Neighbours and my WIFI

Hey!
Straight to point I got a new neighbour in my block of flat a few months ago and she asked for my wifi password to connect her console to so they could watch netflix.. i thought why not.. one other thing connected to it wont harm and she has just moved in.. it's her first home she hasn't had chance to set up her own yet. She then gets a new tv in the last few weeks and connects to my wifi but she has also connected her phone and her mates phone to it as well as they are picking up our google speakers on the network her mate joked they should play songs through my sons one in his room from their phones. So I have no idea how to change the password but would I be unreasonable to turn it off every night at 8PM? Considering we are in lockdown and she cant get her own during this time as they will need to come and connect it up. Previous tenant in that flat never had wifi either.

But watching Grace and her four lovely kittens born this morning at TinyKittens might be more relaxing than reading this thread.

Did anyone suggest OP should change the password Grin

Daftapath · 21/04/2020 17:54

@LovingLola I see someone has given a link to help which is good as it was years ago that I set it up!

I think you have to be on the desktop site rather than the app. Once you have changed your settings, op's posts will then be highlighted in the app as well though.

BabbleBee · 21/04/2020 17:58

Cancel the cheque.

WildfirePonie · 21/04/2020 18:13

This thread is making me want to scream full throttle into a cushion

Grin Grin Grin

CauliflowerBalti · 21/04/2020 18:19

Did the neighbour come and ask where her wifi went? I've read as much of the thread as I can without eating my own eyeballs, and I can't see an update.

You should cancel the cheque, btw OP.

JudyCoolibar · 21/04/2020 19:24

You may have time to read 17 or.so pages of chat to see who had/nt responded or whether the problem had been solved, or not.

Nope. However, I do have the sense to organise my settings so all the posts are on one page and OP's posts are highlighted so I can read them really very quickly indeed.

Why would i.care that the op had already sorted before offering to help.

You might care that accusing her of being stupid for not sorting the problem when she'd sorted it hours before doesn't reflect too well on you. Or maybe not.

bruffin · 21/04/2020 20:38

Not reading OPs updates before you post should be a bannable offenceGrin
Even if you cant set ops post as a different colour, just search the page for OPs name

Ginger1982 · 21/04/2020 21:18

"Why would i.care that the op had already sorted before offering to help."

Because there's no point in you fucking posting, is there? Idiot.

GabsAlot · 21/04/2020 22:12

cancel the cheque/internet

TwistyHair · 21/04/2020 22:27

This thread!!! Glad you sorted it OP. But I can’t stop laughing at the responses!

SeaSandandSun · 21/04/2020 23:30

Have you considered changing the password? Grin whistles sweetly and wanders off...

Sounds like she doesn’t quite have the balls to ask why she can’t access it now. You could have some fun changing the wifi name every day to send a message Grin

Cheeky fucker!

Squiz81 · 22/04/2020 12:16

I have no option to highlight OPs posts in the customise menu (see attached screenshot) I'm on my phone, but not the app. Does it only work if you are on the site on a computer??

StarlightLady · 22/04/2020 12:24

Forget about the neighbour being cheeky etc. What about if they are conducting illegal activity via the OP’s IP address? Who is likely to be under suspicion?

Jux · 22/04/2020 13:24

Squiz81, if you can't find it, or the option is nowhere to be found, you can find op's posts easily by using Find/Find on Page or whatever it is that your device allows. It took me ages to find how to do that on my Kindle, but on phone and laptop, using a browser, it's easy enough. I don't use the app, but there ought to be a way to do it there too (and if there really isn't, get onto Site Stuff and tell them!).

bruffin · 22/04/2020 13:42

SQUIZ81 You might have to set it up on the pc first, but i use the mobile site and have the OP highlighted, otherwise if you go to the bottom of the mobile site it gives you the option to switch to website and you should be able to change from there if you cant get to a PC

Howyiz · 22/04/2020 13:45

If you scroll to the end of the page on your phone, desktop is at the bottom. You can go into the desktop version change the setting and then revert to the mobile version.

On the mobile site, you need to touch the arrow opposite Talk and choose Customise from the drop down menu

Neighbours and my WIFI
bruffin · 22/04/2020 14:42

The customise on the mobile site doesnt give you the option to highlight posts RustBear

Castieldeansam · 22/04/2020 15:48

@Squiz81 download the Mumsnet app if you can, it highlights the OP posts for easy scan reading.

ProfessorSlocombe · 22/04/2020 16:14

For all the frothing about sharing WiFi, if you are a BT customer, you may already be doing it ...

www.bt.com/help/broadband/learn-about-broadband/bt-wi-fi/what-is-btwifi-with-fon-

Fon is the world’s first global wi-fi network and aims to give all its members access to wireless broadband wherever they are in the world. Since March 2009, all new BT Broadband customers are automatically members of the Fon community and agree to securely share a portion of their wi-fi bandwidth through a separate channel on their hub.

SharonasCorona · 22/04/2020 16:19

@ProfessorPollington that's irrelevant. The BT T&Cs cover this when you sign a contract for their broadband.

I doubt however that OP's contract includes a clause where she has to give her neighbour access to her broadband by giving her her Wifi password.

Squiz81 · 22/04/2020 16:20

Thanks @jux @Castieldeansam @bruffin I'll have a play around with it

SerenDippitty · 22/04/2020 17:02

Glad Jacob Rees Mogadishu caused some amusement!
