It tastes like petrol to me.

Mmmm gin! On my third tonight!

countrygirl99 · 24/04/2020 21:22

I didn't like it until late 30s. I guess it's a grown up taste

babbi · 24/04/2020 21:28

So many different gins .. keep trying until you find one you like .

I work for a drinks 🍸 company .. big shout out to all consumers currently keeping me in a job 👍🏻

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 24/04/2020 21:34

Excellent effort Samtsirch ...have you partaken?

It's awful stuff, tastes like hairspray to me. It does seem to be the trendy drink at the moment though, god knows why. I do find there is an air of smuggery from those who drink it

OscarWildesCat · 24/04/2020 21:40

Peoples tastes are different?

MadameF · 24/04/2020 21:44

My mother loved a gin and tonic.
I got very drunk on gin aged 17 and hate it now, plus all spirits. Could happily drink red wine every night but even with a cupboard full of spirits I wouldn't touch them.

superram · 24/04/2020 21:45

Drink home made raspberry gin with bitter lemon.

Almostfifty · 24/04/2020 21:46

I did a couple of nights a week in my pal's pub when I was pregnant and obviously not drinking.

I love beer, but could pour pints and pints of the stuff without any problem. Gin and tonic on the other hand, I inhaled it every time I poured tonic into a gin. Fabulous stuff.

Neves7 · 24/04/2020 21:51

Tastes like trees

amazedmummy · 24/04/2020 22:34

Reminded me I was going to have one tonight but I forgot. Tomorrow I'll remember.
I didn't think I liked gin. Turns out I don't like naff gin. I like a Hendricks with cucumber tonic and a slice of cucumber and ice. I don't like whisky, tea or coffee though. To each their own.

OscarWildesCat · 24/04/2020 22:47

@amazedmummy my perfect gin too, lovely. Cheers

TheClitterati · 24/04/2020 22:49

I love g&t. It's all about the juniper

Tonight for a change I made a margarita- I usually only drink those out. It was magnificent- one was enough though.

MsJuniper · 24/04/2020 22:50

I used to drink vodka and orange at university and at some point (after some painful hangovers and bad decisions) decided I needed to change to a drink I couldn't just throw back so quickly, so I started drinking gin & tonic. So in fact it was because I didn't like it as much! I have a very sweet tooth and usually can't bear bitter flavours. I would sip gin far more gingerly and it saved my purse and dignity.

I did grow to enjoy the taste, but it surprised me when it suddenly surged in popularity.

GreytExpectations · 24/04/2020 22:56

What exactly is the point of these threads? There is this magical thing in life called different tastes. Everyone has their own and it means the like and dislike different things. There's no "Allure" and you aren't better than anyone by not liking it. Just some people do, and some people don't. Personally, I've discovered the people who don't like gin tend to like the sickly sweet drinks where you might as well be drinking fizzy juice, but hey guess gin is more of a taste for the matured.

There is no right or wrong way. Seems like a odd topic to start a thread on.

wowfudge · 24/04/2020 22:58

Why post on the thread then? Someone who isn't a fan is asking what it is about it that appeals to others. What's wrong with that? She's trying to understand someone's different taste.

MitziK · 24/04/2020 23:01

It tastes nice. I don't like sweetened drinks - the only exception is good sloe or damson gin.

Gordon's is foul. Plymouth is the only brand worth drinking IMO.

Boulshired · 24/04/2020 23:01

Got into the flavoured gin for a while but forgot how much I liked just plain G & T. Has to be ice cold and I like a squeeze of fresh lemon.

Russellbrandshair · 24/04/2020 23:02

Yeah I agree. It’s weirdly oily and dry at the same time. A herbal, greasy, pungent water.

Gross

Purpleartichoke · 24/04/2020 23:04

So many better spirits.

SciFiWoman · 24/04/2020 23:09

We could ask my Dm... she was such a big fan, that she preferred it to feeding and caring for us kids... She loved it neat, straight from the bottle, right up to the day it killed her, aged just 48.

Ketchupqueen1 · 24/04/2020 23:26

It’s a last resort for me. If I’ve got nothing else on and there is gin in the cupboard and tonic in the fridge then I’ll have it.

Ketchupqueen1 · 24/04/2020 23:26

In not on

HackAttack · 24/04/2020 23:29

Nope
