DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

I wouldn't put worn clothes in the wardrobe or drawers with fresh clothes. It isn't about them being smelly, as I'd obviously be washing them if they were, it's just that they aren't fresh.

Exactly. They need airing

Foramen · 21/04/2020 09:45

Anything worn all day or at an evening shindig (remember them?) goes into the linen basket for washing. A shirt worn for a doctor's appointment only goes back in the wardrobe.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 09:46

They need airing

Surely they don’t get much airing lying in a chair and would be much better aired hanging in a wardrobe?

Costacoffeeplease · 21/04/2020 09:52

Hanging in a closed wardrobe up against clean clothes? Nope

M2B19 · 21/04/2020 10:00

If the clothes are smelly enough to contaminate the fresh clothes then arguably they’re not clean enough to wear again Hmm imo

WilburIsSomePig · 21/04/2020 10:00

I would never put it back in the wardrobe as I might mistake it for something clean then realise in a meeting that there’s a stain I didn’t notice (I don’t mind small stain for weekends/ would feel humiliated if this happened at work!)

Um, don't people wear clean clothes at the weekend?

Costacoffeeplease · 21/04/2020 10:06

They’re not ‘smelly’ but they’re not fresh either, I don’t get why this is so hard to understand?

viques · 21/04/2020 10:27

I wonder if the back in the wardrobers do the same with other things.

"I've only had a drink of water from this glass, no lipstick marks , so i'll pop it back in the cupboard"

"This plate had toast crumbs on it, luckily the marmalade didn't drip, so if I flick the crumbs off the plate will be good for another day."

Grin
TheFredericaQuartet · 21/04/2020 10:33

I cant believe that people think those of us who out worn clothes back in the wardrobe and putting smelly and sweaty ones in there. If the clothes are smelly they go in the wash ,not in a wardrobe or even on a chair

I reckon the chairdrobers put whiffy or stained clothes on the chair/floor and re-wear them. Whereas we have higher standards Smile

They’re not ‘smelly’ but they’re not fresh either

So put them in the wash. Not the chair.

"I've only had a drink of water from this glass, no lipstick marks , so i'll pop it back in the cupboard"

This isn't really a great analogy though is it - if you've used a glass, marks or not, it's dirty so you wouldn't use it again, you'd wash it.

I don't put clothes back in the wardrobe if they've been worn - I wash them so neither 'back in the wardrobe' or 'chair/bed/floor robe' is right IMO. Grin

This is such a weird thread.

"I've only had a drink of water from this glass, no lipstick marks , so i'll pop it back in the cupboard"

No because someone else might use the glass with my bacteria on the rim. No one else wears my clothes.

This plate had toast crumbs on it, luckily the marmalade didn't drip, so if I flick the crumbs off the plate will be good for another day.

Sometimes!

But it drew you in enough for you to deign to post Wink

@TheFredericaQuartet Wow ... I meant the thread in general, i.e. the responses. Not weird that you posted it in the first place. But, thanks for the snippy reply. Confused

bemusedmoose · 21/04/2020 10:43

As a mum clothes have 2 places - put away or laundry. If they are good enough to wear they are good enough to go away.

As a person - I have a chairdrobe and a floordrobe myself and especially at the moment when I really don't give a toss about what I wear I grab what ever is nearest. Actually - this lock down has really made me assess what we actually NEED in life and most of the stuff in my room will be going as soon as anywhere that will take it is available.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 10:44

Obviously not, I’d wash it.

I wouldn’t put it on a table or counter for an unspecified length of time to use later either.

Which is what the chairdrobers seem to be advocating.

LaurieMarlow · 21/04/2020 10:46

up against clean clothes?

Still don’t get this. If they’re clean enough to be worn, how are they dirty enough to ‘infect’ other clothes.

My mind is totally blown by this lack of logic.

TheFredericaQuartet · 21/04/2020 10:51

But, thanks for the snippy reply

It wasn't meant as snippy 😘

Yep, it was @TheFredericaQuartet. The use of a PA emoji doesn't alter that, don't be disingenuous. Anyway, I'll leave you to it.

dayslikethese1 · 21/04/2020 10:57

If a have a top that's borderline after a day of wear, I hang it on my wardrobe door to wear once more. I would however hang a skirt or jumper back up if still clean enough to be worn. Those things dont come into direct contact with any sweaty areas and are bulky so if I put them all somewhere to "air" I'd have clothes piled up everywhere.

dayslikethese1 · 21/04/2020 11:00

The person who said about plates; I use plates again if they've only had a piece of toast on for example. I might have another piece of toast on same plate later that day. I accept this may be gross and I wouldn't give a used plate to anyone else but it seems pointless washing it when it's just me.

TheFredericaQuartet · 21/04/2020 11:18

@WilburlsSomePig - I was being neither snippy nor disingenuous but you are incredibly prickly so maybe a light hearted thread like this isn't right for you.

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 21/04/2020 11:18

It’s completely unnecessary to wash everything after every wear - water consumption anyone? However, something that’s been worn is no longer clean, once it’s put in an enclosed space you will notice the minute particles of sweat or whatever. I’ll wear jeans for two days but put the top and knickers in the wash. Then I’ll wear the jeans again the next day, then they’ll go in the wash too. I don’t leave clothes out forever just for the next day generally. But they won’t go back in with properly clean clothes.

Strugglingtodomybest · 21/04/2020 11:27

Thanks OP, we haven't had a fun thread for ages, everyone takes everything so seriously.

Personally, I have a floordrobe, as does everyone else in the house. I'm encouraging my boys to graduate on to a chairdrobe but it's hard work and I suspect I'm just jealous of them for having room in their rooms for a chair.

spearly · 21/04/2020 11:57

What do you all do for items like suit or formal jackets that you can't machine wash? Obvs, not going to take to be dry cleaned every time worn. I try to put such items in a separate wardrobe, but just wondered what others do?
