I cannot take this working from home any more.

Anyone else the same?

Some of these are great.

To my knowledge, DH doesn’t refer to me in unflattering terms. But I was in earshot the other day when he was on a Very Important Call with his CEO (works for a FTSE100) and rang off the call with ‘cheers mate’. I shot him a look as he hung up and the look of mortification on his face was a picture Grin thankfully I don’t think the CEO heard....

Devlesko · 20/04/2020 21:50

Mine introduces me as "this is the wife, don't laugh"
Or, "this is my wife Devvy, I know, you'd expect taller"

It's funny as long as they can introduce you properly when required.

mumwon · 20/04/2020 21:52

grew up in oz - I say mate a lot except to - my mate Grin - sometimes you can say mate sarcastically as a very effective put down - ie listen mate!

lowlandLucky · 20/04/2020 21:57

I get called "her in doors" or "my old dear" doesnt bother me one iota

grisen · 20/04/2020 22:00

@CandyLeBonBon haha no he’s not a Neil

snowegg · 20/04/2020 22:01

TBH the biggest shock for me listening to video calls is that my DH is capable of polite conversation and smalltalk. He just grunts in RL.

PyongyangKipperbang · 20/04/2020 22:12

Pa worked from home quite a lot before he retired and his phone voice was fucking hilarious!

He is from Staffs/S.Derbys border so although not the full on "Ey up me duck" he does have a regional accent. Not so on a work call, he is full home counties, up to and including changing from the grass pronunciation to grarse. Me and ma used to have hysterics if I was there when he was on the phone!

MrsFruitcake · 20/04/2020 22:16

I'm usually referred to as Ma'am. Grin

MadameMeursault · 20/04/2020 22:17

My friend, who gets on very well with his MIL, has her saved as Old Trout in his phone! His wife found out when she borrowed his phone to call her, and was puzzled when she couldn’t find her by her proper name!

Osirus · 20/04/2020 22:26

Crikey, with lockdown some of the current “AIBU” threads (including this one!) are really scraping the barrel.

MsAwesomeDragon · 20/04/2020 22:33

My dh annoys me something chronic when he's on work calls. He answers each one with "Ay up fella" then is obviously asked how he is and he responds "not baaaad, not baaaad" in some really bad "Southern" geezer accent. I can't even vaguely place the accent as it's just so tremendously awful. He's Scottish. His normal voice is lovely. Yet he puts on this really awful voice when he's talking to his boss (it's a small company, only his boss ever has reason to phone him, the rest communicate by email).

I don't understand it. I have to put my earphones in every time his phone rings, just so I can't hear it.

He doesn't call me the missus though. He calls me "darling love pants" to my face, and "my wife" or ", you know, my wife" when talking about me to other people.

FrothyB · 20/04/2020 22:35

I work with a guy who refers to his wife as "the enemy" which is actually amusing as he's incredibly devoted to his wife and loves her to bits.

Now that I think about it, it could be because one is Northern Irish and the other is from the Republic, Protestant and Catholic.

I either say "my partner" or I use her name when mentioning my partner. Even with things meant in good humour I know she'd find it incredibly disrespectful if I referred to her in any of the typical British sland terms. It doesn't seem to be the way things are done where she's from.

I do use mate alot though, or Dude, or boss. As you can imagine, my work doesn't involve me taking conference calls.

IgiveupallthenamesIwantedareg0 · 20/04/2020 22:37

If you are legally married, then you are "Missus" (Mrs.) what's wrong with that? There are a lot worse names out there that your husband could use.. I have a double name - kept my maiden name and hung on my husband's surname with a hyphen - to keep my own identity but show the world I was also happy to be Mrs. xyz.

Batqueen · 20/04/2020 22:41

I’m usually referred to as the ‘chief decision maker’

CoffeeCakeCream · 20/04/2020 22:42

I am 'The Enemy'

succulento · 20/04/2020 22:42

Just checked with DH - apparently I'm 'The Boss' when he refers to me among colleagues Grin

I told him I might promote him.

honeyloops · 20/04/2020 22:44

Hahaha @ItsJustTheOneSwanActually I hope you worked with my dad - he had my mum saved as The War Office for years! That was probably earned on her behalf to be honest... Nowadays I would hate it if my OH referred to me as the missus in a work context, it feels a bit dismissive. But it very much depends on tone and context I guess.

Pebbles574 · 20/04/2020 22:45

This is such a bloke thing I think, it's just that we're now all noticing it!

DH has a 'bloke voice' he uses whenever talking to builders, window cleaner, decorators etc which would probably include 'mate' and 'the wife' (as opposed to 'my wife').

It's cringeworthy, but it's an attempt at male bonding.

JammyGem · 20/04/2020 22:49

I have a new interim manager during the lockdown who calls everyone on our team "mate" - it makes me smile Smile
DH just calls me "my wife", at least when I'm around anyway. DF refers to DM as "Head Office" Grin

user1471565182 · 20/04/2020 22:53

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

GabsAlot · 20/04/2020 22:54

apparently im referred to as the boss by dh-i sometimes say hes the old man

whats wrong with calling people mate

mrswarthog · 20/04/2020 22:55

At work, I & all my colleagues never call DH by his first name, but call him Mr Surname despite the fact that most of them know him really well. It started off as a joke and sort of carried on. He calls me Mother of Dragons (he's Welsh) to his colleagues.
We both have very grown up jobs 😂. As per PP, it's the intention that matters.

My BOYFRIEND also calls me the Mrs which I politely reminded him I am a miss as he is yet to marry me.

frasersmummy · 20/04/2020 23:02

My dh apparently set his ringtone to.the muppet theme only for when I called .. Much to the hilarity of his Co workers
