It tastes like petrol to me.

I’m not keen, I think it’s the tonic I don’t like. Although I once went to a gin bar and the barman made me a gin fizz which was really nice (disclaimer I was also quite drunk).

I’m patiently waiting for vodka to be the new gin. Me and vodka get on very well Gin

indemMUND · 24/04/2020 23:41

Nope. Tastes like how pinecones smell. Never liked it and just don't get the appeal.

Sonichu · 24/04/2020 23:46

"Grown up taste" God, how pretentious. I love sour and bitter flavours but gin tastes like how Magic Trees smell. There's nothing "grown up" about liking things that others don't.

Twofurrycatsagain · 24/04/2020 23:46

Nope tastes like perfume to me. Friends who have tried to convert me have given me a soup bowl on a stem filled with pink liquid and half a fruit salad which doesn't have any resemblance to gin. So I don't think they like gin either.

KitNCaboodle · 24/04/2020 23:53

As others have said it’s lots about the tonic. I’m actually not a fan of Fever Tree. Much rather Double Dutch, London Essence or Schweppes 1783.

Try Cabin Pressure, Gin Mare or Silent Pool gins.

Or
Sevilla orange gin with ginger ale.

Or a mulled sloe gin (my absolute favourite winter drink)

Or damson gin neat, over lots of ice.

Mmmmmmmm

Whenever I see the title of this thread I think of Mranda and "The Allure" 🤣

MyBlueMoonbeam · 24/04/2020 23:55

Loved Gin since I was a young thing in the 80s 🙃

furling · 24/04/2020 23:56

Lots of gin with a drop of vermouth - lovely.
Single gin with tonic - nah.
The allure for me is that it looks like water and it doesn't make your breath smell. My DH doesn't approve of drinking.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 25/04/2020 00:06

Gin with Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic is excellent - it's a nice light tonic that brings out the flavour of the gin.

Bonkerz · 25/04/2020 00:12

It's not the gin it's the tonic that's gross. You need a good mixer. A few favourites of mine are fentimens dandelion and burdock, rose lemonade, cherryade, dalstons rhubarb soda. Amazing with gin.

ViciousJackdaw · 25/04/2020 00:50

Gin can be very nice but it does not agree with me at all, makes me very argumentative so I steer clear.

Anoisagusaris · 25/04/2020 00:56

I’ve loved gin and tonic for years. Prefer a basic gin and tonic than sweeter versions of either. I love that it’s not a sweet drink but is very refreshing.

Veganella · 25/04/2020 00:58

Gin and tonic is just absolutely vile.
Flavoured gin with lemonade is lovely especially pink gin

whatisthenewnormal · 25/04/2020 01:07

It's gin, a traditional drink, with lemonade with gran or the E Phiz of the late 90's it's London or Plymouth

whatisthenewnormal · 25/04/2020 01:10

And then just good gin with a good tonic if it's London, and as is if it's Plymouth

DariaMorgendorffer · 25/04/2020 01:11

I absolutely love gin. On its own. With vermouth. In a cocktail. And nothing more refreshing than a cool, clean, crisp g&t. What's not to love!

StarbucksSmarterSister · 25/04/2020 01:17

I took my first sip of G & T around 40 years ago and thought it was awful. Fortunately I tried again and never looked back . I don't like Beefeater or Hendricks but love Bombay and Tanqueray; not all gins taste the same.

Gin and tonic is divine. Flavoured gins are the work of the devil.

MMN123 · 25/04/2020 01:46

Gordon’s pink gin, fever tree elderflower tonic, three raspberries and an ice cube.

Yum. Doesn’t taste of petrol!

Igotthemheavyboobs · 25/04/2020 05:39

I love gin, but just plain ol' Gordon's with tonic water and a slice of lime. Perfect.

Can't be doing with the flavoured ones, really wanted to like pink gin but it's grim. And palma violet gin, just why?

theBelgranoSisters · 25/04/2020 05:50

Had to laugh@Thingdogetbetter that is how i discovered the merits of gin+anything(but tonic)..so maybe try bitter lemon, schwepps agrium, Midori(makes it pretty-looking haha) but chuck the rank tonic water-originally an antimalarial aid in colonialRaj i think that says it all.

Makes me depressed!

homeschoolchaos · 25/04/2020 06:21

They’re all so different - just because you didn’t like one doesn’t mean there isn’t another you would like. My favourite is Tarquins, which has a light, crisp taste, and a hint of orange in there somewhere. I like elderflower tonic, or ginger beer. I agree that it has to be ice cold, and adding in some lime does wonders. I tend to be lighter on the gin and heavier on the tonic. I tried a gin at Winchester Christmas Market that had lots of lavender - was vile, tasted like soap!

luckylavender · 25/04/2020 06:58

I love it. Can't stand vodka though.

dontdisturbmenow · 25/04/2020 07:02

It's alcohol, fashionable and talking about gin and wanting one makes you sound trendy. It's enough for many people!
