It tastes like petrol to me.

@OscarWildesCat I'm the garden having one now. Lovely Gin

Ginfordinner · 25/04/2020 16:18

Eyes the sun, waiting for it to sink under the yard arm.

OscarWildesCat · 25/04/2020 16:28

@amazedmummy I'm trying a Negroni, my sister got me a gin pack for my birthday and it was in with it, I'm not convinced, I'll be back on the Hendricks soon. Have you tried Arbikie gin (also called Kirstys gin)?, its lush!. Enjoy.....

Nottherealslimshady · 25/04/2020 16:37

Cant stand most alcohol unless it tastes like it'll rot your teeth! Wine tastes like mould to me, like that smell when somethings gone really bad in the fridge, that's what red wine tastes of.

Greenpop21 · 25/04/2020 16:53

I’m late 40s and have liked gin since my 30s. Dislike the flavoured gins, they really are a different drink entirely.
I really dislike the way gin is served now. Don’t mind the fishbowl glass but far too much ice!!

Oldsu · 25/04/2020 17:28

I usually can't drink as I have gastric reflux but at Christmas I had a glass of Gordons Pink Gin which tasted like strawberries it was lovely - but I miss my old drink JD and Coke

TheBeesKnee · 25/04/2020 17:31

I think it's one of those things, you either have the taste profile or you don't. I read that people who like gin also enjoy black coffee, for example, and that's certainly true for me.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 25/04/2020 17:34

You may have a point there BeesKnee, I don't like coffee! I've tried more than once but can't stand it.

I've tried coffee more than once and it tastes like dirt, gin is good though. Maybe I'm just odd.

I was influenced by this thread, I bought a bottle of tonic water thinking it would be refreshing with ice and lemon.

What IS pink gin? Berry infused gin, or straight gin with angostura bitters? I keep hearing it mentioned so feel curious!

TooTrueToBeGood · 25/04/2020 18:11

What IS pink gin?

Traditionally, pink gin was gin with Angostura bitters. However, quite a few companies are now using the term for berry-infused gins. I don't think I've ever seen traditional pink gin in a bottle - you would always buy gin and add Angostura bitters separately - so if you see a bottle of "pink gin" in the shops it's almost certainly berry flavoured.

Glittertwins · 25/04/2020 18:30

I like gin because it's not too sweet. Seaweed is my favourite at the moment but I do like the flavoured ones as long as it's gin and not gin liquor. I don't like black coffee so I'm an anomaly to what a PP said earlier

anxietrist · 25/04/2020 18:34

No. Or any alcohol for that matter.

CSIblonde · 25/04/2020 18:35

It's refreshing if you measure it out properly, just a capful is enough with lots of tonic. Other drinks are very sickly sweet. Apart from Peach schnapps which is nectar of the Gods.

Ginfordinner · 25/04/2020 18:35

I like proper, dry London gin that tastes of juniper, but I dislike black coffee as is tastes too "thin".

Bubbletrouble43 · 25/04/2020 18:52

Gin lover here. I find it refreshing, tasty and hangover free ( discovered this one Christmas session with my brother when we got carried away and drank about 12, no hangover at all!) win win.

MaybeKatie · 25/04/2020 18:52

It tastes rank to me but I think I have a very 'immature palate'. I'm autistic and have a lot of sensory problems with certain strong flavours and especially bitter and sour flavours.

I don't like any of the 'normal' mixers you'd have with gin, either, so that probably doesn't help. Tonic is horrible and I'm not a massive fan of citrus flavours in general.

But I also think coffee tastes revolting and that it literally smells of shit (the number of times I've started glaring at the pets for the smell in the kitchen only to realise it's the coffee maker is ridiculous - nobody else I know has ever confused the two smells!) so what do I know!?

Much prefer wine and tea!

Frownette · 25/04/2020 18:58

Ah thanks @TooTrueToBeGood

Frankola · 25/04/2020 19:29

I used to hate it. But my tastes must have changed as now I love it. It's the same with red wine.

Although both the above give me a banging headache!

berryhead2013 · 25/04/2020 20:25

@Curiosity101 have never tried grapefruit what a cracking idea

user1511042793 · 25/04/2020 20:27

Love it. My husband doesn’t he likes bourbon. I hate it. Neither of us would try and change each other’s mind. So what’s your problem?

Curiosity101 · 25/04/2020 20:32

@berryhead2013 I can't claim any credit Smile. Me and DH went to a food and drink festival and got chatting to one of the people at a fancy Gin booth.

Enjoy! Grin

formerbabe · 25/04/2020 20:34

Really hate gin. I barely drink but if I do, I like a vodka

Ginfordinner · 25/04/2020 20:40

Vodka doesn't taste of anything other than the mixer you have with it.

TooTrueToBeGood · 25/04/2020 20:45

Vodka doesn't taste of anything other than the mixer you have with it.

I've heard that said often and yet for me vodka has a very distinctive taste, that I personally don't like, and I can taste it with mixers. We all have variances in our of taste I would guess.
