Neighbours and my WIFI

Hey!
Straight to point I got a new neighbour in my block of flat a few months ago and she asked for my wifi password to connect her console to so they could watch netflix.. i thought why not.. one other thing connected to it wont harm and she has just moved in.. it's her first home she hasn't had chance to set up her own yet. She then gets a new tv in the last few weeks and connects to my wifi but she has also connected her phone and her mates phone to it as well as they are picking up our google speakers on the network her mate joked they should play songs through my sons one in his room from their phones. So I have no idea how to change the password but would I be unreasonable to turn it off every night at 8PM? Considering we are in lockdown and she cant get her own during this time as they will need to come and connect it up. Previous tenant in that flat never had wifi either.

Change the password

DontTouchTheMoustache · 20/04/2020 19:35

OP, the solution has been mentioned loads of times in this thread already

Yes so has the fact that OP has already changed it 😂

Loreleigh · 20/04/2020 19:37

Tell them the new password is 'GoFYourselfYou PTakingTwat' - I wouldn't share WIFI or any security passwords, especially with a stranger, neighbour or not - even more scary is the thought they have ANY access to your kid. Tell the neighbour to go whistle and keep yourself, your system and your children safe.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 20/04/2020 19:42

Cancel the cheque indeed.

Tistheseason17 · 20/04/2020 19:44

Still no knock at the door, OP?

LetTheCabbagesDie · 20/04/2020 19:48

Have you considered CANCELLING THE CHEQUE! changing the password, OP? Smile

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 20/04/2020 19:49

The OP said way back that she changed the password!
Wish folk would RTFT!!!

Jack80 · 20/04/2020 20:19

Google how to change the password and if you cant then turn it off for now.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 20/04/2020 20:23

Don’t forget to change the password, OP. Wink Grin

FelipeFlop · 20/04/2020 20:29

Change the name of the WiFi to ‘5GCOVID19TEST_MAST’, too. That’ll soon put a stop to it.

Livingoncake · 20/04/2020 20:33

Come on, OP, surely she's come sniffing around for the new password by now? Update please!

Justus77 · 20/04/2020 20:35

Change the username to RTFT!!!!!!Grin

Fiveletters · 20/04/2020 20:35

Well done for changing the password! Surely she wouldn’t dare mention it!

Teddybear27 · 20/04/2020 20:47

As everyone else has said change your wifi asap, she could be downloading all sorts and she is taking the piss BIG time. If she asks you why it is not working, which she probably will as she was cheeky enough to ask the first time round, just say it is broken for now and don't do it again.....

Contact your provider and get the password changed etc if you're not sure how to do it. Simply tell her you have been cut off as you got a big bill due to high usage. Shes taking the pee and she knows it, she has no plans to set up her own broadband and why would she when muggins *you) is happily providing it free of charge. Stop being a door mat

Namechange4nowt45 · 20/04/2020 21:04

Sorry op I didn't have time to read through all the replys but well done go you! Honestly you did the right thing I hate seeing kind people getting taken advantage of. If she keeps asking what has happened just say you have been cut off , good luck!

I’d be sweetly nice about it and say I’m so sorry but you’re using up my broadband usage can you please get your own now as I’m having reception problems!

glennamy · 20/04/2020 21:16

More fool you... Just change the password!

FeckTheMagicDragon · 20/04/2020 21:20

If you don’t want too much of a confrontation just tell her you’ve reached your data limit and won’t be sharing it anymore as you need it yourself. Point her at the direct save website so she can get her own.

Imrubbishatuserables · 20/04/2020 21:22

Sorry for the late reply

Yes I have changed the password
It didnt have the longing details on the router just the password for the connection that's why I was asking for help

Sorry to disappoint everyone but surprisely she didnt come and ask why the wifi wasnt working too busy with having visitors by the sounds of it (walls are very thin)
When I turned it off before she knocked and asked me about something else then mentioned the wifi not working.. so I assumed the same might happen today

Change password AND change the name of your WiFi network. Then when they asked what happened just say your router is down/broken, so sorry.

They can easily get their own WiFi by using mobile data and using their phone as a hotspot, Smarty, Giff Gaff etc don't cost that much.

SharonasCorona · 20/04/2020 21:32

@buttermilkwaffles

SIGH. She already has. Do you really think you're the first to suggest this in 300 posts?
