I cannot take this working from home any more.

Anyone else the same?

My husband says My Wife no biggie.

I call my work colleagues mate because that's what they are Confused. They reciprocate the sentiment. ConfusedConfused

Might be my first Biscuit

PickAChew · 20/04/2020 23:08

I'm fine with being the missus, see the dragon comment. In return I get to nag him without compunction when he's less than thoughtful.

PickAChew · 20/04/2020 23:12

And it's not derogatory, it's northern.

PickAChew · 20/04/2020 23:13

My mum hates it, though!

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/04/2020 23:13

If you are legally married, then you are "Missus" (Mrs.)

MArried threee times, never again, and I have never been Mrs. Always Ms. It isnt a legal thing at all.

Blackbear19 · 20/04/2020 23:18

"my old dear" I'd take that to be his mother rather than his wife.
The same as "my old man" I'd take to be his father or Bobs old man / dear is Bob's father / mother.

frockdestroyer · 20/04/2020 23:30

Could be worse. As he is working from home, I have discovered my DP uses phrases like "great to see we are singing from the same hymn sheet" and "let's touch base on that tomorrow"

I swear if I hear anything about "blue sky thinking" I'm leaving him.

@user1471565182

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

“Thing about Arsenal is, they always try and walk it in.”

BetsyBigNose · 20/04/2020 23:41

I call DH "The Boy Wonder", can't even remember why now!

echt · 20/04/2020 23:54

And it's not derogatory, it's northern

Its provenance is neither here nor there; so is "wench".

Both derogatory.

livefornaps · 21/04/2020 00:07

I'm in the doghouse tonight because Him Indoors overheard me talking to co-workers on zoom and referring to him as Mr Floppy (for good reason). Oops!

Blackbear19 · 21/04/2020 00:15

Mr FloppyBlushGrin

Kljnmw3459 · 21/04/2020 00:32

I think my dh has occasionally referred to me as the missus which I love when he says it in his beautiful accent. I also love to hear him in business mode, he is unbelievably confident and charming. Much more shy when he's in non-work mode. Which is adorable as well.

h3av3n · 21/04/2020 03:42

These are totally normal uk terms...

Downunderduchess · 21/04/2020 04:06

I call heaps of people mate, especially at work, it’s very commonplace in Australia. And referring to your wife as my/the missus is as well. None of it is taken as derogatory.

Oblomov20 · 21/04/2020 04:35

Most of these make me cringe a tiny bit. I just don't like any of them. Most of them are just derogatory.

IceCreamWaffles · 21/04/2020 04:44

I couldn't get worked up over it, it's common English parlance. But if you've asked him not to then it's disrespectful.

IceCreamWaffles · 21/04/2020 04:46

My friend, who gets on very well with his MIL, has her saved as Old Trout in his phone! His wife found out when she borrowed his phone to call her, and was puzzled when she couldn’t find her by her proper name!

😂

My friend discovered that I had him as Forrest Plump in my phone (he's a tree surgeon).

BuddingBuddy · 21/04/2020 06:46

He calls me The Mrs sometimes. He's saved in my phone as Husband Number 1.

When it's just us he calls me 'squishy' because I used to be a bit chubby when we met 😂 'Hey Squishy, how was work?'. I love it, I don't know why Grin I call him lanky bastard 🤷

I've had plenty of silly, jokey names for him over the years too.

LunariaAlba · 21/04/2020 07:04

My DP has all of his phone contacts listed with surname first so it's rather formal when I come up on his phone.

Rezie · 21/04/2020 07:19

Names for wife I dislike the most are:
The government
Mama (older men do this)
Mistress
Not a fan of "the" whatever either.

TidyDancer · 21/04/2020 07:28

DP and I call each other mate all the time. We were friends for a long time before being a couple. He also calls me sugar tits and babe which I'm sure some would hate. To his colleagues on zoom, I'm my name or the missus or the smart one.

Ichayetheneu · 21/04/2020 07:30

My assistant referred to his wife as ‘her indoors’ the mrs and the wife, despite being under 40 and working in a modern, female heavy professional business.
It made him sound like a twat to the younger staff and most of the women, so I gently suggested he just used her name. He’s an awkward, shy bugger tho so I think it was just that, he found it weird referring to her in work for some reason.
The blokes at work who call everyone ‘mate’ are also pretty old school and it ages them I think.

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 21/04/2020 17:30

I get called 'wor lass' and I hate it. Especially as I'm a Geordie and he is not, therefore 'wor lass' in a mancunian accent sounds horrendous!

You could be called worse than the Missus to be fair

DanceItOut · 21/04/2020 17:31

My husband says the same. Mate and the Mrs. I find it annoying that he suddenly turns into Jack the lad when talking to work colleagues or friends on the phone but honestly I can’t be bothered to start a disagreement over it. His swearing on the other hand I might leave him over if he doesn’t start controlling his mouth in front of the children.
