DD says she needs a chairdrobe because it's gross to put worn clothes in the wardrobe

or into drawers. And I reply if they are clean enough to be worn again they should go in the wardrobe.

I might not practise what I preach but I am right. Aren't I?

I agree with your daughter.
Fresh clothes in the wardrobe, clean enough to wear again and likely to be worn in the next couple of days go on the chairdrobe.

hkebd · 19/04/2020 11:19

Personally I think clothes that have been worn before have to be worn the next day therefore are allowed to stay out over night. If not worn the next day then they go in the wash.

Can't have clothes in the wardrobe that have already been worn but might not get worn again for 2 weeks!

But that's just my opinion!

Wingingitsince2018 · 19/04/2020 11:21

The only thing I put back in drawers once worn is a jumper, if I have worn a long sleeved top underneath, in winter.

lemontreebird · 19/04/2020 11:21

Putting worn (sweaty) clothes back in the wardrobe is good for attracting moths, isn't it?

TheFlis12345 · 19/04/2020 11:22

There is an item of furniture specifically for this purpose! Look up valet stands.

QuestionableMouse · 19/04/2020 11:22

@lazylinguist

They might be clean but they'll probably smell of my perfume/deo and at this time of the year probably also have pollen all over them. I don't want any of those things on freshly laundered clothes.

chipsandpeas · 19/04/2020 11:22

im with your DD but i use my bannister rather than a chair

BogRollBOGOF · 19/04/2020 11:23

Chairdrobe is perfect.

Fresh clothes in the wardrobe/ drawers.
While many items are fine to rewear short term, it's not great to have them hanging up with clothes that get worn more occasionally.

8by8 · 19/04/2020 11:23

I agree with your daughter. I put things on a hook on the back of my door to air for a day or so before they go back into the wardrobe, but really I’d like an extra clothes rail it side the wardrobe.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/04/2020 11:24

I agree with your dd. My dd has a sofadrobe. Dh has a chairdrobe and not wanting to share it, I have a bannisterdrobe.

Grinchbinch · 19/04/2020 11:25

The solution to this is (as 8by8 just posted!) a small clothes rail where she can hang up things that are not quite fresh enough for the wardrobe. I know exactly what she means but hanging up also helps them air out.

EmeraldShamrock · 19/04/2020 11:25

I agree with your DD. I wouldn't get her a chair as it will build up. I'd hang a small pole so she can hang them up outside the wardrobe.

userabcname · 19/04/2020 11:26

I agree! But I now have a new wardrobe with a sort of shelf arrangement at the side so I've reserved one of them for worn clothes. I have always had a chairdrobe up til now though.

boredboss · 19/04/2020 11:27

I'm with your daughter... the solution in our house is we have a coat hook on the side of the wardrobe to hang any such items (on hangers)

Floralnomad · 19/04/2020 11:27

Your daughter is right .

GinDrinker00 · 19/04/2020 11:28

I’m with your DD. They don’t belong in the wardrobe if they’ve been worn.

PigInASlanket · 19/04/2020 11:28

I have the Ikea freestanding mirror with a hanging rail behind it. Can hang up stuff that would usually go on the floor, or if you're a really organised person (not me) tomorrow's outfit that you've already picked out.

ElloElloVera · 19/04/2020 11:28

DD has both a chairdrobe and also a ballet-barredrobe! As long as both are kept in reasonable order they don’t bother me that much.

mummykauli7 · 19/04/2020 11:28

I have a drawer that I use for this purpose. It's where I put the clothes I've worn but can wear again. The drawer is only for this so they can be away from fresh fresh clothes but not left out.

PigInASlanket · 19/04/2020 11:28

floor CHAIR! Blush

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 19/04/2020 11:28

I also have a floorobe @Soubriquet 🤣

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 19/04/2020 11:29

I think if you are keeping clothes longer than a day or two they are either clean enough to go back in the wardrobe or need a wash. Im not having a pile of half worn clothes sitting there, but will allow something to be kept for a day or two out.

I will put worn clothes in a wardrobe to be hung, and i would put skirts away but I wouldnt put worn clothes in draws. There are tiers of worn clothes.

Dp has a worn clothes draw. I think this is acceptable.

bluebell34567 · 19/04/2020 11:29

i agree with your dd. she is a clever girl.

Watertorture · 19/04/2020 11:29

I have a ladder (one of those ones you see in bathrooms with towels on them) for this purpose

HarlanWillYouStopNamingNuts · 19/04/2020 11:30

I agree with your daughter. Maybe get a clothes valet (a wooden one, obvs, not a person) though. Clothes left on chairs end up a bit icky because they don't get a chance to air.
