be reduced, or people expressing mental or emotional.distress due to being locked away, sometimes alone. The pattern is the OP posts, there are a couple of sympathetic/in the case of lockdown speculation dovish opinions then the Depressor swoops, usually with a formulation along the lines of:
If you think these restrictions will be lifted anytime soon you are a naïve fool. Christmas will be cancelled and things will never fully return to normal

In the threads expressing mental distress their standard formulation is a variety of:
FFS pull yourselves together. It's been (insert number) weeks, how the F do you think people coped in the war the. All you are being asked to do is stay in and watch Netflix

There seems to be a remarkably large number of people among this cohort who claim grandparental involvement in WW1/2 and have a partner/sibling serving as a front line NHS worker. These depressors seem to scour MN looking to pounce on people expressing povs like the above.

Can we just start posting a dementor gif under posts by said dementors ? As a sort of secret symbol of dementor-spotters ?

Kinda looks like one 🤷🏻‍♀️

It'll be the new biscuit. Like an inverted biscuit. But then maybe that would the muggles just as bad as the dementor 😂

Can you just imagine the Dementors in Gilead

Grin "Blessed be the fruit" "HOW DARE YOU, there will never be fruit in the shops again."

I can imagine them doing the government daily press conference though. "What a stupid STUPID QUESTION! Asking about sector-specific support for the hospitality industry at a time when there is a killer virus on the loose? You know full well we'll never go on holiday again because we're all going to spend the next twenty years in lockdown and by that time capitalism will have collapsed and we'll all be living off dead badgers, if we're LUCKY. My mother's cousin's dog sitter is working on the front lines and I can't even imagine her face if I told her people were really thinking of trivial things like businesses going under at a time like this! I DESPAIR. Okay next question: Beth Rigby from Sky?"

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 27/04/2020 19:48

It's never the person's personal responsibility is it, if someone gets covid, it is never considered that maybe it could have been them who didn't wash their hands or something, it is always that someone else did something out of order / breaking rules to give it to them

Yeah, thats so true! We all absentmindedly touch our faces sometimes and none of us are perfect but yes, its never, ever that person's fault- its always someone else who is breaking the rules who gave it to them in a clear attempt to "murder them!" and even worse, it was probably someone who wasnt completely miserable - the virus KNOWS that, IT KNOWS our mood!

I saw that thread Chockablok, someone was comparing the hugger to Typhoid Mary.ShockGrin

I waited in a long queue outside a supermarket on Saturday and one person was being allowed in as another left.. A lady came along, went to the top of the queue and was let in immediately because she's an nhs worker. The security guard walked down the line to tell us that he always let nurses in , they were angels etc. There was loud endorsement of his decision the whole way down the queue and it was really cringy for want of a better word. I felt uncomfortable because I didn't loudly praise her and all I could think was why didn't he wait and let her in when another person left. There's a herd instinct abounding at present which is really uncomfortable.

Willitneverend · 27/04/2020 20:04

@goldenomber I have people on my FB carrying on exactly like this. A journalist asked a question about the economy and this was a clear sign that he was steeped in evil and wanted everyone forced to out to work in crowded conditions to die. The next day someone asked about Christmas and this was ridiculous as there is a KILLER VIRUS and we should all be grateful if we have some leather to chew on at Christmas.

Delta1 · 27/04/2020 20:08

Best thread I've seen since this all started! You are my people and I love the ♟!. It's so dementor-y!

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/04/2020 20:12

Oh my god
At last
Thank fuck there is still some sanity on here

BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/04/2020 20:18

"Blessed be the fruit" "HOW DARE YOU, there will never be fruit in the shops again."

I hope the blessed fruit has been picked by furloughed workers who accept paying to live in a caravan with 9 other people and working 14 hour days, otherwise they just aren’t doing their bit in this Time Of National Crisis Grin

Is it possible to flout and flaunt at the same time?

I’m certainly going to give it a try. I’m going to go to Waitrose twice in the same weekend in full slap, ball gown and heels #flauntingandflouting

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 20:20

"Blessed be the fruit" "HOW DARE YOU, there will never be fruit in the shops again."

I don't know why this has made me laugh so much!

I also love the new ♟

Alsohuman · 27/04/2020 20:22

♟ is brilliant. Can’t wait to see it appear on other threads.

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 20:22

@BrightYellowDaffodil and don't forget they should be doing it for free - so perhaps paying the farmer for their accommodation?

BogRollBOGOF · 27/04/2020 20:47

I'm so going to snigger next time I do my quiet Handmaid shuffle around the fresh groceries section of the supermarket.

We're having too much fun with our comedic observations of the ♟to ironicly be one ourselves. Far too hedonistic for this national crisis Grin

Daffodil101 · 27/04/2020 20:53

OMG I’ve found my fucking tribe.

Esprohuy · 27/04/2020 20:55

♟ is brilliant. Kind of looks like a judge's gavel which seems appropriate enough.
I wonder what Crimes Against the National Crisis others have committed? I'll admit to having eaten a Rowntree Fruit Ice Cream earlier today, plus I had a relatively enjoyable walk and read a Guardian article about a guy looking forward to holidaying in Berlin when restrictions end. I don't know where to start with abasing myself. I should really sit in a corner repeating "STAYATHOMEPROTECTTHENHSSAVELIVES" as a mantra while eating only cold porridge for 4 weeks.(which obviously will only be a drop in the ocean as the lockdown is certain to continue until the next Ice Age)

OP posts:
Daffodil101 · 27/04/2020 20:57

I’ve got to say, I thought it was a massive dildo.

I need new glasses but the optician will NEVER reopen.

Drivingdownthe101 · 27/04/2020 20:58

4 weeks Esprohuy? 4 WEEKS?! Are you insane?? Do you want to murder your mother?! Think 4 years and you’ll be close.

Drivingdownthe101 · 27/04/2020 20:59

How can you even think of going to the opticians at a time like this Daffodil101?

Alsohuman · 27/04/2020 21:01

Yes, be grateful you’re not blind.

justasking111 · 27/04/2020 21:04

Oh god looking for the gif, I found the dementors kiss Shock

FallonSwift · 27/04/2020 21:20

If you cared about saving lives, you'd happily go blind as part of the National Effort.

Esprohuy · 27/04/2020 21:27

Yes driving I admit I was being optimistic with my 4 weeks. Probably something to to with the white wine I sprinkled on my veggie burger earlier (yes I know I'm racking up crimes like a Great Train Robber). Cold porridge because someone I know who doesn't exist but is high up in Mossad told me they are cutting off the gas electricity oil air and water soon. And all I do is sit here and eat fecking CurlyWurlies and risking the lives of others including frontline operatives.

OP posts:
BrightYellowDaffodil · 27/04/2020 21:28

I wonder what Crimes Against the National Crisis others have committed?

I’m opening a bottle of Prosecco just for the hell of it. Shall I hand myself in now?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 27/04/2020 21:30

I think there is an almost "victim blaming" edge to some of it.
"If you had quarantined as perfectly as I am then you wouldn't have caught covid"
They seem to think that by following " the roolz" that it will somehow make them invincible against covid
And don't get me started on the wankers who don't understand why we have "lockdown " and social distancing
